I ran for him at Emerald Valley Track Club for 7 years and at Sheldon High School for 4 years until a few months ago when I left for college.
This girl is 15 he is 40 im just wondering why anybody would defend him
or why anyone would think this 15 year old girl would be lyning
obviously you knew him for a long time but you were lucky enough to not see that side of him where he likes to control younger lady(s)
This is probably really hard for you and everybody that knew him
But how do you think this 15 year old is taking it?
Not being able to go to school comfortably , or have real friends, it must be hard being her right now.
no matter if she had went along with it , he should have never let it go that far, doesnt that make since?
CSSM--My heart just breaks for you. It really does. You are the age of several of my daughters and I know exactly how much they look up to some of their beloved teachers and coaches. They would be crestfallen, just as you are. You seem wise beyond your years, though.
Please do not feel as if you must divulge private information here on WS. Just telling us that you now believe the allegations is enough. We need to keep the focus on the fact that a young teen is hurting and a serious allegation has been made.

We'll have to wait and see what the Grand Jury rules and then watch as this plays out. No one can really know except Mr. Schacht and the girl. But we are bound by decency and our laws to listen to her and to investigate. Being that she's left the school, I have suspicions that there could be a pregnancy or a termination of a pregnancy. If that is so, she needs to be afforded privacy and space to make her choices. We need to remember that she's legally a child and must be protected.

TheTrut--Welcome. I agree with much of what you say. However, we, here on WS often hear from shocked family and friends. It is devastating to have your trust betrayed. Think about the first word out of someone's mouth when they hear of a shocking event or an untimely death......no!!!!!

Within a couple of days, he was totally cleared. The girl admitted that she'd made up the story and even the story itself didn't pan out. He's a wise man and NEVER closes his door with a single student in his office. Men and women who teach or coach have to learn to be cautious. This administrator suffered terribly for those few days and I'm sure still winces when he remembers the allegation.
I tell this story because as strongly as I fight for children who have been sexually abused, I also know that there can be false allegations. Children and teens who do this, are struggling and the allegation is usually a cry for help in some fashion. The truth always has a way of coming out.

with the way kids - and adults for that matter - bully these days, it's no surprise the student left school...people are too mean!

she completly trusted him and look what happened to her he took advantage of that.
Like i said you obviously havent seen that side of him and i hope nobody else will have to go through what this 15 year old is going through ,because im sure the pain she is feeling is something you cant understand unless it has happened to you.
Pizzaman--I have to agree with Texas Mist. We, here on WS are not required to assume innocence. This is a forum on which to discuss criminal cases. We all have our theories and our life experiences which we bring to the board. You'll note that most of us try very hard to remember to use the word "alleged" when discussing the accused.

Missizzy- So am I to understand that it is the habit of this forum to convict a person without the benefit of knowing any of the facts in the case? WOW!!
Thank God our forefathers had the intelligence to put in place a system that does not allow a person to be persecuted based merely on gossip, rumor, or innuendo! I understand that you are predisposed to believe all people are guilty if they are charged, given that you and your family have been victims in the past. I get that. But is that right? It was not then when our system of justice was set up, and it is not now. Having said that, do I know that our system is less than perfect. Of course I do. We have all heard of guilty people set free on some technicality or other. We also have heard of innocent people convicted only to find out later that they actually did not do the crime. They system is not perfect, but it is certainly better than the alternative of trying people in the court of public opinion. That is trial by vigilante. And we all know that vigilanties get it wrong as often as they get it right.
You state, "I highly doubt it in this case, given the facts that have been presented". Again I ask, what facts? If you have an actual fact beyond rumor or conjecture, by all means, please share it. Here are the only facts that have been thus far presented: 1. Mr. Schacht has been accused. 2. Mr. Schacht has been arrested, charged, and arraigned. 3. Bail was sent and Mr. Schacht paid the bail and was released pending trial. I have scoured all media sources as well as all forums and everything else I coud find out on the web. I have yet to find any other actual fact other than the 3 I have listed. Again, if you know of another fact, please, I beg you to share it.

No. We have no authority to convict anyone. Only a judge and/or jury can do that.
We, therefore, have no obligation to presume innocence. If you read here long enough you will find that our members are some of the most fair-minded and diverse on the web. There are always some who want to wait for all of the evidence in court, some who believe the victim without anything further, and a LOT in between. Our discussion is what makes this interesting and educational. Otherwise you are just sitting around waiting for a trial - why bother discussing it?
Also, you will find that the forum is largely supportive of LE (law enforcement) and the judicial system. While there are times when mistakes are made or there is a rush to judgment, we often trust that LE didn't arrest someone on a whim, and that the judge did not set such high bail without evidence, even if we didn't get to see it all. Sometimes our radar goes up when LE acts in an unusual way, but generally they get the benefit of the doubt.
Sometimes we are wrong. Luckily, our opinions have no legal influence. Cases where we are wrong are merely a learning experience and a reminder not to judge too quickly. These cases are not forgotten or swept under the rug - no, in fact they are brought up over and over again as we weigh our thoughts and feelings. (for a good example, see the discussion on the Kyron Horman thread about polygraphs and hiring a lawyer)
I can imagine that it would be hard to read here if you are personally involved. We speculate about some tragic and horrific possibilities. Sadly, our speculation sometimes turns out to be true. Please know that these posts are in the spirit of a search for truth and justice, and not prurient interest.

Pizzaman--If you will check upthread, you will note that I've brought up the issue of checks and balances and the very real (but rare) issue of false allegations. The very fact that Mr. Schacht was arrested tells me that evidence was uncovered during the investigation. Otherwise, there would be no arrest warrant.
If you also noted my statement above, I have been through this process myself, in the state of Oregon, with eight of our children. Many of my children rushed to the defense of their rapist. My husband and I did NOT want to believe the disclosures. Our entire life was turned upside down. We have 14 children and chose to parent 11 of them. I chose to be a child advocate. But we did NOT choose to parent a family of tremendously hurting children. Our children had no choice either. The young man who raped them gave us no choice in the matter.
Because of the actions of one young man who preyed on vulnerable children, we have lived through almost 12 years of hell--the videotaped disclosures, the examinations, the 11 months long investigation, an 11 months long order of silence in our home and school concerning the rapes, the eight day trial, the convictions, the appeal, the Supreme Court affirmation, the Post Conviction Relief Trial, the forced re-depositions of the victims 9 years after the rapes, an appeal of the Post Conviction Relief Trial, the denial of clemency by the governor. The disclosures came in April 1998. The man was released from incarceration in June 2009. It was a long long haul. We have no recourse. We just have to pick up the pieces and keep going.
All in all, every child within our family forever changed, even the siblings who were not raped. We endured at least 30 very lethal suicide attempts and multiple mental health hospitalizations--including two extended stays at the old State Hospital in Salem.
I've stood with my children and the Attorney General as we helped change the law with Crime Victims United concerning the compulsion of victims to testify at Post Relief Trials. Every single holiday, special event, birth, and death in our family over the last 12 years has been effected by the actions of what one human being chose to do to a group of children--our eight and at least two others. I have trudged along this path for 12 years!! I have dedicated my life to keeping children safe and helping them heal when they have been harmed. Instead of being able to enjoy typical childhood and teen activities, our family has been compelled to participate in almost non-stop involvement with the after-effects of sexual abuse. It has been an uphill battle to maintain joy and vibrancy and stability in our home.
Our children are now young adults and not one word of their "story" has ever changed. In fact, as they've matured, they've been far more able to understand what some of the brutal and humiliating acts committed against them were all about and to report more details of the assaults. The irony? They looked up to this young man. He was their friend. On the day he was arrested, they wanted to know how long he'd be gone as they wanted him to play with them. They felt horrible guilt and fear for telling on him. He threatened them that he would kill them and/or rape their older sisters and me if they disclosed. The gun they were threatened with was presented in court. He also tortured their pets and we lost one precious kitty to a vicious sexual assault and the loss of another male kitty's tail--as a warning to the boys concerning what would happen to them if they told. They were forced to watch as he sexually tortured chickens and bunnies and were told that he would do the same to them.
I came to WS in an attempt to help others understand, process, and move on from childhood sexual abuse. I also have a very strong drive to educate the general public about the heinous crimes of pedophilia, sexual assault against teens, child pornography, and child trafficking. I want my experiences to be a guiding light for others. I want parents to be aware, to learn how to listen and to watch. I want to keep our children and teens safe.

MissIzzy— Thank you for sharing your history. My heart goes out to you and your family. I can only imagine the devastating effects of what your family has had to endure. I must say again though, people are rushing to judgment without the benefit of knowing any of the facts in the case.
When Mr. Schacht was arraigned, he did not have a lawyer present. The reason he did not enter a plea is that absent a defense council, he would not be permitted to enter a plea. Also, at an arraignment, the judge is not presented any evidence whatsoever. It is not permitted especially in absence of defense council. He listens to the charges and the bail is set based on those charges, not on their validity as Angelmom suggests. Again, no evidence is presented as to the guilt or innocence of the person in question. To say that his bail has any bearing on his guilt or innocence is totally incorrect. It is wrong and it is indeed a rush to judgment. It is looking at this case with the “glass half empty” mind set. I choose not to do that, even though I have every reason in the world to do so. You see, I too am living through extreme adversity. Yet I am choosing to look at life and people with the “glass half full” mindset
About a year and a half ago now, I was gravely ill and in the hospital. I had several IV’s running filled with massive amounts of medication. I was also orally taking massive amounts of medication. I had oxygen on me. I had to have a feeding tube. I was diagnosed with an incurable disease that will eventually take my life. Upon receiving that diagnosis, I could have simply taken out the IV’s, stopped taking the medications, pulled out the feeding tube, turned off the oxygen, rolled over and went to sleep and awaited death. Since I was already 90% of the way there, it would only have been a matter of a day or two and I would have been dead. But instead of that, I chose to fight. I summoned up the last remaining ounce of strength I had left and fought. I managed to hold on, and to at least partially recover. It was then that I changed my mindset and started to look at life with “glass half full” eyes. I will believe in life, and in people until such time it is PROVEN that they are undeserving of that belief. With the remaining time I have left on this earth (and with the grace of God and assistance of some world class physicians, I will have at least a few good years left)I will continue to do so That is why I choose to believe in Mr. Schacht’s innocence until such time as it is PROVEN that he does not deserve it. Please do not misunderstand me. If it is proven that Mr. Schacht is indeed guilty, then I will have the same mindset that another commentator had on a different forum – cut his balls off! In fact I will lead the charge and gladly supply the rusty, dirty, jagged and dull knife to perform the castration with – without of course the benefit of anesthesia!

Respectfully, I'm not sure that you honestly grasp the power of WS or the backstories herein. I cannot fault you for that. Pizzaman, I believe in life and positive thinking and never giving up hope. I delight in innocence and goodness. I also happen to be terminally ill but that isn't an issue here. The issue here is that WS is all about picking up the pieces and moving on with dignity. We are victim and family friendly and we do not have to assume the innocence of those arrested. The fact that Mr. Schacht was arrested and charged is enough for me today. If I am wrong, you can be certain that I will post an update.

I wish no ill will on the man who brutally raped my babies--ages 6-12. None at all. I just wanted him to get treatment and never hurt another child. I wish no ill will on Mr. Schacht. I just want him to keep his hands off young children if he's found to have to have touched them.

I am one myself & it is not within me to *not* believe a victim. I like to think I'm of the "glass half full" philosophy to life, but always, always, I'm on guard for those who would do harm. It's what survivors do.

If my posts have offended anyone, I apologize. It is not and was not my intent. Perhaps in my zeal to defend ALL peoples rights (in this case, Mr. Schachts as well as the girl in question) I did indeed allow myself to get off point. Again, I apologize for that transgression.
I believe that all people have rights, especially victims. So who is the victim in this case? If the allegations are true, then the victim is the girl in question. If that is determined by an even handed examination of the facts (most likely in a court of law), then I hope and pray she will get the love, support and professional help that she will need in order to deal with the aftermath of such a malicious, and horrendous crime committed against her. If the allegations are proven by the facts to be false, she will still need love, support, and professional help in order to understand and deal with that fact as well.
But what if the allegations are proven to be false? If, after the even handed examination of the facts (again most likely in a court of law) it turns out that the allegations are false, then Mr. Schacht is the victim of malicious persecution. If that turns out to be the case, then I again hope and pray he gets the love, support, and professional help he will need. The problem is that it is unlikely he will get that support beyond his family and a few close friends. His life will be forever altered regardless if he is found innocent or guilty. Please consider this: Mr. Schacht has devoted his entire adult life to teaching and coaching the youth. Even if he is found innocent, he will never again be a teacher or a coach. No school or program will hire him. Most employers will do a background check on any candidate for a job of any consequence. The allegation will show up. Speaking as someone who has hired many, many, many people in the past, they would never take the chance on this individual. They may not say this is the reason they did not hire him, but it will indeed be the case. There are always many candidates to choose from for a position. They simply would not take the chance on him. If the allegations are proven to be false, the mental, emotional, and financial effects on Mr. Schacht will be devastating. And there will be little if any recourse for Mr. Schacht.
I am saddened to say that whichever way this case turns out; two lives today lie in ruins. The family and friends of both of the individuals in this case are also deeply saddened and are grieving. Their lives are also forever altered. My prayers go out to all.
If my posts have offended anyone, I apologize. It is not and was not my intent. Perhaps in my zeal to defend ALL peoples rights (in this case, Mr. Schachts as well as the girl in question) I did indeed allow myself to get off point. Again, I apologize for that transgression.
I believe that all people have rights, especially victims. So who is the victim in this case? If the allegations are true, then the victim is the girl in question. If that is determined by an even handed examination of the facts (most likely in a court of law), then I hope and pray she will get the love, support and professional help that she will need in order to deal with the aftermath of such a malicious, and horrendous crime committed against her. If the allegations are proven by the facts to be false, she will still need love, support, and professional help in order to understand and deal with that fact as well.
But what if the allegations are proven to be false? If, after the even handed examination of the facts (again most likely in a court of law) it turns out that the allegations are false, then Mr. Schacht is the victim of malicious persecution. If that turns out to be the case, then I again hope and pray he gets the love, support, and professional help he will need. The problem is that it is unlikely he will get that support beyond his family and a few close friends. His life will be forever altered regardless if he is found innocent or guilty. Please consider this: Mr. Schacht has devoted his entire adult life to teaching and coaching the youth. Even if he is found innocent, he will never again be a teacher or a coach. No school or program will hire him. Most employers will do a background check on any candidate for a job of any consequence. The allegation will show up. Speaking as someone who has hired many, many, many people in the past, they would never take the chance on this individual. They may not say this is the reason they did not hire him, but it will indeed be the case. There are always many candidates to choose from for a position. They simply would not take the chance on him. If the allegations are proven to be false, the mental, emotional, and financial effects on Mr. Schacht will be devastating. And there will be little if any recourse for Mr. Schacht.
I am saddened to say that whichever way this case turns out; two lives today lie in ruins. The family and friends of both of the individuals in this case are also deeply saddened and are grieving. Their lives are also forever altered. My prayers go out to all.

CSSM--Thank you for bringing this to our attention. I check each morning and hadn't seen it. How tremendously sad for all involved. I admire the victim and her family and friends for attending. That takes courage. I also have to say that the young women who were interviewed are very wise. I wish we'd been wrong, as several posters insisted. I really do.

I'm sorry but I can't keep my mouth shut. Chad Schacht has pleaded guilty to seven counts of sexual abuse of a child. He has upended a young girl's life. Who knows how many other victims are out there? I fully understand that Schacht had a "way" with kids and especially young female athletes. IMO, all that wonderful work was negated the split second he decided to sexually abuse a child--and especially a child where there was the issue of authority. All the good work went right out the window.
IMO, the children and students who have enjoyed Mr. Schacht's teaching and guidance over the years need to be led to understand that his "goodness" was a sham. He was a wolf in sheep's clothing. Nothing he did which was "good" can really be accepted as good for good's sake. Their positive memories can surely be validated but they need to be reminded how even seemingly nice people can make horrible choices and mistakes. Maybe the greatest lesson Mr. Schacht will ever teach is the story of his own fall from grace.
