The family of a 25-year-old Oregon woman is searching frantically for Cheyanne Dawn Clement. The vehicle, a 1979 white Datsun pickup with a shell, that she and her boyfriend were driving was impounded from the Hooker Creek onramp near the south end of the Avenue of the Giants just a few days ago.

The couple had bought the pickup in July but hadn’t transferred ownership. The previous owner was notified by law enforcement of the impound and thus the family has broadened their search to Humboldt County, California.

Kathy Clement, her mother said that the last time they can confirm she was seen was July 10 by her brother. Her mother, who has Cheyanne’s daughter living with her is very worried. “Its been a month now since she has seen her kid…She hasn’t even posted on Facebook in a month. That is not like her.”

Cheyanne is 5’2, 130 pounds and is 25 years old.

If you have any information, please contact the La Grande Police Department at (541) 963-1017 and refer to case number 19-0773.

Missing Oregon Woman’s Vehicle Found Near Avenue of the Giants – Redheaded Blackbelt

Cheyanne's FB (states that she is from Sacramento, CA, but lives in La Grande, OR.

It's not very clear where Cheyanne was last seen and where was she living at the time of her disappearance? Oregon or California? Also very concerning that a month went by already since she went missing.

It’s sad that on her current FB page she posts frequently and no one comments. She seems bitter and fed up in some of her posts. :(

Appears he is missing also. His pic and name are on her up to date fb page. Posted by someone else. He has not posted on his FB account since June 30th, either.

I’m not sure he’s officially been reported missing, so I don’t think we can post stuff about him.

OT—I hope you had a good time in Humboldt, Knox. We haven’t been back for a few years and are due to visit some old friends still living there.

I’m a former resident of Southern Humboldt County, the area where the vehicle was found. We’ve been gone 35 years, but I keep up on local news. It was a dangerous place in 1984 when we left and it’s more dangerous now. There is an entire forum on WS that was devoted to crime in the Emerald Triangle.
The Emerald Triangle

Many people come from out of the area to work on pot farms. They are called “Trimmigrants” because during the harvest they are hired to trim the buds to get them ready for market. This article is about Covelo in bordering northern Mendocino county, but the same applies in Garberville in southern Humboldt.
The ‘Green Dimension’: Inside the Lives of California’s Marijuana Trimmers

It’s possible that Cheyanne and her boyfriend are out in the boonies trimming at an illegal grow. (The legal growers mostly hire locals.) There are multiple harvests from indoor grows, so there is summer trimming. They would have been taken to the grow by the grower (and not allowed to know where they were going) and would have had to leave their vehicle behind. Cell service is minimal, and it’s doubtful they would be allowed to make phone calls anyway. The news doesn’t say whether their possessions were still in the vehicle, but if not, they might have taken stuff with them IF they are trimming.

LE will investigate, but there is only so much they can do. It’s a vast area and LE is stretched thin. There is a minimally staffed Sheriff’s substation in Garberville. Commenters on Kim Kemp’s excellent website would have us believe that LE is stupid, does nothing except bust illegal pot grows, and won’t look for the missing. Justified or not, there is contempt for LE, especially by those engaged in illegal activities and those who don’t understand the concept of what is required to get a search warrant. LE cannot go on private property looking for missing people, and would be risking their lives to do so.

As some commenters mentioned, the family hiring a PI is a good idea. I hope Cheyanne and her bf are happily trimming and will return at some point. The alternative isn’t good.

From the previously cited NYT article, despite the danger, the money for trimming is good.

This year, Ms. Tamaura and her boyfriend were trimming together, sleeping in a shipping container the grower uses to hang drying marijuana. Sure, they wake up with rashes and have to trek to the river every few days to bathe, but the accommodations are better than the meat locker she said she slept in during a previous trim job.

Ms. Tamaura said she loves trimming in Covelo, where she can earn thousands of dollars a season and has met young people from as far away as Ethiopia.

“It’s a magical little stop for the universe,” she said.
