I really do agree with you, and @Auntie Cipation. I think in the past few years she was doing 2 things - trying to get him to marry her, and planning his murder. I know it seems unlikely, but stranger things have happened. Does she have anyone on her side to vouch for "what a lovely person" she is - sister, niece, friend? If not, that's pretty telling IMO.
No one seems to offer any personal information about her, and defense isn't planning to call many witnesses. There is a pretty good picture of DB as a person, but none about NB.
I guess because of what NB did and how shocking it was, everyone in their life can conclude they didn't really know anything about her.
I've tried to research NB's past, but came up empty. She had a prior marriage (?).

I also wonder whether NB didn't escalate into a murderous frame of mind when DB's son and DB started to spend a lot of time together and really enjoy each other. Since NB and DB weren't married, the son would be an obvious heir, and NB could potentially get nothing.

Also, the prosecutor asked DB's son why NB went to deal with her brother's estate, when every single member of NB's family except NB are attorneys. Why NB? That doesn't make sense. Anyway, that factoid got squeezed in as a question in the direct of Nathaniel.
So, was it fiction that NB left soon after the murder to "take care of her brother's estate"? Maybe she just wanted to get out of town? More to your point @Kemug where are all these siblings who are attorneys? No one's here in court for her? Presumably, media would have identified if she had anyone there for her.

Thanks. I wondered about this.
Susbstitute: Delayed again [for COVID (strike through)] because defense isn't prepared. ;)

The civil case against NB could get interesting, too. Nathaniel (DB's son) filed it. Testimony in that might fill in some of these gaps.

Yes Rick, exactly! Where are all the siblings, other family and friends? Why aren't they there? Because they all believe she's guilty? And where is her past? - you can't get to her age without a lot of history. Even former friends, workmates, neighbours, etc, etc. It really mystifies me.

She has those mystery writers supporting her (and there may be more coming), but I think part of her appeal was DB's cooking. On the stand, her writer friends were making me salivate over the food descriptions.
Was Crampton maybe the name of her former husband, and that's why we can't get Google info on her?
Or, did NB grab the name Crampton from a favorite thriller writer?

I tell ya, she was trying to live a fictional life. Made it all up. Just like her books.

My research brought me serendipitously to a totally unrelated podcast called SheDunnit. Great name, huh? I'm almost embarrassed to report that I might have read at least 80% of the mystery novels discussed.
Now, I'll have something to explore while we wait for this trial to continue.
I wonder if NB will take the stand, and what fiction she might burble on. She is a burble-y type. In fact, I'm thinking this is what allowed her to stay under the radar. IMO she's actually gaslighting. She'll say something outrageous and follow it up with, "How silly of me" or "I'm joking" or "I didn't mean that". For example, 3 days after killing DB, she called the lead detective and asked if she could have a letter from LE verifying she wasn't a suspect. She has a lengthy and elaborate "How silly of me to ask". They played the tape in court (Day 2?). I'll try to find it.
All NB's writings on line (I refuse to look at her books) are flip: funny not funny.
Flip will play very poorly in court IMO.

FWIW that I can find, there is little evidence that NB actually wrote much at all. Except for one, her risqué novelettes were 2015, and self-published. Typos and all. She had written some treatise or other on writing technique before then, but no sign of actual writing. Only talking about it.

NB's life as fiction: she took the name Brophy, even though she wasn't married to him.

The Brophy trial is back live as of this moment. I guess I'll have to listen to this insufferable defense attorney.

Hmmm. NB has changed her hairstyle for the day. Prolly that snarky comment about how her prison hair looked better than the tiff-up her nosy "stylist" did. So, yeah, today, no curls: prison do.

Has anyone noticed how NB looks like a different person in every photo, or even several times we've seen her in court? Reminds me of Arias, with that chameleon look.

Does anyone know what crimes NB is said to have committed during incarceration? All the details on this were suppressed at the time NB requested to be released to a B&B because of COVID..

Bombshell tonight....
Oh, gosh, per prosecutor statement today, NB blabbed to her bunkie that she was inches away from DB when she shot him. They got this witness while defense stalled the trial (aka was suffering from COVID). Bwahaha!
The bunkie told 2 attorneys at the time, so there is concurrent corroboration, notes, etc.

Morning session, Day 13 is live right now (look at maybe an hour into it; I can't rewind it right at the moment).

Nothing has been said about how the fire happened that caused a lot of the interior to be renovated. I wonder if NB had something to do with it....

These defense witnesses are a mess. They haven't been prepared, either. This is torture.

5/3/22 Tuesday, Trial Day 13: Judge went over motions. Defense’s motion for judgment of acquittal-denied. State’s Motion to exclude hearsay. Will hold a 104 hearing before Linda Smith testifies (not today). Defense’s motion to bring texts into evidence. 3 years of text messages (300 plus pages). Judge will not allow 3 years of texts as they might be hearsay which the State objects to. Will rule later on the texts; specific texts on relavence. Defense’s motion to admit statements under 8033 & lay opinion. Defense’s motion to admit previous testimony of Shwna Massengale who is gravely ill. State doesn’t want whole transcript. Will stipulate on what will be admitted. Will rule on later. Defense’s motion to compel an informant’s info. State’s rebuttal witness. This is regarding a jail mate of Brophy’s. Will rule later once State gets more info from other agencies. Defense motion to exempt other acts (re fire in home to collect insurance). State says they never accused Brophy of starting fire. Also for other acts that Brophy was executor of her brother’s estate in Texas. State says it was for financial motive & won’t bring it up. Lost one juror to personal reasons.
Defense witness: James Denny, retired from landscaping.

Did you hear NB gasp out loud when the prosecutor said that? Oops.
