I would really love to find out so much more about Nancy, from people who knew her at every stage of her life. I doubt if we will ever hear the truth from her. Best friends? Old boyfriends? Teachers? Did she really attend the University of Houston? It's pretty hard to get into. Did Dan actually believe they were married, but she hadn't sent in the paperwork? Did that benefit her in some way? If Nancy ever writes an absolutely truthful autobiography, I for one will be queuing up to buy it. She might finally have a best-seller! OTOH, it would probably just be more lies

My long note above notwithstanding, I'd love to know more about NB's past, just not by her telling. I REALLY want the court-related documents unsealed. I want ghosts from her past to appear and tell ALL.

The other point I wanted to make....It's very possible NB only had any friends because she was coupled with a chef who went out of his way to make people treats. Even her "writer friends" couldn't stop talking about how great Dan was and how magical his culinary treats. They especially spoke to his ability to make a separate menu for each of them that catered to their unique food intolerances.

I thought this was well done, except for a few key details.

--NB was not a writer, except in her imagination. She self-published all her books, and they mostly happened in the space of a year (2015 or so, IIRC). When the prosecutor asked her in cross when she had ACTUALLY published anything, she said in 2005 she had an essay in an anthology (of someone else's) published. That's it!
--NB and DB weren't married for most of the relationship. They got married shortly before the murder. The whole marriage schtick was a lie.
--It was students who found DB in his last moments, not an instructor
--Lester Holt missed that the accountant used by defense actually had her projections wrong and had to correct them later (see rebuttal via prosecution's financial analyst). NB and DB were going to run out of money in 2018, even per the Defense accountant's revised figures.
--Lester Holt had incorrect figures on the amount of insurance NB was due, when he cited $800k. He didn't add in workers' comp and the "wrongful death in course of employment" rider.
--Lester Holt said NB abandoned her catering business because it was too physically demanding. Per NB herself on the stand, it was all "managing, planning, hiring chefs". There's no physical component, and she said on the stand it went under because of 9/11. Indeed, she told everyone she was going to open a sandwich shop shortly after the catering business went under. She borrowed money from her in-laws to do so (never paid it back, but instead went to Thailand or somewhere on vacation).
Long story short, NB did almost nothing to contribute income (she even said her SS was much lower than DB's because she was "self-employed" (no matter that even when you're self-employed you pay into SS and you don't stiff your employees pay and SS, as she did, per Nathan). NB had what Nathan (in victim statements) called a "sedentary lifestyle". She did squat.

*Restitution Hearing (@ 1:30pm PT) – OR - Daniel Craig Brophy (63) (June 2, 2018, Portland) – *Nancy Lee Crampton-Brophy (68/now 72) “wife” arrested (9/5/18), charged (9/6/18) & arraigned (9/17/18) with felony murder & unlawful use of a weapon. Plead not guilty. Held without bond. Bond was denied (4/29/20).
Trial began on 3/14/22 with jury selection & ended 3/18/22. Trial began on 4/4/22 (expected to last to 5/20/22, but will go longer). Prosecutors rested their case on 4/21/22. 6/13/22 Update: Brophy was sentenced Monday to life in prison. Crampton Brophy, who turns 72 on Thursday, will be eligible to pursue parole in 25 years under the sentence handed down by Multnomah County Circuit Judge Christopher A. Ramras.
Restitution hearing on 8/12/22.
6/13/22 Update: Prosecutors said they have evidence showing Crampton Brophy has engaged in ongoing criminal behavior while in custody.” In a court hearing Monday, Multnomah County prosecutors told the judge they believe Cramption Brophy is possibly being visited by individuals that are assisting her in that ongoing criminal behavior. The state should have every right & ability to know who is visiting Crampton-Brophy for that fact. Her lawyers asked the judge to seal her jail visitor log. The judge listened to the arguments and will make a ruling within 2 weeks.

Yes, very obvious jealousy was a motive. Overstreet brought this up in trial and made NB squirm. IMO the murder was in the pipeline for years, fueled by jealousy.
In general, NB drips jealousy. You can see this in how cruel and lacking in empathy she is about the student who performed CPR on her dying husband. Morning of second cross day, KGW videos.

She always wanted a retirement condo, and murdered for it, but for some reason, now that she got what she always wanted, she looks to be in quite a state.

Her new residence even has 24/7 security and reception. I mean, what's not to like? Plus, she gets another 25 years of not having to cook a meal for herself. That, plus the 24 years DB cooked for her, will be 49. I call that very spoiled. Of course, NB might have to work for it, but then, you gotta make a living at some point in this lifetime, so now that she's 72, it's a pretty good time to start. I hope they make her take care of the prison chickens. Karma.

I knew Dan years ago when I was living in OR. I was a student of his, and spent one spring break working with him on his property. He wanted to create and “edible landscape”. Each afternoon, his wife would make us lunch and we would sit and eat together. It’s crazy to think that the same woman who I sat and dined with every day for a week would be capable of something so terrible. Dan was such an incredible man. He was an inspiration to me and I am a better human for having him in my life.

From my notes - she was charged with felony murder - which I take as 1st degree, no? But I think the Judge gave the jury an option of 2nd degree murder. Which she was found guilty of.

Being in prison is the only way she can afford housing. This makes me sad for many poor souls in jail, but I’m thrilled NB scored this grand opportunity for condo living.

I have found the comeuppance in this trial to be delightful. IMO The prosecution case was also spellbinding.

Yes, it was quite the trial. People are watching it over and over on YT even after all these months, and not really understanding the compulsion to watch. Witnesses for the prosecution spoke from their souls; that includes family, LE, students, acquaintances, car valets, cooks, neighbors….
There was also a situation where defense was reacting to YT comments in real time (see KGW) anywhere from hairdo eyerolls, to witness attitude on the stand, to NB’s aggressive behavior at the defense table…. Lol the time NB showed up in a bun, identical to the man-bun a pros witness was wearing; it didn’t last past the next break!

Plus, commenters were very respectful to each other…very unusual in a non-moderated forum.

After a while, prosecutors also got a clue about how to use KGW and comments in real time as well.

If you want to watch, I recommend the KGW coverage. It is easy to find stuff.

Incidentally, family didn’t want the trial televised, like at all, but at the end left a lengthy and touching comment on KGW coverage about how much support from the KGW commenters really helped them. They hadn’t anticipated that.

Wow. Thank you so much Rickshaw Fan!! So interesting (makes me shudder tho reading that) the diff between the 2. And now I don’t have to rack my brain trying to figure out why?!? It sounds like you’ve watched the trial too. I’m currently watching this in a loop, over & over, especially NB’s testimony (cross for sure but I also like the direct). She’s got a really funny sense of humor (almost 100% inappropriate for the setting) and I can see where her friends and family couldn’t believe it when she was arrested. Anyway Dan Brophy sounds like such an amazing man and it’s absolutely tragic what happened to him. Especially by her, who when she called Dan’s cell the name that popped up on his phone was “the love of my life”. Heartbreaking.
