OR - David 'Dave' Lewis, 46, Ashland, 4 September 2008

Thanks for the interest in this cold case. Websleuthing takes a lot of work, and we know DOJ can still make arrests ! Holding those accountable who did this and /or have remained accomplices by nonadmission. Those who have refused to assist law enforcement or prosecutors, e think are sick souled. Disturbed.

When Dave was killed, there were a lot of boots-on-the-ground. Over 1000 photos and many interviews. Dave’s last days were retraced. Have tried to websleuth here the facts and truth.

#18196 was completely arsoned ( after Dave’s murder and bodyburning )
It was first call-in, but second fire set ( we believe from arson specialist.)
The awesome fire chief from the Green Springs is on record. He saw a truck fleeing on Hyatt Lake access road.

# 18196 is Keno Access corner ( to creepy critter quarry ) and elsewhere.

We do not know the location of Dave’s actual death…his vehicles were not in their usual park-spots, he had been out early that evening…

Welcome to Websleuths and to Ashland @deerlybeloved from a fellow Ashland resident. 😊 These are excellent questions. I wish I had answers rather than opinions.

Thank you for your diligent reading of the thread. Due to Websleuths rules, some questions cannot be answered, such as #2, 4, 5 and 6, that name people who have not been publicly labeled “persons of interest” (POI) by law enforcement (LE). That prevents Websleuths from becoming a rumor mill. Even “verified insiders” must abide by this.

I agree with you that someone unfamiliar with the property could not have murdered Dave. That narrows the possibilities quite a bit IMO.

Please advise who is a person-of-interest, named publicly by Law Enforcement.

Wondering how you concluded only those questions could not be answered ?

Please remember we know as insider's there is a link with Troy Carney's murder and it was much closer to Dave's time of death, than originally released. That was released under xsheriff Mike Winters' investigation.

Thank you so much for your interest in Dave's cold case. Nearly 20 years !

Good Afternoon @Sleuth2010! Can you expand on how the family knows definitively that Dave was at 18196 Dead Indian Memorial Road the night of his death? After going back through the entirety of this thread, I couldn't locate where it was explained how this is known. Thanks in advance!

I hope everyone on the thread has a wonderful day!l

Hello and thanks again for you insightful questions.

There are witnesses who were at the meeting
#18196 that evening.

A group gathered there. Several people. Investors, developers, locals.

It is very near where RN and LN have a 4th of July tent campout. Behind their locked ( or unlocked gates) every year.
One can see 18196 Keno Cabin from there.

On the night of the meeting, there were also cameras.

Thank you again.

I didn’t say there was a publicly named POI. There isn’t one. I said that answering the questions I listed would name people who had NOT been named by LE as POI. Therefore, those questions could not be answered on Websleuths, as I understand the rules. We can’t just bring people’s names into the case that may or may not have any connection to Dave’s murder. At least those were my instructions from a mod back in 2013 when I wrote a post that she deleted about Stephanie Warner’s boyfriend Lennie Ames before he had been named a POI (now a suspect).

Perhaps as an insider you have more freedom, but personally I would check with a mod to make sure before answering those questions. Websleuths does have to protect itself from lawsuits, after all. Quite honestly, if I were one of the people named on this thread as possibly being connected to Dave and/or his murder, you’d better believe Tricia would have heard from my attorney by now! But I’m always happy to be corrected by a mod. 😊 JMO, MOO, IMO

I didn’t mention Troy Carney, so is there a particular reason why you mentioned him in connection with my post?

Always hoping for Dave’s murderer(s) to be brought to justice so his family can have peace. Yes, it’s been way too long! 💜

We are trying to have arrests made in this horrible case. Many sleuths are from Southern Oregon and know the area. There are a lot of people Dave was involved with, what matters is: what was happening the last two years of his life? What had changed? Who was he involved with? Where was he spending time?

Dave’s sister and Brother were out of state. And have been cleared. Both heavily grieve his death. Thinking about Sycophants who can burn a body.

We don’t find anyone wrongfully named… any names present are specifically allowed to be;
Xsheriff, Troy Carney, David…

Quite honestly, if I were one of the people named on this thread as possibly being connected to Dave and/or his murder,

Have a new arson report to share, later next month.

@Sleuth2010 wrote:
The first fire that the Greensrings Fire Department ( all volunteer at that time) put-out, was a vacation / weekend homestead, owned by a Lewis. They also lost their entire home. Fires were attempted to be started in another small outbuilding there…which didn’t burn. It is referred to as the Keno Cabin, the roads intersection. The firefighters saw a truck speeding back toward Hyatt Lake, in a truck, marked with the campground aka “Park model RV resorts” logo.

Do you know if the 911 calls to the two fires were recorded and if they are publicly available information? Have there ever been public interviews with any of the Greensprings volunteer fire fighters who responded to these calls? Do we know who the passerby was that made the 2:35 am call reporting the Keno cabin fire? 🔥
Are there any public interviews or documentation of the report of seeing a truck with park logos "speeding back towards Hyatt Lake"
Could the park truck have been the one who called in the fire at 18196 DIMR?
If you know, can you tell us approximately where and what time the truck was seen? (Edited by me)
Dave and his son had been threatened on Labor Day at Hyatt Lake, by BMcN. Another man from California who co-owned the campgrounds was a witness. His grandkids also were present. BMcN just went ballistic according to their statements…
Do you know which son was with their dad at the lake that Labor Day? Was it the eldest, middle or youngest? Was that Monday 9/1/2008?
Do you know what BMcN said specifically?
Within 72 hours, the meeting happened. Then the murder and multiple arson.

Everyone had left the area and town, and had Slurpee receipts to prove so.
How would Troy's murder be connected in this scenario, was he killed that same night or had he already been killed? Again, trying to sort out the timeline, thanks for your help here.
McN and Plantee’ were also trying to swing another illegal park-model-RV park at Lily Glen with a proposed 100 year lease, with Jackson County. The county was sketch in some departments. LUBA overruled them.
Lily Glen is now leased by Jackson County as a park and horse campground, do you know 💯 Dave was aware of these plans to install more park models?
The meeting was nearby at the Lindsay Barn / ranch. BMcN and his wife JPltee^ were involved in “ a deal “ to buy the place…for a horse ranch.

About 6 to 8 men gathered that night of the 3rd of September 2008. “
Did you know if the McN's ultimately bought this horse ranch? In another post you said that the men were "investors, developers and locals" Do you know the reason for this meeting and who called it? You said Dave was definitely at 18196, was he also at the Lindsay Ranch meeting? Do you know if there was any drama or anything specific that happened at that meeting?
Dave was positively at Howard Prairie that evening. He bought beer, ate oysters, and flirted with the cute gal who was preparing the dinner party for the staff’s end of year bash.
Wait, I thought his last meal was a hamburger and tots, "really bad local food", am I mistaken or did he go somewhere after Howard Prairie Resort and the oysters and beer?
Just trying to understand Dave's timeline on Wednesday 9/3/2008
When Dave’s body was found, Troy Carney’s was found the same day.

There is a link between the two men. Their timelines of death were much closer than originally thought.
What is your understanding of when Troy's death occurred? You have referenced him being in the mountains, possibly at Hyatt Lake, what has led you to this conclusion?
There is a $20,000.00 REWARD for information
Who is the contact for this reward?
Have there been any tips that have furthered this investigation or led to more inquiries? What is the best tip that has come in, in your opinion?

All questions are asked as respectfully as possible and in good faith
The more detailed the information provided, the more likely that it can be solved and it helps all of us to understand the case and what else may have come to light in the last 17 years of researching your brother's case.

There is a direct link between Dave Lewis' murder and Troy Carney ( truck lumper) traveling from the east coast, arriving in Medford where he was a former resident and had been married there.

Good comprehensive article.

This was Dave's woodstove after they murdered and arsoned his cabin.

Who did this ?? There are REWARDS and this crime needs to be solved.

Dave Lewis should be cutting firewood for winter.

If you or anyone you know, has any bit of information, it may solve the case.

Please notify any law enforcement. Killers should not go free

We want arrests made in this horrible case. No matter who they are. Some sleuths are from Southern Oregon and know the area. There are a lot of people Dave was involved with, what matters is: what was happening the last two years of his life? What had changed? Who was he involved with? Where was he spending time?

Thinking about sickophants who can burn a body. Abuse of a corpse.

We don’t find anyone wrongfully named… any names present are specifically allowed to be:
XxXsheriff Michael S. Winters, Troy Carney, David…

Photos of the destruction David Lewis’ cabin.

David E. Lewis, 46, was found dead Sept. 4 in the burned remains of a cabin he had rented for decades on Dead Indian Memorial Road. An autopsy confirmed that he was killed before the fire was set with accelerants, detectives said.

Investigators suspect someone who knew Lewis had ventured up the long driveway to his secluded mountaintop cabin, then had come inside and killed him. Detectives aren't disclosing how Lewis died. They also note that the total destruction of the cabin has eliminated much evidence.

Lewis was a longtime area resident, known for protecting the land and helping neighbors, his family said.

"We've talked to a lot of people," investigators said, listing friends, family, neighbors, people Lewis did work for, teens partying at a nearby quarry and bow hunters stopped in the area the night before Lewis' death.

"There's no business deal or personal relationship gone bad that we can see," detectives said. "There's no clear motive."

Detective Ben Defazio honored for 25 years of service.
For all those who cared for David Lewis after the days and weeks, of this heinous crime, thank you. Abuse of a corpse is an evil thing. Gratitude to those who stood-up to this murder.
