I can't believe he hasn't been found by now. And I can't find anything even close to recent updates.... kinda strange. I wonder if he has no close family. :sigh:

I wish LE would give an update even if there's nothing new. I'm pretty sure there is family, but families sometimes don't go public if they think the worst has happened. Not saying it has, but that could explain the silence.

Bumping for Harold. Where is he?

Still wondering why Harold hasn’t been found and what’s happening with a search. Do they think he left the area? His poor family!

Thanks! I missed that. I’m sure they must have checked the ponds on his property as well as Bear Creek. I guess we can hope he’s somewhere safe and being cared for.

It's really hard to imagine what could have happened to him. I hope he's safe.

A little nostalgia from his racing days - I think he deserves it.

In 1956 Harold drove in nine NASCAR Grand National races with six Top 10 finishes (inlcuding a 7th at Redwood Acres), only once finishing worst than he qualified due to a bearing failure in Portland, the only race he was not still running in at the end. In 1957 he raced in four GN races but was plagued by car trouble and a crash, and only finished running in Eureka. In sixteen Grand National races he had eight Top Tens which included five Top Five finishes.

Just so very sad...

During the investigation, detectives said they learned Hardesty had dementia and showed signs of declining mental health shortly before his disappearance. He also made efforts to obtain a firearm.Family members reportedly share the same conclusion as detectives: Hardesty is deceased. Based on the evidence, investigators believe Hardesty took his own life in or near Bear Creek.
A memorial service is being planned for Hardesty by his family.

But if he left on foot, he shouldn't be too far. Why haven't they found his body?

I would guess his body is in the creek. Since they didn't start looking for him for two days, his body could have traveled many miles.

But if he gets easily disoriented he couldn't have gone far. Is the creek near his house?

The City of Ashland will buy Harold’s property for the wastewater treatment plant for wetlands. It will be like a park. His neighbor says he’s been waiting decades for something like this to happen. I can vouch for that personally. When I applied for a job with the neighbor in the early ‘90’s he was talking wetlands back then (not necessarily on Harold’s property however). I hope the old gas station on the property will be preserved somewhere.

So sad to hear this, so they’re declaring him deceased without a body? And in a creek? It must be quite deep, more like a river ? Oh well...

It is very sad. His obituary was just published.

Another article last month:

The creek is not particularly wide, but it was fast and deep last year when Harold disappeared. I’m still suspicious of the masses of blackberry bushes. It would be easy to fall into them and be unable to get out.
