The U.S. Coast Guard on Tuesday afternoon released video of law enforcement officers locating and detaining Jessica Smith, the 40-year-old mother accused of killing her 2-year-old daughter and severely wounding her 13-year-old daughter in a Cannon Beach resort hotel room last week.

Sorry, I don't believe a word she says. She killed her two year old and tried to kill her other child. This wasn't her protecting them. Even if everything she stated in her restraining order was true, it wasn't justification for what she did. Let's stop being sympathetic to this monster.

The one where she's smiling makes me feel ill. How could anyone smile or look at peace when they killed their 2 year old and seriously injured their teenager? This woman was an evil shrew.

The family of Greg Smith, the brother of Jessica Smith of Goldendale, Washington, released this statement Sunday night on behalf of his family. His sister was arrested in the Cannon Beach slaying of 2-year-old Isabella Smith, her daughter:

"We are extremely grateful for the outpouring of sympathy and support from Cannon Beach and the surrounding communities. We would also like to thank all the law enforcement agencies for their tireless efforts. Special thanks is given to the caregivers and other support individuals for their empathy and skilled care of our whole family.

"Our family is working through a very difficult time, and we would request that our privacy be respected. If, in the future, any member of the family wishes to speak with media, we will reach out directly or through police officials.

Okay so I looked at the divorce records and it shows GS as her ex husband. So why is GS reported to be her brother and spokesperson for the family? WTH? I really don't get this.

I read the linked document pdfs.
So ....mom claimed she and daughters were terrified of dad's physical and mental abuse
and wanted ct to order dad stay at least 10 miles away from her home.

Then mom was so protective of the girls, that she killed one and tried to kill the other.

In reading the financial information in the filing (debts, reoccurring monthly bills), I was struck by how little they spend per month vs. his monthly income. Were they stockpiling a crap ton of cash every month?
She was driving a 2007 Suburban, and not even a single credit card, very admirable.
