I suspect the 1978 date is wrong. Multiple records on Ancestry give the missing date as 1975 with a declaration of death in 1982 after the usual 7 years. His last surviving sibling died in 2020 and his son in 2019. Some records suggest a second child survives. He was born in Missouri on 25 November 1932.
