Found Deceased OR - Joshua McCoy, 5, Autism, goes by "Josh" or "Joshie", may not respond, missing when mom woke up frm nap at 5:30pm, Stage Rd, Hauser, 10 Nov 2024

RSBM
To me this statement does not necessarily mean that he hadn’t been trying, it might mean that he was unsuccessful in getting in touch- maybe he didn’t even try- I don’t know… moo
agreed could be either of the two. Also it doesn't specify if that means since Josh was reported missing or if it indicates a longer period of the two not speaking.

re carrying Josh - I presume they conducted some preliminary investigation, but if the body was in such a difficult location, they likely had to move Joshie to examine the area as well as the body fully. It's likely evidence (if any) was collected prior to moving him. They may also have wrapped him in something to preserve evidence and mitigate any risk not just to the investigation, but also to LE directly for health and safety.

re terrain - if it was "nasty" for searchers, we can presume it was also bad for any bad actor(s) involved. I will say, children of that age are so good at getting to places that an adult can't, so I wouldn't assume Josh incapable of this.

Also I'd imagine photos were taken prior to moving him ?
:(

Haven’t seen audio or transcript of the 911 call - but IIRC mom reported him missing, and made the call
McCoy had been missing since the late evening of Saturday, Nov. 9. He was reported to North Coos dispatch via a third party at 6:27 p.m. First responders arrived on scene at 6:45 p.m.
Confused by the bolded, as the mother wouldn't be a third party, would she? IMO.

No, but she easily could have asked a neighbor or friend/relative to make the call, so as not to have to waste her own time that could be spent actively looking for him or whatever other urgent things she could be doing to find him. (IDK of anything other than actively looking for him that would be more urgent than calling 911 herself, because thankfully, never had this happen. But 911 calls can seem to take awhile, esp. under those awful circumstances.)

If it turns out she had any part in this though, she may have had other reasons for having someone else call.

Ok thanks, I’d missed the third party part

I presume his mom reported him missing but the articles have even been vague about that IMO, no clue if intentional or not.

Most read that Joshua was reported missing and then they go on to say something like his mother told authorities she went to sleep with him and woke to find him missing or such.

I am anxious to get more info but while the investigation is ongoing I fully expect zero clarification on these and other questions.

If they remains were not an intact recently deceased person, there might not be a cause of death- or if an accident with visible trauma but no tox screen yet still might withhold COD - moo

Reposting because I just reread it- earlier in the thread there was some discussion about a delay in reporting.., per article…

"Joshua was reported missing after sundown on Nov. 9. The Coos County Sheriff’s Office promptly dispatched a Deputy to conduct an initial assessment," CCSO stated. "Local teams began searching the surrounding areas, and their efforts intensified on the morning of Nov. 10…

“I don’t think it was reported until later that evening after dark. We started [Saturday] around 11:30 until the sun came up. They were out there searching and they did a pretty comprehensive gray pattern search [Sunday],” he said…”
They begin searching near midnight!!!

yes, mom said she woke around 5:30, and dark falls in that area around 5 pm right now and recent reports have said it was 6:27pm that he was reported missing, so there doesn't seem to have been the lengthy delay some thought there was initially due to vague reporting on that topic. Although there was SOME delay IMO

per this report:

He was reported to North Coos dispatch via a third party at 6:27 p.m. First responders arrived on the scene at 6:45 p.m.
Body of missing 5-year-old Oregon boy found days after being reported missing

If that is correct nearly an hour was the time between mom's reported time of awakening to discover Josh gone to it being called in to dispatch. This article also specifies they began searching for him on the property upon their arrival at 6:45pm:

Several Deputies began a search of the property while investigating the allegations of McCoy being picked up by a known family member, which was later found not to be factual, according to the Sheriff's Office. An ‘Attempt To Locate’ (ATL) was sent out to all surrounding agencies.

I think they arrived, searched house and property, while also trying to vet the allegation that a family member had removed him from the property (mom alleging dad took him? perhaps). Once that was debunked they called in search teams who began searching far and wide beyond the property he lived on. Sounds like the deputy or deputies who did the initial response and assessment did begin searching on arrival but an organized mass search didn't begin until hours later. JMO

Ok thanks- that makes sense

I looked at the property records and I think the house sits on 6.7 acres. So it was probably pretty difficult to search especially in the dark. Maybe they could have expanded the search to outside the property sooner but I don't know if it would have mattered considering he ended up being found far beyond the anticipated search area for a little guy to have walked.

Thank you for that information!
