The sheriff’s office said they have found “some clues” so far during the search, though “nothing definitive.”

This statement is pretty vague, of course my mind goes towards the worst possible thing. But trying remain victim friendly.

Joshua still missing at the 48 hour mark, in this kind of weather is very concerning. Is there water in the area?

I would think that Crocs, flip flops or slip ons would be easy for many children to manage… moo
True, but he was an autistic 5 yo, which means he might not have mastered putting his own shoes on. Sure, all autistic children aren't the same, but there's a better chance he didn't put his own shoes on (if he really left on his own) due to his autism, vs a normal kid of 5 years.

Also...

Why is it Hard for Autistic Children to Keep Their Shoes On?

Before we jump into tips for helping your child manage their shoes, it’s important to understand why it’s difficult for children on the autistic spectrum to keep them on. There are several reasons why an autistic child might be reluctant to wear shoes, and it could boil down to one or more contributing factors.
  • Sensory Issues – A common reason for disliking shoes boils down to sensory issues. Sensory processing disorder is often associated with autism, and it causes hypersensitivity to certain materials and elements, such as shoes and socks. Children with autism may be sensitive to how socks and shoes feel on their feet, making it difficult for them to cope while wearing them.
  • Stress – Stressful situations, such as learning how to tie shoelaces, may increase their unwillingness to wear shoes. For many autistic children who have delays in fine motor skills, a task such as putting on shoes becomes stressful, triggering meltdowns, outbursts, and disinterest in wearing shoes at all.

Absolutely! Sensory issues are a big deal even for kiddos who aren’t on the spectrum- just don’t know enough about this sweet little guy- moo

Yes, the pond that was drained, and another man-made pond a 14 minute walk south. I doubt he could make it to the lake a little less than 1/2 mile West, or the river a little less than a mile south.

Looks like a little more info is tricking in. However, both could have been before he went missing IMO.

The searchers did find a footprint near the house.

and....

Sheriff Gabe Fabrizio says discarded wrappers and more were located in the area where Joshua James McCoy was last seen.

HAUSER, Ore. – <modsnip: copyright>
MORE AT LINK…

At about 4 p.m., search teams called off their efforts temporarily due to weather including high winds. Search and rescue teams plan to resume their efforts to find Joshua on November 13. The Coos County Sheriff's Office has planned a release of information in the near future.

If what mom says is true, I'd think he'd either be barefoot or wearing socks since he was put down for a nap and "gone when she woke up 4.5 hrs later". Either that or he knows how to put on his shoes. JMO
Could he have been sleeping in his underwear and no clothes? I doubt a child in cooler temps would go far unclothed.
Whatever happened, happened during a time he was not fully dressed or mom would have given a clothing description.
Imo. That could be bedtime, bath time or nap time.

I also find it unusual that LE hasn't asked the public to search their own property and out buildings in case Josh took cover or hid from the elements somewhere. IME that is SOP in most small child wandered off missing cases.
Unsure if they asked people to search their properties or not, but ~100 helped search today.

Nearly 100 people went out to look for McCoy Tuesday

Although....

law enforcement is asking the public to avoid the area while it's being investigated. Fabrizio says the reason why is because it will make the search more difficult and could destroy the evidence

Many hunters out this time of year, I wonder if any trail cams are set up. Could be helpful. With 3 days in cool temps he would most likely be on the ground hiding and trying to keep warm. MOO.

Article said it provided no fruitful data.

1.5 miles is certainly a walkable distance

Not the outcome we wanted, hoping now for no foulplay.

JMO
I am speculating that it was hypothermia. Too cold that many nights. Still do not understand why no description of clothes.

I wonder if there was a signal where he was or was he capable of making a call? Maybe he only used the cell phone for games? MOO.

I would imagine he had an old cell phone with only WiFi, but that's just a guess based on personal experience.

Gotcha! I was not sure about cell towers in the area.
