GUILTY OR - Kelsey McCune for kidnap, rape of 13yo girl, Oregon City, 2013

If you scroll through that whole photo album, it appears to be a photo journal of a trip to buy fireworks from stands at a native American reservation in Skagit County, Washington, which is north of Seattle. The photo is posed, and two other men are also shown, one of whom also has the same last name as KM (brother? cousin?). The later photos show them taking apart some devices and making their own bottle rockets and blowing up eggplants and watermelons. There's kind of a jokey tone to the captions for the photos and I got the impression that his pose for that photo was intentionally made to look like a doofus who loses fingers to a fireworks device. (could that be how he lost his eye in years prior?). There are more photos of him on the subsequent pages of the album. Also a short video.

Because it's from ten years ago, I wonder if he lived in that area at one time. It would be a long way to drive from the Portland area just to buy fireworks, when all they would have to do is cross the river into Vancouver, Washington to buy them from one of the legal stands.
I wonder if this possible relative of KM's would help LE and S.'s parents locate her and KM? I certainly hope so!

I am still wondering, too, how KM lost his eye...

fireworks?

Fights?

altercations during attempted other abductions?

???

If he's shaved his head and still has the facial hair, he could be going for the look of Walter White, the main character in the tv series Breaking Bad (about a high school science teacher turned meth-cooker extraordinaire). If you look at her instagram page, she has done a drawing of Walter (3rd row from the top, far right photo). She also seems to be a fan of The Walking Dead, a tv series based around an apocalyptic zombie outbreak, as there are several references to killing zombies ("double-tap"), and a drawing of Daryl Dixon, one of the main characters of that show (4th row, first picture).

I'm getting the impression KM may have lured her away from her family on some premise of playing a make-believe game of zombie hunting and survivalist living. Not sure how Breaking Bad fits in, unless this guy is a meth user/cooker.

Interesting ideas, La Louve...

and ones worth considering...

I, too, noticed the illustrations of the breaking Bad Characters on her SM...

Hmmmm...

Please do not post about random people you find on social networking sites. We do not sleuth random people. (I understand the reasoning for doing so, and it's FANTASTIC if you find something and report it, but please do not post about it here.) And this isn't just directed at one person, but the whole group should be aware. :) It's one thing to say, "I was looking at the page and saw a friend lived here. I'll report it." But it's entirely different to say, "The friend with the initials ___ lives ___ and maybe he has heard from him because ___ and ___ were in that photo album too." I understand that initials were used, but it's one small step from sleuthing McCune's friends to his family members or his friends family members.

I hope that makes sense. There's always a bit of confusing regarding social media things, so I hope that helps clear things up a bit.

Also, social networking pages may only be linked if they are directly related to a case, i.e. the victim or suspect. We don't want to post to someone's mother, brother, employer, milkman, or postal carrier just because they know the main player. We also NEVER link to minor's pages (unless they are the victim). And be sure that the page actually belongs to the person being discussed. Do not link to someone if you are not 100% sure it is the correct person. And if a social networking is set to private and you get in the back way, you may not post what you find. Private means private!

I do not believe there has to be any specific "illusion" about the whole thing (i.e. that it is an adventure, that it is likened to tv shows she enjoys, etc). When I was 13, sadly, low self esteem and a lack of fitting in with my peers had me gladly romanticizing male attention -- I would have been especially smitten by an older, more mature male who is likely to suggest he understands more than young classmates, etc. I am lucky no one tried to take adventage of it (or perhaps just lucky that texting, etc. had not caught on yet). I am certainly not trying to diminish the situation, just adding my .02 about any convincing or manipulating (beyond totally taking advantage of her age) that may have been necessary to convince her to accompany him.

She is a very pretty young girl, and perhaps not fully aware of what that "means" when it comes to male attention.

Sorry about that.

I received an amber alert the other day and thought it would be from this case but it wasn't. Why is there no amber alert? I guess it is because there is no known vehicle involved?

I wish we had some more information. I'd like to know what kind of jacket S. is likely wearing, or a description of her other clothes, if they are known.

Also, has anyone found a profile (from the side) picture of McCune?

I asked a similar question. What I got out of it is that even if she went willingly, that man has no legal guardianship over her, and her parents didn't consent on him taking her. So that would be considered kidnapping, even if she didn't resist or went willingly. A minor isn't able to consent to anything without parent consent with another adult. Am I wrong with that statement?

Minors consent to things all the time. Not having legal guardianship or the parents' consent to take her is precisely the definition of custodial interference. Kidnapping requires that it be against the will of the person taken. Of course, a child could be young enough that they don't have the capacity to consent. For example, a baby or a toddler obviously can't consent to being willingly taken by some stranger. But when you are talking about a teenager, at least as Oregon law is defined, unless he took her against HER will, it's not kidnapping. At least, not as I read those statutes.

I think the one thing about the transcript - camping doesn't necessary mean they will be in a campsite or a rv park. There are millions of places to just camp without a site or camp host or anything like that just on random old log roads. So camping can mean a lot of different things in Oregon, not just the traditional camping of a campsite and camp host. And even camping as a homeless person they might just camp in random non-populated areas in cities.

Or even like the last link, at truck stops or rest areas.

I'm glad that you cleared that up. But let me ask you this....so what would be the difference betwixt abduction and kidnapping? Or is there one?

I hope that it's okay to post this, but according to the Facebook page set up for S., this case has now been classified as a kidnapping. I'm curious as to why it's been changed?

Abduction isn't really a legal term.
