Portland Public Schools spokesman Matt Shelby said two teachers saw Kyron with his stepmother and thought the two left school together. He said it was common for parents to pick up kids this way, so no suspicions were raised.

They thought his step mom picked him up?

I wonder if this was at the south entrance?

Does anyone know if Kyron has previously wandered away - either deliberately or b/c of daydreaming and not paying attention? I haven't read anything here about this.

"Moulton doubts Kyron wandered off on his own. It's just not in his character, she said.

"He's a little bit dreamy. He's a sweet kid. He gets distracted. He's your typical second-grader," she said.

But he's no Huckleberry Finn.

"He's not real adventurous," she said. "He's a little timid. But if a friend wanted to go outside and look at something, he would follow the friend. He has a friend who he regularly gets in trouble with in the classroom because he talks too much."

Moulton said Kyron will not even venture far from his home in a wooded area.

"He won't get out of sight of the house," she said. "He's pretty insecure about that. So I can't see him wandering off."

Yes, I believe that LE confirmed that the picture of Kyron next to his science project was taken that morning at school, and also that he was seen there at 9:00 am, but they wouldn't say where and by whom.

Hi :)

Do you have the link to where the Police confirmed the picture was taken the morning Kyron disappeared? I THOUGHT the guy said they couldnt confirm that or no comment ( One or the other lol).

respectfully snipped. 50 pounds is a little less than the 50th percentile for a boy just over 7.5 years of age like Kyron is.

link to the growth chart. you may have to click on it to make it large enough to read.

boys growth chart two to twenty years of age

Ok, trying to understnad that chart.

My son is 7, born in October. He is 53" tall and is 94lbs.

I try to follow the chart and it takes me to a different age group?

My apologies CharlestonGal. I saw that after hitting the post button and since have been re-reading through every single news article referenced at your link (by the way, TY, that's a great link! (http://newsfeedresearcher.com/data/articles_n24/schools-kyron-portland.html) I am now beginning to understand some decrepancies in the school's accounts that morning, but before I post on that I want to have the exact quotes, date quoted, and the actual article links to include in my post.

I wonder if two teachers did see the step mom and kyron around 9:00? at the south entrance and they thought he left with her.Sorry.I'm just thinking out loud?

In regards to the two teachers who thought Kyron left with his SM I think it is important to remember that thinking he left with her and seeing him leave with her are two totally different things. If they saw Kyron and his SM together in the morning and then he wasn't at school it might be their assumption, based on past experience (and statistics/probability), that logically he must have left with her (because I am sure they wouldn't immediately assume he wandered off or was abducted.) Does that make sense? (My mind is a little wackadoo from trying to keep up!)

I know that wooded area looks immense on photos, but does anyone know how many miles there are of woods/forest in any one direction before a road or highway intersects? If he walks due north for instance, how many miles would he have to walk before coming out of that area? In fact, do we know how many square miles of uninhabitated forest is actually in the area near the school?
Some of the land immediately adjacent to the school is not in Forest Park, but this will give you an idea of how big an area it is. IE huge.

"Forest Park now includes over 5,100 wooded acres making it the largest, forested natural area within city limits in the United States."

What about dogs? Surely, they must have been involved in the search. Have I missed some info?

It's been raining. Wouldn't there be footprints or perhaps a fragment of Kyron's clothing on something? Strange that nothing like this has been reported.

Wonder if LE has followed up on all the volunteers that helped clean up Skyline Elem and this "underutilized storage area"

Sunset Presbyterian volunteers number 1,600 for wide-reaching Sunday cleanup
Published: Tuesday, May 25, 2010, 6:53 AM Updated: Tuesday, May 25, 2010, 7:16 AM

Ben Keefer, principal of Skyline Elementary School, where volunteers did landscaping projects, painted, cleaned out an underutilized storage area, broke apart unwieldy items for the trash and installed new benches, said this in his weekly bulletin:

Notice the date on that article: May 25, 2010. Interesting no?

It is interesting, but I would hope the school was 100% cleared. I am sure it was.

I didn't mean that the storage area was involved......just wondering about the volunteers......that's all

Okay, need more coffee. LOL. I think he was lured by someone he was at least familiar with, so a volunteer at the school very well could be involved.

Not that it makes a huge difference, but it's almost impossible to walk in a straight line unless you're trained to do so. One leg is stronger than the other, and eventually you end up walking in a circle - albeit a very large one.

Well, I see your point, but there are often natural "paths" through areas like this that animals follow so I'm sure he'd stay on a path rather than enter highly rugged terrain. This could have pushed him miles a day in any of a number of different directions. The good point of these animal paths, though, is that if he did in deed follow these, they usually navigate around areas of water and food.

All of those 45% who said it is getting too much coverage would feel very differently if it were their child missing.
It could be frustration that OTHER cases don't receive much, if any, coverage and there are families who would truly desire the media in their lives to help find their missing child.

It is not right that certain children appear not to be as important as others.

This is my opinion and thoughts on why the poll may read that way.
