Question here. Has anyone ever heard of any previous missing children's cases where a LE officer was assigned to the home of the missing parents? I'm new to WS in that I have only followed a few cases here, Tori Stafford and currently Susan Powell, though I have glanced a bit at a few others, but not intensely. Even in thinking of other local cases throughout the years where I have lived, I don't recall ever hearing of such a thing. I am curious if this is something new for missing children's cases (if so, but only in Kyron's home town or state),? DOes it vary by state? jurisdiction? Anyone know?

p.s. I am NOT making any accusations towards the stepmom - I want to make that clear. Like everyone else, I am completely stumped on this one.
I also find this very unusual. I don't know if this is standard ops for this police department, or the state of Oregon, or if this a special circumstance for this family; for whatever reason.

My opinion

wow, so there are stairs right past his classroom?
maybe SM thought he was going in and he wandered downstairs?

Does anyone know where Kyron had the picture of him taken with the Christmas sign? I saw that LE is searching a pumpkin patch but on Sauvie Island, but I also saw one called Plumper Pumpkin Patch and Tree Farm. It looks like the place Kyron had his picture taken. I looked at the web site it is a really cool place, maybe for field trips for the kids.....

I saw many things on google about the boyscouts going to the pumpkin patch on Sauvie

In any other case.... this would make me go uh oh, that can't be good. In this one... I have no clue. :waitasec: It could just be the festivities going on at the moment, though KPTV.com is not covering those live online.

I think if they are only doing one press conference a day it should be afternoon. So perhaps they decided to do that.

we have 2 contradictory statements about Kyron.

1. A child who says that the sub asked the regular teacher where Kyron was. The teacher answered that he was getting a drink of water or whatever.

2. A comment in a news article that said SM had an appt (with Kyron?)

Both cannot be true. Is either true?

Being a former teacher, it is so hard to fathom that a teacher wouldn't check up on the whereabouts of a child, especially on a day as crazy as that one must have been.

Not casting blame on anyone. Just flummoxed.
this may help the first part, but I need to see the article that quotes someone detailing the appt information.

snip Tanner says Kyron was in school for at least an hour Friday morning and that he saw Kyron's step-mother leave the school without Kyron.

snip Upon hearing the substitute teacher noticing that Kyron was not present in the classroom, Pumala says the regular teacher said Kyron had probably gone to get a drink of water or to use the bathroom.

 Now there's a thought - places that Kyron's class may have gone on field trips?

That Plumper Patch place looks like it's very near Skyline too.

ETA: WHY ARE THEY searching a pumpkin patch on the island anyway? :waitasec:

Yes, happens often. :) Most recently with Somer. Hope that helps.
Emma, you say this happens often. Since it isn't mentioned when we read about and hear news stories about crimes, I'm curious how you're aware of this; if you don't mind my asking. I do remember LE being around Somer's house a lot, but never heard that that any officer was actually staying round the clock, or even all day, every day, with Diena and her family.

Thanks in advance.

Some one mentioned this on the scanner thread.I don't know if this is what they were talking about. But I did find this interesting.Where is this?near the school?

http://northeastportland.katu.com/content/death-investigation-under-way-after-body-found-rocky-butte
Again, looking at the map (link in my sig) you can see that this is not near the school. Rocky Butte (NE 92nd) is significantly far from the Kyron sites.

I have seen them with dogs, I suspect they are search dogs. Do they also use cadaver dogs along with the search dogs?
That question was posed in one of the last 2 PCs; "no comment".

Great link pdx! I was trying to figure out how to answer that question. I am going for a hike lower down in Forest Park today, will keep my eyes peeled for any clues!
Well aren't you ambitious today! Can't blame you.. finally, a glorious weather day. I'm not sure how I'd feel about going into the park today.. or out to Sauvie (and I have an urgent need out there from my favorite nursery!).

I'm trying to catch up on the missing pet deal.. anyone want to throw me a link or just say if it was debunked/not?
ETA--the only external reference I've found to it is in a comment on an oregonlive.com story.

I could be wrong, but it looks like the windows in the classrooms are rather high and that the shades are closed to a large extent. This video shows Kyron's classroom and the one next door through a connecting door. Maybe since the chairs are up on the desk it's just that shades are pulled at the end of the day. If, however, any of you also think the windows are sort of high, maybe it's hard to see someone on the ground or getting into a car when you're sitting. I'd like to check this out better, but I had to post it when I saw it.

Another thought --- if Kyron was proud of his science project, is it possible that others doing reptile or amphibian projects were envious and pulled a prank on Kyron that went wrong? LE said they were done interviewing all students. Maybe they finally got part of the true story or someone encouraging him to go on a "wild goose chase" or something?

OMG, that slide show was sad! His was the only project left there and that empty desk just got to me.

I saw many things on google about the boyscouts going to the pumpkin patch on Sauvie

I wondered why they picked that place instead of the Plumper Pumpkin Patch and Tree Farm as it is next to the school almost. I just wondered if the school ever took the kids there? It has animals and looks like games and things for the kids to do. They even have a Santa there for kids at Christmas.

Decided to post this picture by itself because it is the first time I have seen where Kyron's classroom was in relation to the stairs.

Oh, I have no idea... and they probably have a bunch of different boyscout groups throughout the area? Depending on where people live.

Now this picture gives me pause... it is a small hallway, looks like he had a short distance to go and a busy day with all the activities going on. There had to be others in the hall with him, but we don't hear about that. So if he was heading down to that door; it is possible that someone coming up those stairs ask him for help with a box or two, someone he knew well enough to go with. Just a thought.

I believe other posters have said that comment has been removed from the comments section of the paper. It is only a rumor and in my mind's eye, it's as much of a rumor as the child saying that the teacher said that he was getting a drink of water.

I believe it has been stated that the teacher marked him absent at some point.

If she said that he was getting a drink of water or going to the bathroom, why would she mark him absent.

I am just bringing this up as none of it makes sense to me.

I think the school has lawyer-ed up as well.

I AM NOT implying anything about anyone.

Just when something doesn't add up, there is a reason. I am wondering what the reason is.

As a grandmother , this greatly concerns me. I would like to know so that I can tell my superintendent that there has to be some school policies addressed where I live, because I can see something like this happening.

ETA: WHY ARE THEY searching a pumpkin patch on the island anyway? :waitasec:

Is that confirmed? That they are searching the Pumpkin Patch on Sauvie?
There are 2 major one, but only one with that name.
I'd appreciate some background for that, please.

They stayed with Somer Thompsons family.Somers mother and family were not involved in Somers disappearance or death.
We don't know what happened to Somer or who killed her. I also don't remember one story stating that the police lived with the family while the investigation went on.

my thoughts on this.

Maybe Kyron, intent on not remaining at school without his SM, circled around trying to get to the parking lot and get into SM's car before she left? Think of the possibilities that could have occured if he did manage to get into her car without her knowledge.

I might entertain this... except I do not think there is a chance in he!! that Terri left that car unlocked. Not a chance.

I so hope the trunk of her car has been checked!

Her work out bag/equipment goes in her trunk. There is video of her opening it on Wednesday, I believe it was. She has looked in her trunk. I don't know if law enforcement has looked there.

Does anyone know if Kyron has previously wandered away - either deliberately or b/c of daydreaming and not paying attention? I haven't read anything here about this.

Step Grandma "dreamy" but not wandering. Law enforcement says "I can't comment on that."

Step Grandma was not at the Science fair, so yes anything she says about that day she got from someone else. She lives some distance away, I am unsure how far.

OK, I know this has been asked and not answered, as with so may other questions, but did all of the other kids take their projects home on that Friday? I don't know when that photo was taken showing the room empty. If so, how WAS he supposed to get his project home?
