Emma, you say this happens often. Since it isn't mentioned when we read about and hear news stories about crimes, I'm curious how you're aware of this; if you don't mind my asking. I do remember LE being around Somer's house a lot, but never heard that that any officer was actually staying round the clock, or even all day, every day, with Diena and her family.

Thanks in advance.

This question was asked & answered by LE at the Kyron update press conference on 6/9/10 at noon. There is evidence on the Kyron thread that day at noon Pacific time (check it out) and you can also go watch the news conference in the media thread if it's there.

Also, you can search & read the early Somer threads and you'll find the discusion of the presence of 24 hour police liason. You can also see that Somer's body was found quickly with plenty of evidence and that the murder was solved.

Finally, yesterday on Kyron's threads (there might have been as many as 3 threads yesterday!) someone linked us up with the FBI info on family liasons in such situations.

I think the fact that they were offered this service is not a good thing in terms of what they are worried about for Kyron.

I have no info as to whether the liason is still there and if it's still 24 hours. Just that, apparently, it was on that occasion of that press conference.

How far away is it?It's not Kyron. It was a hiker?I just find it very interesting he was found the same day Kyron came up missing.

You can use the map's 'directions' button to calculate distance between two points.
It's sufficiently far away by road; 40 minutes or better at a guess.

Were the kids supposed to take their science projects home Friday when school was out? If he couldn't take it on the bus in the morning, how was he supposed to take it home on the bus?

EXCELLENT POINT Forensic Fan! If Kyron was expected to be on the bus that afternoon, why hadn't there been arrangments made to pick him up to transport that project that was too big to put on the bus in the first place?

Sorry to be a pain but can someone please confirm for me that todays presser is soon? I seem to remember reading it'd be at 10pm my time (2pm for OR I think) but now I can't find where I saw it!

I was up almost all last night with my 3yo little girl having nightmares there were beasties in her bed, so I want to get an early night but I'm hoping to cath the presser first. TIA. :blowkiss:

""There was a science fair here at the school," Portland Public Schools spokesman Matt Shelby told CNN. "You had a situation with lots of parents and friends coming through the school, going class to class." "Kyron was here with his stepmother, seen with his stepmother," Shelby said. [29] The roof was also searched. Portland Public Schools spokesman Matt Shelby said two teachers saw Kyron with his stepmother and thought the two left school together. He said it was common for parents to pick up kids this way, so no suspicions were raised. [40]"

And as for the rumored "appointment"- perhaps it was the teacher who had an appointment: there was a substitute there that day; maybe she was going to fill in when the regular teacher left to go to her appointment.

(Note to Self: Never use the word appointment three times in one sentence.)

I just asked the same question, I was told that SM sent e-mail to teacher to make arrangements to pick it up, but I also heard the e-mail was just a rumor, so IDK.

Well, I for one, am hoping this is a rumor!

WHO the h*ll is going to be worried about picking up a project when their son is missing???????

I think that the school typically checks visitors. But on days like this when people are coming and going for special events, they let the rules slide a bit and as we know, the results have been disastrous. The school rules are only as strong as the weakest link and as inconvenient as it will surely be, they are going to have to enforce them on special event days.
IMO, the school is realizing that they probably did not follow typical protocol and this will not be the end of it.
JMHO.

With my FB account, I have noticed it is not always current. Maybe the updates vary between pc's, laptops, blackberry's and other technical gadgetry. Its not uncommon for me to check FB in the morning and see posts/comments from the previous night that I did not see the previous night. I have seen other FB acct holders say the same thing. I have also experienced glitches in FB myself when playing games. Like anything else, I think FB and its servers are subject to glitches, snags and hangups like everything else in this world.

Yep, I also have FB on my laptop and phone. Sometimes when I update from my phone it doesn't show up for hours. Sometimes stuff is missing and then it's not and then it's gone again. It may vary according to your internet provider, wireless phone provider also.

This was supposed to have been during the same day, before he was reported missing.

the room they had the science project set up in, didn't seem to me that it was used other than that exhibit on that day. So maybe his project along with others, could sit there until Monday until parents could pick them up? The other projects in the room look as large as Kyron's so how did the other kids get them home?

LMAO can you link to the rumor saying that the rumored arrangements were made after the boy went missing as opposed to in advance?

Totally teasing, I think until we can link the source that said the mom or sm made arrangements to pick up the project we best leave it be.

Okay, I have searched and tried to find an actual article about this and I can't do it. But, here is the page of the thread where it was discussed.

Does anyone else remember when (I don't know where law enforcement got the information, but it was released by them to aid in the search) it was said that Kyron was afraid of the police.

A normal 7 year old that isn't all that unusual. But THIS 7 year old has a Stepdad who IS a police officer. Why would Kyron be afraid of the police, if it is true that he is?

"Rivers are overflowing, BTW. They are deeper and faster than they should be. Are there any waterways around Skyline?

Showing pic of Kyron. Last seen 8:45AM am. Step-mom called school at 3:45PM. Authorities can't confirm he was at school. Lt. Lunds??? is being interviewed and says this is devastating for the family. He is extremely shy and afraid of the police.

End of story."

That's been bugging me. :waitasec:

There is lot of discussion about that email and I am trying to find the source of it right now.

This is a good example of why we try to keep rumor off the threads. It has been mentioned so many times that it is taken as fact.

It still very well may be, but I am still looking.

This is a RUMOR which came from an anonymous poster's comment below an early media article. That is the same comment that the RUMOR about the appointment came from. You will most likely not find this on a link anywhere unless someone took a screenshot of the comment, because the comment was removed from the site within a day or so of the original posting. (I am not sure it is ok to post this, but the poster of the comment used the name Randomdood.)

I read that too. But I think the step dad was a detective not uniform. Anyway, that means that if someone said they were a cop, he wouldn't go with them because of it. Maybe he thought cops arrest people and that scared him, IDK.

My daughter isn't afraid of the police. She has been singing the theme song to COPS since she was 3. I do not think it normal for kids to be afraid of the police. I also do not think Kyron is. Little kids are generally fascinated with policeman and fireman.

As for Kyron's CSI shirt, my daughter is nine and can tell you which CSI I am watching just by the theme song. She doesn't like to see the autopsies on there because they can be gross but she likes watching some of the forensics gathering.

I have always been honest about the dangers of the world with my daughter and that has not made her antisocial or afraid. JMOO.
