Just my opinion...I'm thinking that she (like everyone) heard that Kyron was last seen by SM when she dropped him off at school at 8:45am. Since we now all know better (she didn't just drop him off, but instead went in with him to view and photograph the science project), that is maybe why she said don't listen to the news...
I agree.

If you go back and read the first thread, there were all sort of conflicting reports in the beginning. Still are, in some respects.

That is what I wanted to know if she went in with him to the science project.Thank you.

I like your signature.

A horrific 1992 incident in which a 12-year-old girl was abducted from the library of her Southeast Portland middle school and raped nearby changed school security practices across Oregon.

After that highly publicized abduction 18 years ago, it became standard practice across the state for schools to lock all but their main entrances, ask employees to prominently display ID badges and require visitors to sign in at the office and wear visitor badges. Sign-in rules are generally relaxed or dropped, however, during events such as science fairs, concerts or parent-teacher conferences that draw a lot of parents and other adults.

Investigators Release Few Details; Seek More Tips
Portland Second-Grader Missing Since Friday Morning
UPDATED: 6:24 pm PDT June 7, 2010

"I feel that we're closer today based on the fact that we're getting leads that we're following up on," Gates said.

Gates said the last time Kyron was seen was at 9 a.m. Friday at Skyline Elementary School, but there have also been reports that a classmate saw Kyron in what Sheriff Dan Staton said was the "late-morning hours."
He would not comment on who last saw Kyron.

Pictures #6 and #7 are two of Kyron's artwork that were released today here:

One picture he drew is of a squirrel, and for some reason it made me cry.

God I just want this cutie to come home.

That is when they are most needed.

Trying to catch up here, but I had a theory about the white truck: if AmandaB's theory is correct about an older sibling of another student, then perhaps the parent of this older child was made aware of what happened and possible evidence that needed to be retrieved that got left behind. And so went looking. Just a thought, however farfetched...

And, aside from what you mention above, I think it's far more important for Kyron that the family make themselves readily available to LE, comfort and care for the other children in the family, stay nourished and try to get some sleep, as difficult as that is, rather than making media appearances at this time. I'm sure those who are/have volunteered don't mind waiting for a public "thank you" from the family - I certainly wouldn't. JMHO ~

this has got to be part of the profile, imo.
busy visitor day @ school. not a coincidence. not a minor offender. adult planning. someone Kyron had reason to trust talked him into something unplanned during a very exciting and rules-relaxed day at school. imo

such as:
"hi Kyron - oh can you come out to the van and help us carry our project into the science fair?"

So, according to that report I just posted, we have sightings of Kyron at:

- 8:45am - stepmom says good-bye in hallway to Kyron, who heads to his classroom.

- 9:00am - unknown by whom or where. LE would not give the info.

- late morning - student saw Kyron at a south entrance of the school.

The article mentions other school security issues too, such as "Procedures have reduced, but not eliminated, the dangers of strangers on campuses. According to Portland school security officers, most people who trespass at schools are minors -- typically dropouts, former students or students from other schools -- who show up looking to cause trouble".

I do not want to attack the school here, but our school ALWAYS makes us wear visitor tags for ALL events except those that are not during regular school hours! How I wish Skyline would have had the same foresight!

Where's the south entrance to the school? What's near there?

Does the state do background checks on staff?

How easy would it be for a trusting kid to be led off by someone he saw around all the time, like a lunchroom monitor?

My poor old computer isn't used to moving so fast lol.

Didn't Gates say they'd try to have another press conference this evening? I'm glad to hear they're keeping the public up to date on how the search is going.

I hope so....I couldn't watch it ....

Yeah like tricking him into going outside. I think he knows this person. I feel it.
