OR - Kyron Horman, 7 yo Second grader, Portland, 4 June 2010 - Part #9

Besides the fact that numerous news sources have published the information that authorities have indicated that other children are not at risk, the very term "isolated incident" means that. What else could they mean by terming Kyron's disappearance an "isolated" incident?

I recall Gates saying "isolated incident". I would like to know if he has ever said other children are not at risk, or if it's all just reporters who have said that, or said he said that, because I've watched every presser, more than once, and I don't recall him ever saying that other children are not at risk.

That would definitely have gotten my attention - I would have been apoplectic - so I don't think I've just forgotten it or missed it. That is possible though.

But if anyone comes across a direct quote of Gates - or any other LE - making that statement, I would appreciate if you'd holler at me.

Thanks.

:cow:

And expressing that one is going to, doesn't mean that one did. (Not that there is anything wrong with working out when one is under stress. It's the #1 thing doctors recommend.)

:cow:

I think "hitting the gym" may not have meant working out here....to be fair, we'd really need the context of the comment to understand. And since all this stems from SM's FB, which is now private, we can't discuss it.

But generally, if the comment was in the context of a discussion of what activities were going on in regard to finding Kyron, since the gym is also a center of activity for donations and such, and also IIRC somewhere the family has been for a long time and have many friends, "hitting the gym" doesn't necessarily mean just working out.

I would like to know if LE has checked out each and every parent that attended the science fair. Just a quick check to see if the person has a previous record of being a sex offender. Yes, tedious, but IMO, worth it. I am wondering if anyone who attended came with a friend, a relative, etc. that did not go home with them when they left the school.

QUOTE=x_files;5278359]I am having a hard time believing he wandered off alone too, unless the woods were close to the school. Then it would have been easier to get to and back where he thought he'd be safe.
If he did walk in the woods to find something he must have really walked in far or fell where the searchers cannot see him or hear him.
It would a happy ending if they did find him in the woods.
X,
It's hard to explain the woods in this part of the country if you've never been up here..They are dense, and dark too, as we get very little sunlight. I personally know a couple of experienced outdoorsmen and women up here who have gotten themselves lost in the woods. Often people panic, and start walking towards where they imagine they came into the woods. And thus they go deeper into the woods, and so on.... All JMO

Does anyone more local than me know where milepost 6 is on Cornelius Pass Road? If you go to the link above and scroll to a "shots fired" call on Jule 6, I believe, it shows a 911 call made. Nothing more than that, just caught my eye and kind of creeped me out. Not sure where MP 6 is.

I've been looking in street view on google maps but haven't seen one MP marker yet. Anyone know a better way to look that up?

I like the suggestion a previous poster had made to search the thread on key words for info. We're into thread #9 on this and I still can't believe there is still discussion on the SM going to the gym, how they should and shouldn't be acting; what's "normal" behavior; etc. This has been addressed from every possible angle imaginable. Please, enough already. :banghead:

Isn't it odd that when most people ask friends , family and co-workers or employees not to talk about something, that "something" immediately becomes the hottest subject around, but when Kyron's dad sends an e-mail asking people not to talk...no one talks? How does that happen?

In my experience, familes split by divorce are rife with resentment , disapproval and accusations of wrongdoing. Having to "share" your kids with whomever the ex decides to allow into their life, multiple sets of in-laws, division of the friends; all are cause for gossip, even when both spouses try to get along.

It would take something big to keep everyone...EVERYONE, from speaking out when a child with so many branches on his family tree is missing.

I smell lawyers all over the place. I don't believe that they are there just to protect the family from harrassment. There are lawyers running interferance for Intel, the school, the county and no teling who else. Even the cops are walking on eggshells so they won't be accused of jumping to conclusions.

I think that , until they have a "smoking gun", LE continue to play the "no reason to think abduction" game.

JMO

I have not read all of the posts so forgive me if this has been mentioned but I keep wondering if they have lockers at that school and if so have they been searched?

Again I want to apologize for my regrettable mistake yesterday when posting quickly without double-checking stuff; the last thing I wanted to do was to post anything that would make WS appear anything less than a totally credible forum.

Back in thread one (link below) there was "hear-say" that a "creepy man" had been seen around the school, as talked about by students on FB:

http://www.websleuths.com/forums/showthread.php?p=5253466&highlight=creepy#post5253466

And early on Captain Gates refused to comment on a reporter's questions as to whether or not there were transient shelters in the woods.

http://www.oregonlive.com/portland/index.ssf/2010/06/ground_search_resumes_this_mor.html

That could explain a live child being moved from primitive camp to camp.

A previous poster linked us to The U.S. Dept. of Justice website called NISMART - Nonfamily Abducted Children, National Estimates and Characteristics. (ojjdp.ncjrs.org). I can't remember if that poster brought the charts over here. This might be a hint as to why this was called a "unique" case (although it would seem more proper to call it "unusual" or "unlikely"). In that article it is shown in Table 4 that the percentage of all nonfamily abductions that occurred in a school or daycare was about 5% (there wasn't a large enough sample to be exact). In a stereotypical kidnapping (they define these terms in the article), it is only about 2% (also not a large enough sample to be exact). So it's sure not as common as in a Street, Car, or other vehicle, Park or wooded area, Another person's home or yard or Other Public Area. (percents for these add up to about 90% for nonfamily abductions.) (my bolding)

another statistics site:

http://www.ncjrs.gov/html/ojjdp/nismart/03/ns4.html

It sounded like the "uniqueness" of Kyron's disappearance might be more than just statistics, tho.

I hope these links work or I'll just give up trying to add my 2 cents'.

Please, dont quit posting...we are all learning. With every case we learn more and more....

I wonder if they r saying this bc maybe he was abducted and was murdered ( God Forbid!) by a student or sschool worker, etc.?

If someone associated with the school was suspected of being involved there is no way LE would allow children to go back to school the following Monday morning (or continue to attend.) The liability would be too great....even if that person was in custody already or wasn't back at the school for whatever reason.

I keep going back and forth between the theory that LE and the FBI know so much more than they are letting on and the outcome is going to be the stuff that movies are made of (or maybe that is just wishful thinking on my part?)....or that they know absolutely nothing and are grasping at straws! :banghead:

So stinkin' sad. Where is that precious boy?????

Does any one know where it says SM emailed?the teacher of when she could pick up his project and when that was?Did she go back to the school that day?

Please remember also, that this gym that the parents went to is one of the major collection sites for donations to the search teams. This would indicate that they are more involved there than just a few workouts a week, and that the visit could have served dual purposes of thanking the volunteers, thanking the gym, and spending time with people that they consider close friends and personal supporters.
If they had left home and attended a church supper there would have been no outrage about the excursion. Different people have alternative groups from whom they derive strength and support.

excellent point.

Not everyone gravitates to organized religion or religious gestures (as a vigil may be perceived) in their time of crisis or need.

(Not saying I have any idea what would be helpful for Kyron's family. Just saying, with all respect, to each, his own - and that is how it should be.)

If there's future fundraising necessary in the community, perhaps it would be in the form of mini-marathons, bike races, maybe golf tourneys - that sort active club-related thing - if their support system has naturally grown out of such activities.

I think we're seeing considerable of evidence of community that has gathered around, and closed ranks in to support of this family. It's just not visually demonstrative in the way media can sit there with cameras and show it to us. Also, their resources & support systems may tend to be professional, efficient, digitally-linked (FB, Text, E-mail), school and activity related, and respectful of the family's wishes "don't talk to media".

A lot of things have been debated until point of exhaustion...and still it goes on. I know this happens when so little real info is known and people are frustrated...but the thread/keyword searching is a good idea...your question or theory is probably already here and would save lots of thread space...sometimes I page through 5 or more pages after being away an hour or two only to read the same old things...school is lax, maybe he had a phone, white vw, FB posts, etc...anyway, JMO and I am off again.

I have not read all of the posts so forgive me if this has been mentioned but I keep wondering if they have lockers at that school and if so have they been searched?

Welcome Softball Mom!! This is a fast moving set of threads, so no worries about the catching up. IIRC, there have been no statements that cover specifically what inside of the school was checked. I asked about lockers as well...I asked about ceiling tiles, closets etc...To my knowledge, nothing specific has been released. But we are relying on LE that the school has been cleared sufficiently to allow classes to continue....

Brilliant woman! (wondering if that would work for me):waitasec:

If nothing else, you'd get to meet a lot of tough guys with teddy bear hearts from the fire department, and most of them cook, too! If you have any eligible daughters, why not make this gathering of potentially great husbands an impromptu "debut".

yes, agree the woods can be quite dense. I've lived in the NW and I wouldn't wander in the woods alone as an adult but as a child I did follow deer trails and would wonder away preoccupied for hours.
I think if he did enter the woods he could be lost and waiting for help.
I hope this is the case they return him alive.

Best of my recollection this was posted as being attributed to an aunt but I have never seen a link provided showing anyone making that statement.

I have chalked it up as yet another unsubstantiated rumor til someone provides a link.

Brilliant woman! (wondering if that would work for me):waitasec:

Not here. When I met my husband, his freezer literally looked like the frozen food section of a grocery store. The fridge? Every condiment imaginable to man in the form of a type of mustard or steak sauce concoction, and pop. Tho he has matured to the level of knowing how to using George now! LOL!

Where are you, you cute little boy? What did you do that morning? What was it that was more of an influence to you than the science fair you were so excited about that grabbed your attention enough to take you away from us? Talk to us, Kyron. Tell us what would have gotten you away from your exciting morning and your red eyed tree frogs and your best friend. Was it a good thing? Was it a bad thing? What would have lead you away?

God, I am so frustrated. How can a child be there one second, all excited about his science fair and science project, and the next, vanish? With no one seeing? How can this happen?
