Hi Cory - praying for you and your family that you finally get justice. It won't bring your precious daughter back but whoever did this needs to pay for it. ((hugs)).

Hope this doesnt spoil anything for West Coasters but any doubt of Nick McGuffin's guilt was erased from my mind when they discussed what he did later that evening at the other females' house. Meth and an exposed penis? This guy's a heartless 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬 that deserves to suffer before he dies.

Hi Julie!
Thank you so much! I just wish I could fast forward about a year ahead. What a long journey it's been. Now comes the hard part. Reliving it all over again. Ugh. It would be so nice to finally put this to rest. We shall see.......

Cory,
I so wanted to reach out and just hug you as I watched 20/20. Your heart is an open book and your pain is felt by many here....I wish, I had magic words to take it away, I hope it helps to know how much we feel for you. I have to tell you that the profile picture you have up of Leah, I thought all this time that was you!! I can't get over how much the two of you look alike, I didn't realize it was Leah till you said on the show it was Leah. I know the wait will seem long, but try as best you can to find happiness in your life. I know Leah would want that for you. (((Hugs, Julie)))

Cory
Just watched 20/20 and saw your anguished face and know that your heart is broken with the loss of your beautiful daughter, Leah.

Ten years must be a lifetime of waiting. How awful and unfair it is to lose a beautiful daughter to such a senseless crime.

Your tenacity in finding the person who murdered Leah will pay off, I have no doubt.

You can count on us here at WS to join you in your shouts for Justice! Please take good care of yourself. :blowkiss:

I just want to say to Cory that I am so sorry for your loss. I did watch 20/20 tonight, and am so glad you can put this terrible loss to rest now. I can't imagine what horrors you and your family have been through. I wasn't aware of this thread and unaware of this case until I watched 20/20. My heart and prayers go out to you. God bless you.

The Vidocq Society? I wonder if that has been discussed on WS before. Whatever we can glean to help other families find justice would be such a blessing.

And man, every time they show Nick I get all pizzed off! :furious:

This is Leah Freeman.

Thank you Cory for sharing her with us!

I believe ABC does have their 20/20 shows available on line at a later date. I'll post the link here when I find it.

I am so very glad he was finally arrested , my heart aches for all you have gone threw. I just found the thread and have been reading it all night.

Hi Cory - I have been reading this thread for hours. Bless you for your strength in continuing to seek justice for Leah. I am a mother, but cannot even wrap my mind around what you have been through. Leah deserves justice and it certainly looks like it is finally on its way. It has taken much, much too long. I believe someone should be held responsible for botching this case. They had a clear suspect from day one and couldn't pull it off. There is no excuse. This was not a case of a phantom mystery killer. They knew who did it (within a reasonable certainty) and failed to gather the evidence necessary to prosecute him. I can't begin to imagine how angry you must feel about this. Just hold on a little bit longer, you're almost there. My thoughts are with you and your family.

Latest from the local newspaper "The World" on the status hearing.

http://www.theworldlink.com/news/local/article_3e210e01-8a6c-5c69-96df-4af6dcbbbdb9.html

"A projected nine-day, 12-person-jury trial, starting May 10, 2011, will determine McGuffin's involvement in the 2001 death of Leah Freeman, his former girlfriend. If convicted on the one count of murder, 28-year-old McGuffin could face a life in prison with a 25-year-minimum sentence."

"Tension also was obvious between the Courtright/Freeman family and McGuffin's relatives. As Courtright and her family were led into the courtroom first, McGuffin's father, Bruce, complained loudly to Court Administrator Ed Jones."

"Change of venue?... Frasier said it's typical for defense teams file for the change, but he has never seen such a motion granted in Coos County on a homicide case."

BBM

That was the first time I have ever heard of them and found them fascinating! What wonderful skills to donate! I hope more retired LE/scientists follow their example.

Cory, my heart breaks for you. I am so glad you guys FINALLY got a decent chief of police willing to dig in and solve Leah's murder. I cannot imagine in my wildest nightmare dealing with that first chief. He made my blood boil. :furious: I kept waiting to hear if there was possibly any connection between him (the first chief of police) and Nick's family - thinking maybe that was a reason he refused to investigate thoroughly. If 20/20 mentioned it, I missed it.

I have a question that I was hoping someone could answer. Earlier in the thread and in some legal documents I read, it stated that Nick switched between his car and his parents on the night of the murder more than once. It also mentioned him being pulled over or ticketed for a broken head light. Why wasn't this discussed last night? I know they covered the other girl's car that he was in but only his Mustang not his parents(or was that his parents car). One last thought...I recall reading about Nick being in the "party scene". I thought we were just talking weed(I know he had been getting high that day at a pond) and booze. When I heard methamphetamine, I realized that this was not a normal 18 year old, senior in high school, having a good time. Cocaine, Meth, and other stimulants can cause radical mood swings and changes in behavior. They also cause a sense of paranoia and panic which can explain his actions after 9:00 PM. Especially the attempted sex with the other girl. Drugs like cocaine, and Meth are huge factors in many rapes and sexual assaults. Young people, and I know first hand, are not equipped to handle hard drugs.
