Addressed to no one in particular

Is there something wrong with Ryan Bundy's face? It looks as if he's had a stroke. Does he usually look like that or is it just this picture.

I believe a car ran over his head when he was seven, resulting in a bone fragment severing a nerve which caused the paralysis.

I wish LE would get in front of this fairytale about Finicum not being armed and set the record straight.

I was wondering the same - mostly because I prefer that to the idea that he was earnestly behind the militants.

I was anticipating some trouble at the meeting due to the fact there were to be counter protesters in attendance and I'm wondering if LE did as well, prompting them to finally take action. It's a real possibility they chose to take these guys down when they did to prevent even more loss of life. That said, I don't believe this is over by any means. IMO, there are plenty of others at that refuge who want to go out in a blaze of glory.

It would be nice if the Sheriff of Grant County was instrumental in drawing them away from the refuge. His comments, if any, will be interesting.

I agree that it's a strong possibility that LE waited until the leaders were together away from the refuge on a lonely highway before taking action. They knew that one or more would want the whole blaze of glory thing. If this encounter had happened at the compound or in Burns or John Day, it could have been a blood bath on both sides. Their restraint has paid off, despite the spin the "Patriots" are putting on it.

I hope the occupation of the refuge can end with no more loss of life. I'm sure that's LE's intent, but the mindset of these people may make that impossible. The more martyrs they produce "upholding the constitution," the more new anti-government followers they gain. And on it goes...

$1.69/month is what they're *****ing about??? Who can't afford that?

Not only that, I'll bet there are law-abiding ranchers already in line for those grazing rights.

Despite his identity as a rancher, Finicum and his wife Jeanette earned their “main source of income” as foster parents with Catholic Charities Community Services, according to an interview with Oregon Public Broadcasting. In January he told the broadcaster that more than 50 boys—including from mental hospitals and drug rehab programs—had stayed at his family ranch in Arizona over the past decade.

Sorry - but if you're responsible for any children, you shouldn't be traveling to other states with your guns to protest against a government that financially supports your care of those children. IMO.

ETA: I see from this article that the FBI has established checkpoints along the roads to the refuge and only local landowners will be allowed in.

Something horse something something barn door.

It is not the photo quality. I forget why, but he is disfigured.

What are they doing with the backhoe? Not sure that is what it is called. TIA

Do we know how many are still at the refuge? I read four cars of "mostly women" have left & obviously the number in custody + 1 deceased, but that's all I've seen reported.

More cops are arriving headed south on 205, with vehicles carrying Porta potty's roadblock equipment, etc. #OregonStandOff

There are several armored vehicles and what appears to be a Blackhawk-like helicopter outside that Burns airport. #OregonStandoff

Who'da thought the government would require porta-potties for FBI field operations just the way they require them for fruit-pickers? Our laws are sometimes genius-ly "equal treatment." Too bad the militia-twits haven't figured out the Constitution big-picture, let alone minutiae like equal opportunity porta-potties.

I believe they are constructing a rampart or multiple ramparts.

Shouldn't that have been done when they got there? (lol, sorry)

Great that they've been taken out of the area entirely.....to a liberal hotbed, no less.

If those drones were possible to shoot down, Osama Bin Laden would never have been captured. There have probably been drones in Malheur all along.

I think that is the Federal court for western states. IIRC the white supremacists who killed a radio host in Denver years ago were tried in Portland.
