Found Deceased OR - Owen Klinger, 18, University of Portland, 6 Oct 2019

Does your name get printed on the ticket, like an airline ticket?
Depends on whether you use the app, print at the kiosk, print at home or buy on the train. IMO if someone didn’t want to be found they’d be buying on the train and paying cash.

Thanks for the information about Amtrak.

One case that came to mind was of a (formerly) pet case of mine - Pat Collins, a missing graduate student. They determined that he had called up Amtrak reservations but never made one, and many decades passed without much progress. It turned out he had taken Amtrak to a remote location in New York State and killed himself; his remains were only recently identified. Besides the proximity to Amtrak, his father on Live PD tonight mentioned that he didn't take his large backpack with him - and Collins was found with a "ditty bag" which is a small backpack and contained basically enough to get him to his destination, and the drugs he used to kill himself.

On the e-ticket yes. I would have to find an old kiosk ticket to say for sure about that one but since I don't have to show ID I could use any name but it would be linked to my credit card. I have never been asked on a train to show ID or in any way prove who I am. Owen doesn't look young for his age so if he bought a ticket and had to show ID on demand I doubt that it would be a red flag as he wasn't identified as missing until the following morning.

Do any of us know if Owen opened a credit card account? Many students are offered a credit card account at the opening days of student orientation. His family would not have to be notified as he is over 18.

I second all of this. I’ve been traveling alone on Amtrak since I was about 15 and I looked a lot younger than I actually was until about halfway through college. They really will only question your age if you look under a young 15 or 16.

Nice posting with you all tonight. It's my time for bed. Marking my spot.

Owen, where are you?

Apologize in advance for posting without reading every post. I started with this case and missed several pages.

one thought would be to see if there are any recent crimes(assaults ) reported on campus. Some universities do publish those, albeit somewhat after the fact.

With all the abuse in sports I’d be curious about the lacrosse connection as well.
No one else has brought this up since the 4pm interview with Owen's parents was aired. The interviewer asked about a crime that Owen had witnessed on campus. Did I misunderstand, or didn't the parents confirm that was true? Am I alone in thinking that is significant? If Owen either reported the crime or implicated someone when questioned, couldn't retribution be a possibility here?

On the train you must show an ID to buy the ticket. But you can pay cash at the station with no ID.

I’ve gathered that the university seems to be very tight-lipped about student crime.

According to the Amtrak system map (link), he could go north (through Washington and up to Vancouver BC); south (all the way to San Diego, with connections going east at various points); or east through Spokane which hooks up with a train coming from Seattle and goes to Chicago and all points east. There also is the Thruway bus which Amtrak uses to connect to smaller cities.

In Vancouver BC he could hop Viarail which heads across Canada. I believe they've said that he either didn't have a passport at or or didn't take it with him, and Oregon doesn't have EDLs yet (which would let you cross into Canada without a passport.) I assume he didn't have a Nexus card which can allow the cardholder to enter Canada without a passport.

He can get to the San Francisco Bay Area (Oakland) for under $100, so exactly how much money he has access to is a factor, as well as where he would want to go. It costs less than $50 to get to Klamath Falls in Southern Oregon, for example. It would be even less to go to Bend. There is vast of wilderness in those areas.

I’m honestly concerned about the possibility of self harm right before midterms of his first semester of college. Lots of pressure. Plenty of people who show no obvious signs of depression do it, so I can’t rule it out, unfortunately. :(

BBM Have they even identified what sort of ATM he withdrew the money from? If it was a bank ATM, they usually have cameras. Third party ATMs like you might find in a bar or dispensary don't usually have cameras, IME.
The report is that he used the ATM at the bookstore ( the only one on campus) and it’s a Chase machine

Lilibet, I am also increasingly worried about self harm because of the timing here. The night before the beginning of midterms. :(

I'm not a parent so it's hard for me to imagine that Owen's parents prefer a scenario where he is in danger or has met with foul play, rather than one in which he is pursuing his own interests, albeit in a rebellious and unconventional way. That said I guess either way they just want LE to pursue everything.

BTW Now that the new video was released I'm less inclined to believe the rail hopping thing, but do strongly believe he left voluntarily. He lied about where he was really going, he took money out, he had some intention or plan for that evening. The timing of it being the day before midterms is also relevant. Whether he intended to stay away for this long is the question.

I wish we knew more about the incident that he witnessed, is there anyway to access campus papers? Is it possible it was related to the lacrosse team and that is why they are being so silent? Someone mentioned hazing I could see that as a possibility.
I've been thinking this from the start.
I didn't know much about how adderall exchanges work so looked it up. One article said this, which makes sense why they would not be able to find it on email/computer:
"Another student, Nicole, advises against even bringing it up over electronic communication. “[Don’t] talk about Addy on any social media, text, nothing. I mean, that’s hard, but if anyone messages you on Insta, Twitter, anything, don’t reply, you’re just setting yourself up. SnapChat is alright. Basically, you don’t want any black and white evidence laying around.”

According to streetrx.com one pill of varying dosages in Oregon in the last week has sold for anywhere from $4-12. A bottle could easily have been around $150.

Alright, stopping with this theory now because I hate the thought of it. Holding out hope they get some answers this week!
It's my understanding that Addy is essentially meth according to neuroscience. Many meth junkies started on Adderall. I don't know what Owen was into but if he was heading into St.Johns that would be the place to get either one I'm sure. Fred Meyers parking lot has campers at night there by McDonalds that frequent a dope house near by. Again Owen does not appear messed up in photos so I'm not theorizing on this either. I do want to point out that the coach and team mates have not really said anything about Owen. Been saying this from the start. Not sure about the hazing theory but I often wonder if team mates know something about his demeanor. Group texts could be from team mates which would make sense his parents not recognizing numbers. Do lacrosse players use meth or pharma dope? Recent articles apparently say they do.

I just read about this! It is interesting to me since the Detectives who did the documentary say it’s a serial gang who has killed in 11 states! The victims do match up - young, clean cut white athletic college students from solid homes. It does cause my mind to ponder
I have been watching this. Hoover Criminals are a newer breed of baby gangster that gain status by killing and they are rogue as hell. No codes and going for the shock factor. Some seriously scary stuff. And of course there's MS13

How heartbreaking for his family. The facts of this case have me leaning towards self harm or voluntary homeless (like “Into the Wild”). If he went somewhere very remote he may never be found. My hope is that he is exploring/searching within and will resurface eventually.
