OR - Portland Shootings. Several Wounded. At least one dead. 2 August 2019

"A Portland shooting left multiple people with gunshot wounds and at least one dead, reports said.

Some reports indicate the suspect is a woman who fled the scene with a young child.

The shooting was reported just after 2 p.m. in the 6200 Block of Northeast 42nd Avenue. Police arrived to find multiple people shot. Portland Police said in a statement.

“They immediately secured the scene and facilitated getting medical care to the victims. The victims’ conditions are not available,” the statement said. “At this time no arrests have been made, but officers and detectives are still actively working the scene. There is no suspect information available for release yet. The crime scene is closed to all vehicle and pedestrian traffic on Northeast 42nd Avenue between Northeast Holman Street and Killingsworth Street. The PIO is not responding to the scene. More information will be released as available."

"Damian Strickland, who said he was an uncle to the victim, told The Oregonian/OregonLive that his niece, Tamena Strickland, shot and killed her brother, Deante Strickland. He said Deante’s aunt and grandmother, both named Shirley, were also shot, one in the knee and in the back, and are at the hospital. Damian Strickland said his mother, the elder Shirley, was shot nine times, all in the pelvic and hip area. Doctors expect she will survive, he said.

He also said a 4-year-old child was present but was uninjured.

RIP Deante. Such a sad ending to such a young life, especially at the hands of his sister, allegedly.

"A Portland homicide detective arrested Tamena Strickland, 30, on suspicion of murder and attempted murder at 6:52 p.m. at Central Precinct, suggesting she may have surrendered to police. She was booked into the Multnomah County Detention Center at 9:33 pm. Friday, according to jail records....

His uncle said Deante left the house and asked contractors working across the street for help. “The contractors were giving him CPR as he was saying, ‘My sister shot me . . . I don’t want to die,’”

Damian Strickland said. “We’re confused as to the motive,” he said. “There wasn’t any ongoing disagreement or anything weird.”"

What a tragedy.

Certainly mental illness is a possibility. The other thing which come to mind is sexual abuse--either of Tamena or her daughter.

Tamena Strickland, 30, was charged with one count of murder with a firearm, two counts of attempted murder with a firearm, one count of assault in the first degree with a firearm, one count of assault in the second degree with a firearm, three counts of unlawful use of a weapon and six counts of recklessly endangering another person."
