GUILTY OR - Sahara Dwight, 5, raped & murdered, Roseburg, 9 July 2010

One of the comments say that Sahara's little brother is only two. That strikes me as odd that he would sleep on the top bunk but maybe he had a rail. I hope he's able to articulate whether or not he heard anything and whether he was threatened or hurt in any way.

Bless that little boy. Dustin stole from him the joys of having a big sister.

I found Dustin's dad's MS page and looked at lots of photos of his kids. Sad to say, I couldn't have pegged it at all. Both kids look great. Dad seems involved and bright and aware. Lots of common interests. Really not what I was expecting.

By heart goes out to that father tonight. This was not what he was expecting, I'm sure. He's the father of a lovely young daughter whom he obviously adores. I can't imagine how he must feel about his son tonight.

:grouphug: We always try to make some sense out of these stories, don't we. I always try to find a reason, warning, something, anything that could possibly help us stop these horrible things from happening.

That's why we are all here.

There's some interesting and disturbing comments on here. I'm assuming that LE is following up on this:

Check out the comment by "Dustins Friend" on 7/12 at 6:35 pm

Then run a check on these two pages for that name:

The name used is a real person. Is this just a terrible joke or an outcry? There's an interesting link between this person and others in Oregon. Sweet Home is only 100 miles north of Roseburg. What's the connection with Hugo, Oklahoma?

Interesting that you would notice, Belinda LOL. Excellent sleuthing indeed.

It could be someone posing as J.T. and posting these comments to hurt him as well.

Edited to add comment: I mean, one of the things he said was that he himself was a loser and loved it.

Does anyone see a way to send a private email (not a public comment) to this author?

I think someone dislikes JT and is trying to make him look bad. The post comment should be flagged.

I emailed what I think is the correct address and alerted them but it is still there. Very odd. And in case anyone wonders, as I did, if the "Belinda" poster is "our" Belinda, it's not. I checked. So someone is watching this and did the research.

I'm going to see if there's an email address for the Douglas County Sheriff's office.

I just spoke with a detective at Roseburg PD. He's asked that I send him the link. If anyone else has seen anything else, please post and I'll get you the phone number and name of the person to call.

I was directed to a Detective Knott at the Roseburg Police Dept. He spoke to me and asked me to email him the links to the comments. He was very appreciative of the tip and interested in the details. I doubt that we will hear anything back but at least we know that a child in Oklahoma will be checked on. Hopefully, is this is a sick joke, the comments will be removed.

I deleted my post, because I had the wrong Email link to the Sheriff's office. That was the previous sheriff. I'm still looking for the current Email address.

I first called the Sheriff's Dept. but it was after 4 pm. I then called the Roseburg Police Dept. and explained the issue to a very kind and helpful receptionist. She connected me to Det. Knott.

The Roseburg Police Department's number is (541) 673-6633.

"ROSEBURG, Ore. -- Police are investigating the death of a 5-year-old girl Friday morning in Roseburg...."

and

"According to the Roseburg Police Department, just before 5 a.m., officers and EMTs responded to a call about a girl who wasn't conscious or breathing..."

and

"It's not normal for a 5-year-old to just pass away," Roseburg Police spokesperson Sgt. Aaron Dunbar said. "We're here for a reason." Dunbar called the death "suspicious."

Prayers for this little one. Roseburg, OR is being hit hard this week. First, there was the arrest of a well liked 2nd grade teacher, Steve Derlacki, for possession of child 🤬🤬🤬🤬 and now the death of a little one. It's a close knit town of about 20,000 in Central Oregon.

And, here is the follow up article to this story, which was published July 9th.

And, yes, prayers for this precious little girl......

I've noticed on the comment sections to these articles, especially the News Review of Douglas County, that most people are incensed about the release of the documents concerning Sahara's death. I realize that we, here on WS, look at documents like this every day. While they are tragic and heart-wrenching, I feel the public MUST know about the details of a case. Anything less would not be bearing witness to the crime victim's suffering. I think that minimizing any crime, tends to benefit the criminal. I'm wondering what other people's views are.

What is considered "best practice" for the news media and crime prevention?

No indictment yet in rape, murder of 5-year-old Roseburg girl

ROSEBURG, Ore. -- the case involving the alleged rape and murder of 5-year-old Sahara Dwight of Roseburg has not gone to a grand jury, so prosecutors don't know when they can expect an indictment, according to officials in the Douglas County District Attorney's Office.

Dustin Wallace, 16, was arrested and accused by police of raping and murdering the girl back on July 9. He was charged with Aggravated Murder, Rape I, Sexual Abuse I and Unlawful Sexual Penetration.

Even though they are waiting for an indictment, police say their work is not finished....."

and

....He is still being held at the Douglas County Jail, and according to court documents, Wallace has had two defense attorneys appointed. Don Scales, who recently represented Austin Clark, and Laura Fine, who represented his co-defendant Charlie Carnes in the Kevin Omann murder case, are Wallace's lawyers....."

(Plus another lovely photo of beautiful Sahara. We are not forgetting, Sweetheart. You rest peacefully.)

Can I ask, RoseWhite, what brings you to this conclusion? I'm curious. You might be right but according to this book, the average age of the first offense for juvenile offenders is 10-12:

http://books.google.com/books?id=ui...age first offense youth sex offenders&f=false

We surely know that our children were not the first victims for their rapist. He'd been noted to have inappropriate sexualized behavior since pre-school and also had a long history of animal torture. My guess is that more will be learned about this young man. Hopefully.

I not only want justice. I'm always looking for societal implications.

Since pre-school?! My god, what happend to that child as an infant? Did anyone ever investigate the parents? This may actually answer a question about nature vs nurture. My God, this is yet another heart wrenching detail that brings up mpre questions than answers.

God bless you and your family Miss Izzy and may Gods angels ^j^ protect your family and others from this sicko!! Who could have possibly released this creep?
