Yes, and so much of it. Maybe I'll try tempting an extraordinary mapper over here, see if they can come up with some lateral thinking to help us out. I hope, hope authorities are making progress on this case. The silence is so difficult, but I know we have to be patient.

I suppose if it is difficult for us, it must be nerve-destroying for anyone involved in Stephanie's disappearance.

Hi Zwiebel just wanted to congratulate you on your 7000th post! What a mile stone!

I am thinking out loud here & just wondering if anyone is feeling like I am. I know people get burned out reading the same stuff over & over again & not getting any new info to discuss but we are a very lively group here. We don't just discuss the disappearance of Stephanie. We have touched on football games, donuts, chess tournaments & a variety on topics that help us stick together when the news gets slow. Well we had the bombing to discuss last week & how it may have tied into this case but since then the media seems to have gotten rather quiet. I think it was Dicentra that said the FBI is on this case now. Correct me if I am wrong. So, that would mean there are more resources available in helping to find Stephanie and put this case back in the media again. Does anyone know if the JCSO has put out any new press releases regarding the status of Stephanie's case? Has the FBI openly acknowledged that they are working on it? The silence that has been portrayed in this case hopefully must mean that they are going through all the evidence with a fine tooth comb. I know we have asked hundreds of questions to each other on this forum and have picked apart the little bit of information that had been given to the public and then some other valueable info that Dicentra shared with us but I truly must sympathize with LE on this horribly mysterious case. LE must be going out of their minds trying to put together all the pieces to this puzzle. I surely hope that the FBI is lending them assistance so we get some insight as to what the status of Stephanie's case is. The media if I remember correctly has not done a follow up story on this case since Oct. 10th! Why??? Is the media not interested????? Now talk about being "BAFFLED"! It sure baffles me why the media wouldn't want to follow up on a missing persons case. Why didn't the media follow up on the "sightings" of a mysterious homeless woman in Longview. Unfortunately for Stephanie, she was a normal everyday gal. She wasn't rich or politically connected. Had she had been, this case may have been in the news every night. I only hope & pray that LE will solve this case sooner than later. The holidays are approaching rapidly and I sure hope for good news for all of Stephanie 's family and friends and newly found websleuth friends. Lilibet and OUOTP posted a while back some songs that reminded them of things that were happening on our site here. Well I have one for us for the Holidays. It's my all time favorite Christmas song by Vince Vance & the Valiants it is ALL I WANT FOR CHRISTMAS IS YOU! Sending much love & hugs to everyone here on WS and a warm thank you for all the thousands of hours you have taken away from yourselves and given to hep find Stephanie! You are all very generous, thoughtful and kind
people to have donated so much of your time and energy. I leave you today with one last thought since it is the Holiday season, our mantra should be HOPE FOR THE HOLIDAYS! Let's keep HOPING!!!!

Yes, it is quiet. I agree. I sympathize with LE too. I'm sure they are deep into the separate investigations of the explosion and Stephanie. I hope silence means there are leads they can't talk about, rather than that the cases are at a dead end. I think what Dicentra meant is that the FBI is involved in the bomb investigation, but we hope that will overlap into Stephanie's case if there is a connection. There has been nothing said that would indicate that the FBI is directly involved in Stephanie's case though.

There have been no new updates from JCSO. You're right that the last media update was October 10. Multiple WSers spoonfed them the link to the video by Sasquatch, so they got busy. Stephanie just doesn't fit the profile of someone who gets automatic media coverage. Someone has to push for it. Nothing happens if no one is proactive. When you think about cases that might have been forgotten by the media, it's usually/always the victim's family that has kept the publicity going, even if they have a designated spokesperson to be their voice. That's what "baffles" me about this case.

I truly hope Stephanie will be found soon. I feel terrible for her family and friends.

Sending love and hugs right back at you, Sad Eyes.

P.S. I didn't post a song, but I can't remember who else did. They were great!

This popped into my head while reading on another thread (McStay Family Found Buried in the Desert Near Victorville). Is it possible that Stephanie was deliberately buried in a location that could implicate someone other than the POI? He and his son have repeatedly pointed at her former bf/neighbor as the one LE should investigate. I don't know if their properties adjoin, but what if she is buried near or on his property?

That kind of thinking wouldn't surprise me in this case.

I noticed the Jackson County Marine division do say all their boats are 'jet powered', so that description of a 'jet boat' we had earlier would fit, especially as Applegate Lake is their patch. They can cope in just a foot of water too, so ideal for searching shallow lake edge areas.

I think that report of a lake search might well have been true.

This is where items taken from Lennie Ames' old trailer and camp will have ended up, I think. There is a big pdf evidence manual there, 'for clients', and I'm going to read it. Authorities may not be able to tell us what they're doing, but maybe there's enough info there for us to take an educated guess.

This may be foolish. Last time I kept posting about reading useful stuff on a US local govt website, I suddenly found they'd blocked it to non-US citizens! Made me feel quite picked on, Lol.

I think you're right. You just taught be something about my own county! Good research!

The K-9 section was neat too. http://jacksoncountyor.org/sheriff/Divisions/Patrol/K9Teams.aspx

I'm still on the forensic pdf guide. It reminds investigators to always examine the position of vehicle seats. :)

And the rear view mirror. A suspect might remember to return one to its original position, but both? I think probably not.

Thanks for the PDF Evidence Manual, Zwiebel. Fascinating! I highly recommend WSers reading it and posting things that jumped out to them. If nothing else, it helps us appreciate the process of collecting evidence.
http://www.oregon.gov/osp/FORENSICS/docs/PhysEvidenceManual.pdf

The main points I got from it:

LE has to know it's a crime scene before collecting evidence. In Stephanie's case, I wonder when that happened...before or after POI and company moved in or out? Did their moving in so quickly have anything to do with wanting to leave explainable DNA and contaminate the scene?

The local lab here in Central Point, Jackson County covers three counties and the list of what they do is limited. Some items have to go to Portland. Even Portland does not do computer forensics. So analysis takes time. I can see why cases move slower than we'd like.

There is a LOT to remember about collecting evidence, not contaminating it, maintaining the chain of command, etc. I hope LE carries this manual with them. I wonder how much evidence is useless because of the way it was collected or transported due to human error.

As we know, DNA samples are supposed to be collected from family of missing persons once they have been missing 30 days. On Stephanie's case, it should be from her mother and a sibling, since her father is deceased. We don't know if this has been done.

This is a very interesting read. Thanks again, Zwiebel.

Another thing that struck me was the mention that the last item of clothing or other material, to touch another item, deposits the most fibers there. So even if an item has a lot of fibers present on it, or has been touched by the same thing before, the last thing to have touched it may still be obvious, from the amount of fibers present.

I always thought if a suspect and a victim had any legitimate previous contact (travelling in each other's vehicles, for example), fiber evidence would be useless. That may not be the case though.

I don't think I've put that very well. S. Hormann revised the entire manual in 2011 and explains it much better than I just did. Thanks for your hard work, S. Hormann, and all the members of the forensic labs.

The properties ARE adjoined; Several neighbors share a main drive that branches off into 3 main property driveways, each with it's own metal remote controlled gate systems.

At first I also thought that the former BF's property might be a possibility, POI and son DID put a lot of energy implicating former BF. Initially, LE did their most through and intensive search on former BF's property, so I think she's NOT there. Just want to say that though POI and son implicated former BF, NOBODY around here believes that he had anything to do with Steph's disappearance. Former BF has been helpful and heartbroken throughout this investigation.

Thanks for clearing that up Dicentra. I remember POI's son agitating publicly for that property to be searched again! I'm glad to hear that the community doesn't believe the allegations.

I just hope that it doesn't turn out for Stephanie the way it did for Kaelin Glazier of Ruch. Her body was found many years later in a field that supposedly had been searched. I know some people want to believe that it was placed there after the initial searches to incriminate the guy who was convicted. Seems farfetched to me, but nothing is impossible.

Now that behaviour is contradictory, if you ask me.

Neither Lennie Ames or his son bothered to report Stephanie missing, but then son starts activating for repeated searches of ex-boyfriend's property? But maybe he and his father had searched everywhere else they could think of by then, so that was the last option?

How many searches has Lennie Ames - current boyfriend at the time Stephanie went missing - organised, by the way?

If Stephanie was happily living as a neighbour of her ex, it tells me they didn't have any problems with each other. I would be rather interested to know if Mr Ames had any issues with the ex though.......he strikes me as the type who would. A bit insecure.

The very last comment under the article here - it's just being ironic, right? Michael Hastings didn't have any connection with Stephanie? Not that I'm looking for any complicated theories here - I think Stephanie's disappearance will turn out to be yet another sad and sorry repeat of a familiar tale.

....I couldn't help laughing; someone's showing their age there, mentioning the Stasi.....they are all too busy having bbqs in their kleingartens (allotments) nowadays.

Last year, Medford police launched a media appeal for hunters to help them find two long-term missing men (they have 8 missing people there). I wish Jackson police could do the same for Stephanie.
