Search for missing woman's vehicle underway near Corvallis

A Brownsville woman is missing, and local law enforcement officials are searching the Willamette River outside Corvallis.

Benton County undersheriff Greg Ridler said Suzanne Durheim, 65, didn’t show up for work Monday at Samaritan Health Plans in Corvallis.

Durheim’s family and the county began the search for her Jan. 7. They found tracks that went off the road near milepost 1 of Highway 20 near Hewlett-Packard.

They've closed down the highway for now (presumably for a recovery operation). I was looking into it because my husband drives another section on his way home from work. I wonder if she took a different route to work that morning because of the icy conditions. Prayers for her family.

This is so sad. It’s so easy to run off the road and end up submerged in a lake/river/etc. I’m glad they found her vehicle. For the family/friends. I hate when there’s no trace ever found again of the person and vehicle. I wonder if they’ll find her, too. moo.

#update - @BentonCoSheriff calling off operations for the night. Tow line keeps coming off truck, water conditions too bad to continue. They’ll proceed at 8am tomorrow. Still no word if Suzanne Durheim is in truck

"There's three of the four windows broken out," Undersheriff Greg Ridler said. "The water is very fast, very swift. The truck went down the river quite a ways, it's very easy to guess that she got out of the vehicle during the roll down the river or when in the river. But right now we don't have anything for sure."

Search for missing woman suspended

Authorities have suspended the search for a Brownsville woman who’s been missing since Monday morning, when her truck apparently slid off an icy Highway 20 and rolled down an embankment into the frigid Willamette River just south of the HP Inc. campus in Corvallis.

“I’m not going to say there’s no hope, but I believe we’re on a recovery mission, not a rescue mission,” Benton County Undersheriff Greg Ridler said on Friday afternoon.

Marine deputies with the Benton and Linn County sheriff’s offices have patrolled the river in boats, and the Linn County Dive Team has searched beneath the surface to no avail. A dog trained to detect human remains was also brought to the area but failed to find Durheim’s scent.

Ridler said the search would resume next week, when a body submerged in the river since Monday might be expected to come to the surface.
