“Police said the shooting happened in the 10200 block of Southeast Main Street, the location of Adventist Medical Center.”

At a hospital.

"As far as we know both of these individuals are still alive and we are hoping for more positive updates throughout the afternoon," she said.

Statement from Portland police

It sounds like the ICE agents shot two people and then left the scene. WTF?

“On Thursday, January 8, 2026, at 2:18 p.m., Portland Police Officers responded to the 10200 block of Southeast Main Street on a report of a shooting. Officers confirmed that federal agents had been involved in a shooting. Portland Police were not involved in the incident.

At 2:24 p.m., officers received information that a man who had been shot was calling and requesting help in the area of Northeast 146th Avenue and East Burnside. Officers responded and found a male and female with apparent gunshot wounds. Officers applied a tourniquet and summoned emergency medical personnel. The patients were transported to the hospital. Their conditions are unknown. Officers have determined the two people were injured in the shooting involving federal agents.”

In a post on X, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security said U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents were conducting a traffic stop when its agents opened fire in self-defense.

"When agents identified themselves to the vehicle occupants, the driver weaponized his vehicle and attempted to run over the law enforcement agents. Fearing for his life and safety, an agent fired a defensive shot. The driver drove off with the passenger, fleeing the scene," DHS said.

It said the passenger in the vehicle was from Venezuela and illegally in the United States and affiliated with the transnational Tren de Aragua prostitution ring. DHS said the person had also been involved in a shooting in Portland.

One shoots civilians while pretending to defend the homeland and the other shoots civilians while pretending to defend the border. JMO

And here we have yet another incident of “self defense” and “weaponizing a vehicle.” JMO

The DHS post is literally unbelievable.

So it’s what they’re told to do.

Here’s my theory: ICE is being instructed that they can get around qualified immunity in order to shoot people fleeing. They are being told to claim that they were being targeted by ‘domestic terrorists’ to justify these shootings. They are being told they will be protected if some such shooting does happen.

This isn’t random.

Sounds like a presser is getting set up. Not ready yet.

Portland mayor is making request that ICE halt all actions in the city until this issue is resolved (paraphrase not direct quote from presser)

Paywalled
One quote from the article by Congresswoman Maxine Dexter is:

“Trump’s immigration machine is using violence to control our communities — straight out of the authoritarian playbook. I encourage our community to stay calm and show courage in this moment. We must allow our local law enforcement to do its work.”

International observer here. It seems with these sort of incidents that a culture of seeing others as the enemy and being trigger happy is what is fuelling it rather than a genuine interest in protecting and defending people IMO. That said I want to read more details, I don't trust what the government sources say at the moment IMO

Entire presser is strongly against ICE being in the community. (It's still underway as I type this.)

They also left the scene in Minneapolis. I heard the ICE agents cars were stuck in the snow (??) and they all took off in a Suburban right after the shooting. The ambulance showed up 15 minutes later and couldn't get onto the street because of the abandoned ICE vehicles. The paramedics had to walk on foot to the victim, then just carry her back to the ambulance because they couldn't get a stretcher there. There's a sad photo of them doing that with the victim blurred out in picture. Have you ever heard of police officers shooting then all just taking off afterwards? Two times in two days...
