geez that is a good point.

My own smart phone will be dead/completely drained in 24 hours or less if I start with it completely charged (that is with minimal use). I have LG 4G LTE. Seriously how was the phone still capable of having battery life that long?

Anyone else have any other info on how long batteries last in smart phones... my type of phone is only one example.

I have an iphone and it stays charged "forever"... as long as it's not in use.

I do know, if I turn the sound off, but not the iphone totally off, (when in a meeting, church, etc)
and I receive a lot of text messages and/or phone messages, that fill up my voice/text message space...
a call will go straight to VM.

Same as when I completely turn my phone off. Same as when the phone needs to be re-charged.

I call his bluff on this one. as if LE didn't verify his story with the workplace, to confirm it WAS his day off rather than him calling in requesting the day off.. All My opinion, of course :)

The detectives working on the case probably know, but the police chief, if that's who handles the pressers, might not know offhand.

Remember, these reporters are flying questions at him right and left and he is expected to know and recall every detail, which is impossible without looking at notes. I don't find it strange at all.

Press conference 10:00 10/19

<snipped>

A: In terms of individual items, other than the phone, we've collected a lot of items, but I don't want to disclose what they were.

This stood out to me. I only read about an apron and glasses so far. "a lot of items" sounds they found much more than that. I wonder what else?

It does not look good imo :(

Looking at Dodge Park in Streetview, it looks like there is some kind of maintenance facility next to the park entrance. A sign posted on on the fence says: "Area Under 24 Hour Surveillance"

http://goo.gl/maps/pkdxA

Maybe her vehicle was captured on video from this location.
Just a thought.

I'm not sure exactly how long it was after Whitney was reported missing that LE said the vehicle might of been in the Sandy, OR area but it wasn't long enough for LE to check out every surveillance camera in the area to find the needle in the haystack that captured her vehicle many miles away from her home when they wouldn't have known which direction her abductor might have taken her. The video at the gas station, if there is any video is easy, her ATM/Debt card was used at those locations so they knew to look at the video to see what can be learned.

Besides if they had seen her vehicle on video they wouldn't have said her vehicle "might" of been there, they would have said it was. I suspect they knew her phone (or someone's phone related to her) was pinging off a tower in the Sandy area and LE suspected that she was in the vehicle at the time. The general public will remember or recognize a kind of vehicle easier than remembering a face or a person they didn't know before hand. Showing a picture of the vehicle might of jogged someone's memory who might of been at the park that morning.

I wonder if Whitney's boss is a personal friend of both Whitney and Clint. Assuming they didn't have a landline - the boss was able to reach Clint, probably via his cell. I know my boss doesn't have my cell or my partner's cell..

Has her boss or any co-workers spoke up (locals - news or anything?) to rule out a possible customer who had harrassed her at any point?

Does her neighbor's pink hair and tats tell me that she likes Metal?

Late answer, trying to catch up.

No, the pink hair and the tattoos just show that she lives in Portland. I know several people who are otherwise "normal" that are absolutely covered in tats, piercings, or crazy hair colours.

I agree that 'decide to be sick' wording is really weird, but it could be along the lines of 'decide to take a sick day'.

I mean, at this point most companies are aware of how often people use sick days without actually being 'sick'. Some companies just get it over with and call them personal days.

Just my interpretation though, either this or else the boss *was* being snarky about it. And probably regrets it now.

I agree in thinking that the boss was being snarky and likely feels terribly about it now. Given Whitney Heichel's mentions of recent health issues and switching her schedule around so she could get more sleep, Tuesday might not have been the first time she didn't come into work as expected.

Just wanted to bring out this point in another incident:

http://clackamas.katu.com/news/news/497112-deputies-search-man-they-say-assaulted-woman-apartment

Deputies search for man they say assaulted woman in apartment

--drawing of his face on the website.

Just bringing out the strange things that have happened around Gresham around the same time. Also it is that time of the year - Halloween when lot of young women disappear.

Sorry, I'm not caught up. But this made me remember that there was a suspected serial rapist in Vancouver (right across the bridge in WA) sometime last year. I don't know if they ever caught that person. I have a friend that lives right off of 205 in Vancouver and there was an attack in their neighborhood, not far from Gresham at all.

Have we sleuthed the area for RSO's? I have a bad feeling that it might have been someone associated with her apartments. . .either living there or visiting friends. Just a hunch though.

I would hope your boss has an "emergency number" he can use if you were to become hurt or ill at work. She probably put her husband's number on a form they keep in the office in case of emergency.

I do not have a 'smartphone' I have a 'dumbphone' (just a plain old cell phone) I mostly only carry it for emergencies and it will hold a charge for WEEKS as long as it's turned off. So if the phone was turned off before it was dumped, I think it would hold a charge for much longer. JMO

ETA: I see below that the kids found the phone because it was ringing!

At this point, there really aren't that many different kinds of cellphone charger types. Either your proprietary Apple-type charger, or mini/micro USB for Android phones. I'm sure it would be trivial for the people who found it to find a way to power it up. I don't think a lengthy comparison of different cellphone battery-life capacities is worth a lot of discussion space (or else we're all just going to end up reporting the average battery life of every cellphone we've ever had), but that's just me.

Every cell phone we've ever had has a different size end, where you plug it into the phone. My hubby has had about a dozen phones, I've only had three. But NONE of the chargers would fit one of the other phones. But we don't have Iphones, just plain cells.

If her cell phone were on in an area where there is not great reception then the cell usually works harder to get a signal and can cause the battery to be drained much faster then usual. I know this happens to mine when I am in the mountains and my phone is constantly searching for a signal. Just thought I would throw that into the mix.

ETA: Also, I have a smartphone and my husband has a dumbphone, but our chargers are interchangeable.

Lol, always the voice of reason, Hi gwenabob :seeya:

I believe she is friends with Whitney on facebook, so the relationship is at least that personal.

I find that very hard to believe. If the phone was on LE would have pinged the phone and known the phones locations days ago.
