Yeah, but even he admits he killed her at the lake. It's highly unlikely she was wounded/dead/held hostage while in the passenger seat. Betcha she was on the folded down seats...

Yeah good point. Unless she was killed much later than I was guessing, she wasn't in the passenger seat being held hostage at the gas station. It's a stretch but I can imagine an attendant possibly not realizing it if she was being held hostage, but I don't think there's any way they'd miss the fact that she was wounded or dead in the passenger seat.

For some reason that seems to be a common mistake, the blurring of JW's and Mormons beliefs. Kudos to u that you did ur research.
I agree about CH. I can't imagine how that meeting was that they both attended(CH & AH), for them, for everyone...talk about raw emotions! I just get from him that he is just a super guy, even now under all this duress.

It's totally understandable and happens often, I always appreciate too when people are willing to ask and say "hey, is it true that <insert question>."! :)

And, man, I was thinking that too...1. I know from PERSONAL experience what a relief and help it is to have a place you can go (in my case, a congregation) and know people will rally around you to build you up, comfort you, etc... but! 2. the potential for some apprehension, discomfort, awkwardness, etc. would be SO TOTALLY understandable in this weird situation, for both AH and CH....to know that they have pulled together as victims instead of harboring resentment for each other (which again would be an understandable reflex) makes me feel some kind of *sigh* of relief and I wasn't even there to witness it.

I imagine there were no dry eyes in that Kingdom Hall last night.

But did you input your debit PIN when you used the card? If he used it as "credit" over $25, he would have to sign. He wouldn't have had the PIN required for debit.

Nope. Never a signature. Never a pin. Never a zip code.

I pull in, roll down my window, hand my card over and they swipe and hand card back. When done they ask if I need a receipt and most times say no and am on my way.

I also have used my husbands card when he isnt even in the car.

never really thought about it until this case - but kinda scary its so easy to use someone elses card here in OR!

Same here! It made me tear up just watching the interview. I can't even imagine the collective sigh of relief, likely followed by tears, when that happened.

This was our experience last year when we were visiting our inlaws in Oregon...I even had my husbands debit card with me once, pulled in, handed the card, said how much, waited, he pumped, passed the card back, asked about a receipt, I said "Naw thanks" ;) and went on my merry way.

Aww Clint, Bless him. I know his pain is deep such a sweet man. Even though I didn't know Whitney, the love she had for Clint was so obvious I'm sure she wouldn't want him sad and hurting she would want him to be happy and to continue on strong. I'm glad he and Amanda have the support of the family and friends.

I think he is a special guy, I have to be honest. I know a lot of great guys (my husband being one of them) and the way CH is handling this is very humble, mature, hmmm, I wanna say gracious but I don't know if men are described as "gracious". He's a good guy, imo.

Well darn you for getting stuff done today... ;)

I agree, I think it's just not knowing, at least for me. When I very first read this story I was totally confused about someone who's a JW working at Starbucks because of the whole caffeine thing. Google search quickly showed I was completely mixing up/blurring religions. Not to get off on a religious tangent, but I appreciate learning more and being more informed.

After hearing CH's interview earlier and his comments about AH, I am so glad for them both that they have such a great source of support. I'm in awe that CH is being so compassionate towards AH too. I know there's no reason not to be, but he's gotten to that place incredibly quickly IMO. Much as I'd like to think I'm that 'good' of a person I think for awhile even the sight of anything or anyone connected to JDH would be very difficult and upsetting. I don't know if it's his faith, part of his nature, or probably some combination, but I was really touched by his comments about AH. I bet it was a huge relief for both of them but especially her when they had the chance to get over that 'hurdle' of seeing/talking to each other.

I took the same thing away from CH's interview. It also made me good that he's is doing all the things I'd hoped he was doing. (surrounding himself with his support system and trying not to be alone, etc) He is probably still in that "floating" stage. That shock that comes over you. There probably will come a time when most people go back there normal lives and then it HITS you and you grieve all over. But I think he'll still have his family, WH's family, who it seems are the type to consider him a "son' for life and his congregation. I agree too with the person that said he seems to be careful about every word, knowing that people are scrutinizing him.

[ot- I was raised a JW and someone once told me (not asked) TOLD me that JW's don't believe in getting medical care. Which was rather comical since I'm an RN.]

Awww finally was able to watch CH's interview. What a sweetheart,my heart just breaks for him. It's absolutely amazing to me that he was able to give AH a hug. She must be so crushed as well that he would reach out to her in that way.
Btw there is an AH Facebook support page https://www.facebook.com/pages/Loving-Support-for-Amanda-Holt-Adams/295444840564466?ref=stream

BBM

I've wondered if JDH didn't kill her at Roslyn Lake and then drove off, leaving her body there.

But then after thinking about it (and after getting gas?), he went back to get her body and took it to
Larch Mountain, which is further away and, maybe he thought, would probably be more difficult to find.

<snip>

A lot of your theory makes sense except for the 'small amount of gas' reasoning. I live in OR and it costs around $100+ to fill my truck. I have never had to sign anything using my debit - be it $5 or $105. And with JH being from Oregon as well I assume he would know that. No signatures.

So - I still have no clue why the small amounts...

EDIT: I generally do NOT get my gas at Shell however, so maybe it is different? But for example I filled up just yesterday at a Chevron and no sig required... but that IS with my debit and I suppose that makes a difference on what type of card he was using of WH.

True, it might only be in a grocery store scenario where the 25 dollar signature kicks in on Visa and a pin number for debit. I was probably giving JH too much credit for actually planning this, when he scattered evidence so randomly and carelessly. I might have to lean to the theory, as someone stated before, that he bought gas in small amounts to limit his time at the gas pump and getting seen. 257th is a main busy road, like Hogan/242nd. If he was looking nervous, he was probably not thinking with fine motor skills, but just a fight or flight and just not wanting to get caught. Gross motor skills of get gas and run were probably kicking in. Although he was licensed as an EMT, he had never been verified as actually using it with emergency services and dealing with actual adrenaline dumps in his system under crisis.

The other theory of being cautious, because he doesn't know how much is left in the bank account, sounds fair as well. If you have some pocket cash and the card doesn't go through, you pay with cash. If it is a big gas bill, like 80 dollars, most people don't carry that much cash on a daily basis, they rely on visa or debit. So small amounts would make it safe to purchase, and if it doesn't go through, then you have pocket cash to back it. The 1999 Ford Explorer gets 14 miles to the gallon and the 4 door has a 21 gallon tank. You could easily spend 90 bucks filling the whole tank. But if he had been to Larch Mountain before, he could easily estimate that maybe a half tank might get him there and back easily. It truly depends on how full the gas tank was after he got back from Roslyn Lake.

Yes, I'm pretty sure I heard Washington Park on local Portland news tonight.

Clarification:
Police report says "a Washington Park where he grew up"

Link to police report in Post #177 provided by Knox

Confusing but...

"a Washington Park" is referring to a park that is in Washington State. Gresham/Troutdale are located on the Columbia river, across the river is Washington State. Very easy to go across the river on I-205 to Washington state (Washington State is about 11-12 miles one-way from that Best Buy).

"Washington Park" is located in West Portland and about 19 miles away (one-way).

I remember reading this, but I forgot to post a link I found. I cross referenced the date of 8/18/11 and Washington State Parks. The I-205 Bridge is near Parkrose, but the parks in Washington are scattered. The Fallen Leaf Lake Park was dedicated on 8/16/11 but appeared in the 8/18/11 Vancouver WA paper The Columbian. I guess the Koch Brothers added property to an existing park with a lake. Could this be the park he desperately had to go to? I am not sure where he lived before Parkrose, but I thought I read that they moved there when he was 7. Maybe the park was an excuse on that Thursday Night to go check out Ladies Nights at the different bars in an anonymous car. I am sure LE are checking into missing persons cases around that time.

The amount of gas could be because he typically drives a motorcycle that gets better gas mileage. He puts in $20 in the suv and realizes later that is not enough, he get more thinking it will suffice only to realize he needs more.

Makes sense to me.

JR is Jessica Ridgeway...the facts of the scanner thread completely contridict what was said in the Denver Post Sunday article that lays a bunch out and now Fox 31 stated a bunch of new stuff, which LE tweeted 60 percent was bad info. We get new conflicting information on that case everyday. We don't know what the facts actually are in that case.

I haven't been following that case, so thanks for the clarification. The best place to get the facts is always from the official source, in Whitney's case its the City of Gresham, which is what news agencies generally do. Their national/international affiliates then publish the story in their own areas - i.e., New York, UK. One omission or change to the story -- such as "a" Washington park vs Washington Park (vastly different places) -- and the wrong info is widely disseminated.

Another example: Whitney's car was originally spotted at 1:00pm Tues. Then the public affairs official (or whoever writes the City's releases) updated the information that same day to correct the info and said the car was actually discovered at 11:17am. So that time difference caused some confusion regarding the timeline. Here's the update from that press release: Investigators have confirmed that the vehicle and bank card were used at a service station at 257th and Stark at 9:14 a.m. The vehicle was found at Walmart in Wood Village at 23500 N.E. Sandy at 11:17 a.m.
