What a beautiful photo it's heartbreaking that Whitney's life was cut so short. In every photo I have seen Whitney has a smile.
Thank you Xavier! Nice to see you again! It is great that you and everyone else are keeping Whitney in your thoughts. JH effected a lot of lives in this community with his unspeakable acts. The pain and suffering, that JH has caused everyone is beyond words, and his trials can not be here soon enough.
Although all of us come here with different approaches and angles on sleuthing, our goals are all the same. We want Justice for Whitney and peace and healing for the loved ones left behind. In the meantime, we just have to make sure that the darkness, from JH's acts, does not cover up Whitney's light, that shined so brightly on everyone!
In November, a young singer by the name of Forrest Jones (from a band called Mellow Head) posted a music video about WH, with his acoustic song called "Beautiful Whitney". A few weeks later he went into a recording studio and produced the same song, but with some additional instruments. I think that his songs and video are a great tribute to Whitney and her loved ones! If you like his Youtube music video, you will be happy to know that he has offered both versions of his songs available for a free mp3 download on his site. This guy has a big heart!

We are now coming near to the Jonathan Holt trial date of February 25th, entered in Multnomah County, for 10 counts of encouraging child sex abuse and 1 count of burglary. I've been trying to watch for any information about this upcoming trial, but have found nothing new since the original news in MSM in January.
I sincerely pray that justice will be served soon for our dear Whitney. Plea or no plea.

Thank you CaffeineJean! I sure hope that whatever I have contributed, has helped bring justice for Whitney! I have not seen any new news either. I too, am sending a lot of good thoughts and prayers for justice to be served soon! Saturday marked the 4th month, since Whitney was taken from us. This has been especially difficult on her family and loved ones.

Thank you Caffeinejean for this wonderful link and all of this great info! On that link I found a hearing status check for JH, scheduled in Clackamas County on 5/13/13. Maybe the trial in Multnomah County is to put pressure on a plea? I will definitely keep my eyes and ears glued to the media on Monday!

"Many criminal cases end in a plea agreement in lieu of a trial. Negotiations between the defense and prosecution take time to complete, and courts use status hearings when the negotiations are ongoing."..."Outcome: Essentially, a status hearing acts as a check to determine the next move of the defendant. At a status hearing, several things can occur, including a request to continue the case to another status hearing, a request to move the trial into the pretrial conference phase, a request to set the case up for the announcement of a plea or to announce that a plea negotiation has not been achieved and the case is ready for trial."

Sorry to say, but the trial date set for JH in Multnomah County has been "set-over" until March. I pulled this PDF from the Multnomah County District Attorney's online docket which shows Holt has been moved from the planned date of February 25th to March 25, 2012. Listings are alphabetical.

The "Set-Over" must have been awarded on Friday during the "Call Regular" session.
I am assuming that the defense attorney for JH (Conor Huseby) is staving off a conviction of the 10 charges of "encouraging child sexual abuse" in Multnomah County in exchange for a guilty plea for the multiple "aggravated murder" charges in Clackamas County. With a guilty plea and life imprisonment, instead of the death penalty, the child abuse charges would be expunged or sealed before the prison term for the actual murder conviction begins.
All of the above is just an assumption and my opinion only.

I found myself looking for areas known to me before only from visiting them via Websleuths; it was a bittersweet experience, but one that had a little extra special meaning simply because of this wonderful young woman most of us have all come to know from afar.

It appears that the Multnomah County Court dates in March, were cancelled for JH. I did a search today, and the following are the only dates that appear to be scheduled:

The "Hearing Status Check" in Clackamas County, was already scheduled when we checked last week. The change appears to be the added "Hearing Further Proceedings" scheduled for May 16th, in Multnomah County. I wonder if they are working on a plea bargain for the Monday 5/13/13 date? Maybe the outcome of the plea bargain deal, might determine if they will proceed with the Multnomah County charges at the Thursday 5/16 hearing.

Guess it doesn't say "TRIAL" anymore for Multnomah County. Damn! :furious: Do you think they are watching us watching it? I won't forget the charges even if they get swept under the bargaining table.
I will second that :furious:! JH should be held accountable for every act that he has done. They can not give him a sentence long enough to make up for the innocent life he took, and the pain and damage that he has caused others. I will not forget the charges either.
My guess, is that the Multnomah County trial was originally set to give JH a reality check of what it feels like to be on trial, before a plea deal was put on the table for the Clackamas County charges. The Multnomah Co. charges might have only given JH a possible 8 year sentence, but it would have most likely made a psychological impact on him. Of course the aggravated murder charges in Clackamas County are a lot higher stakes, with the possibility of the death penalty. If new evidence was recently discovered, then there might be additional discovery currently in the works. They have until next year's court date to negotiate. The problem is, that it is difficult on the families and all of the loved ones involved, to drag this out, if indeed a plea bargain is part of the plan. All of this of course, is only my opinion.
One example of the psychological effect that a jury has on the accused, would be the Timothy Gaffney case. There was a last minute agreement made on a plea bargain by the accused killer Timothy Gaffney. He was charged in the stabbing death of a man, during a robbery in San Antonio. At the last minute, when the capital murder trial was about to start, he agreed to the plea deal. The judge stated to the jury : “Because you came, there was a plea,” 144th District Judge Angus McGinty told the jury panel. “You see the whites of the jury's eyes and that works.”

There are two things that might effect the death penalty in Oregon.
First, Governor Kitzhaber declared a moratorium on the death penalty while he is in office. Second, the Oregon lawmakers are deciding if they should ask the Oregon voters to vote on repealing the death penalty altogether.
The following article states that: "There are 37 people on Oregon's death row. Just two killers have been put to death since Oregon reinstated the death penalty in 1984. But both men in those cases dropped their appeals -- in a sense volunteering to die."

In my opinion, there seems to be two ways at viewing the death penalty in Oregon. The first way, is to put the accused on trial and seek the death penalty. Even if the jury finds the accused guilty, and the punishment is the death penalty, the many years of appeals makes it virtually impossible to follow through with the punishment. The second way, is to make sure the death penalty is still an option on the books, and plea bargain with the accused for life in prison with no chance of parole. Some say that if the death penalty is taken away, that the option to bargain for a plea for "life in prison" would go away. There would be no takers of this plea. The accused would have a better chance of going to trial, and most likely get a reduced sentence. Because of the lengthy Oregon appeals process, the people who were handed the death penalty and the people who got "life in prison" terms, seem to be receiving the same punishment; both are just sitting in prison for life.

Thank you Sasquatch for the great information about plea bargaining and the death penalty. Inparticular how it has applied to past aggravated murder cases in Oregon. I for one would not vote to abolish the death penalty because, as you point out, it is an important tool for prosecutors to push guilty pleas and murder trials forward for murderers who only have interests in their own survival. I would also be first to vote for bread and water and a hole to pee in for these self obsessed murderers :twocents:
