Dive into the future of forensic DNA testing at the Othram Research site, Othram Research. Our recent posts break down critical topics like the transition from STR to SNP testing, the nuances of familial search vs. forensic genetic genealogy, and the complexities of imputation in data interpretation. Stay informed. Stay ahead.

We need to bring this future faster, to everyone.

Othram is grateful to have assisted the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office and FBI in identifying a suspect in the 2023 sexual assault of a 14-year-old girl. The suspect is already connected to at least one other assault. This is why working contemporary cases quickly is so critical—the longer a predator remains unidentified, the more harm they will cause and the more victims will suffer.

Congratulations! You are getting these monsters off the streets. THANK YOU!

Autosomal SNP markers are central to forensic genetic genealogy, but mtDNA and Y-DNA markers can offer valuable lineage-specific insights, that enhance and accelerate forensic investigations. Our latest post from Othram Research.

Why are there unidentified children? How can a child be unaccounted for? We’re committed to seeking the truth. In our first Project 525 case, Othram helped the Mississippi State Medical Examiner & Mississippi Bureau of Investigation identify 17-year-old Stephen Shawn Austin, who vanished in 1997.

Not seeing a thread for the unidentified case

Do you know when his remains were found?

Also wondering this! And were his remains actually located in Mississippi or just "transferred to the Mississippi State Medical Examiner’s Office" from...?

Honored that Othram could assist the Riverside District Attorney's Office in identifying the suspect in the 1979 sexual assault and murder of 17-year-old Esther Gonzalez. This is the first solved case, processed using our new MDFI platform!

Wondering of any other victims who may have disappeared and were murdered at the hands of this liar. Goes to show that the lie detector tests were never reliable.

Your technology keeps getting better and better. Thank you for helping to bring some kind of peace and closure to Esther’s remaining family. May she RIP.

Godspeed Othram. You are such a blessing to our families, communities and hope for those still waiting to be discovered.

I’m sure LE is now tracking his movements and everywhere he may have lived since (or before) that time.

Yes, unfortunately there will be lots of follow up work to determine what else this guy has done.

Our DNA tech is constantly improving and this is an example of a case that was initially unworkable until new tools were available.

The unique thing about Othram is that we aren't just service providers. We also constantly iterate on the lab tech and software tools. We aren't just solving more cases, we are getting faster and better at solving more cases.

We need this if we are to scale this tech for everyone.

Agreed! Do you picture Othram expanding outside of your current location in the future? Satellite offices, labs in major cities? Anything of that sort?

Yes, but there are also many great labs in many cities and we would also happily distribute the tech so we don't have to necessarily build all new labs.
