Circumstances of Recovery- Remains discovered in a wooded lot (126 Cedar Creek Cutoff Road) by an individual who purchased the lot. 100 feet away from the roadway, a nylon rope and an electrical cord were tied to a tree branch with hair attached to the rope. A skull and mandible were located underneath the rope on the ground. Postcranial elements were scattered throughout the lot. A neighbor reported a foul smell 7 months earlier.

''In 2022, investigators submitted forensic evidence from the murder of Gracelynn Greenidge to Othram in The Woodlands, Texas. DNA recovered from the evidence represented a complex mixture, making it difficult to use in a traditional forensic genetic genealogy search. To address this challenge, Othram scientists used Forensic-Grade Genome Sequencing® to develop a comprehensive DNA profile and leveraged the Othram Multi-Dimensional Forensic Intelligence (MDFI) platform to perform a forensic search suited for complex DNA mixtures. The resulting DNA profile was provided to the Toronto Police Service forensic genetic genealogy team, which conducted a forensic genetic genealogy investigation, generated investigative leads, and returned those leads to investigators for follow-up.''

''In 2017, the Centre of Forensic Sciences (CFS) further determined that the same offender was also responsible for the homicide of Gracelyn Greenidge. However, progress remained limited due to the condition of the samples and the technology available at the time.
In 2022, Othram was engaged to apply emerging genetic genealogy technologies, and in 2025, investigators from TPS were able to identify familial relatives of the offender''.
On December 3, 2025, the CFS conclusively identified Kenneth Smith as the offender in all three homicides. Smith died in 2019 at age 72 in Windsor, Ontario.
If he were alive today, the Toronto Police Service would arrest Kenneth Smith for the homicides of Christine Prince and Gracelyn Greenidge. The OPP would arrest him for the homicide of Claire Samson.''
