PA - 11 killed, 6 injured in mass shooting at Pittsburgh Synagogue, 27 Oct 2018 *guilty, death sentence*

Didn't he get the federal death penalty? He's at the US pen in Terre Haute, IN.

Maybe we should resume hangings in the town square for criminals like this.
We are better than that.

As much as I hate the violence that the perp committed, I don't want to respond to it by wishing violence on him. He deserves to be punished when convicted and be put away forever - for sure! But when people say they wish prisoners to be beat up or raped or killed by fellow inmates, I can't stand by on the board when my post is quoted as part of the conversation and pretend I agree.

I'm for peace. Convict the guy, jail the guy - yes I'm for that. But reacting to violence with more violence is not what I stand for.

I didn’t say I want him to be beaten or raped or killed in jail. I just don’t want him to have privileges in jail that others do not have. Other prisoners have to fend for themselves, why not him?

Regardless of who they Worship!

I agree and apologize. I am just so angry and upset and this.
I understand. No need to apologize. I'm feeling all the emotions right now too.

Thank you. Sounds interesting. I have my sisters Netflix password, I’ll have to give it a go.

I couldn’t find it on Netflix, but I rented it from YouTube.

I don’t think it is too ahead of it’s time (2011) to be understood. The interviews with the wise individuals, including Desmond Tutu and Noam Chomsky, are straightforward. The trailer says it all. We are more connected than we are separate. Change comes from millions of simple acts from people connected, even to their enemies. God says, if not you, I have no one else.

It's true. There's a great documentary I watched called I Am. It was abouthow a movie producer went around the world and talked to all the most brilliant minds and scientists in order to determine whether humans are inherently evil, selfish and violent or inherently coooperative and good.

I won't spoil the film but in it some researchers show how simply smiling and being positive affects the actual air around you. It causes changes in molecules and changes people you encounter.

Well need to smile more at others and try to spread kindness like @margarita25!!

The Physics of Emotion: Candace Pert on Feeling Go(o)d • Six Seconds

It's an all around incredible documentary and it really has a lot of other good stuff in it. Amazing. Like how the earth has a pulse that can be tracked and how it sort of sighs deeply every time there is a horrible, massive scale tragedy.

Sounds like real hippy stuff but it's all backed by real science and research which I like.

It's available on Netflix I think:

I agree with your hippy stuff backed by real science research statement. Excellent connection.

There is also the film (documentary) called "Babies" which premises the point that people are not born with prejudice.

"I appreciated many moments during the many vignettes that linked developmental milestones of the four babies. The film demonstrated how much more alike we all once were before we learned to abide by this ideology, or that cultural construct. Whether our nourishment comes from a disemboweled goat, a cardboard box, or a farmer's market, we all require a connection with something grander and greater than ourselves."

Rest in Peace to all victims who have lost their lives.

I'm going to leave my thoughts and prayers before I dash out of this thread again as I don't want to find myself reading about the man who did this. I have no time for him. Only the innocents.

Thoughts and prayers are with their families.

So what's the solution?

Teach tolerance, compassion empathy to all children starting from birth and continue this throughout their life. Elect leaders who are good role models.
Look for red flags for those that lack empathy and are filled with rage/hate. Get them mental health help asap.

Future mass killers salivating over the potential of having their names in lights and loving that no one can figure out why. IMO. I'll unsubscribe from his thread and try to practice what I preach.

Thank you, cybervampira for posting this Full Press Conference. This is a must watch and I recommend everyone following this morning’s events take the time to view this video in its entirety.

I really wish for an auto transcription. I wonder if there’s some sort of software that can do this? Convert the audio from the video to text? My eyes and hands and device are not up for the task of transcribing, unfortunately.

I have many thoughts and comments on this PC and am invistioning a transcription with “my thoughts in red underneath” type scenario.

Six more days till Election Day! Our elected officials need to do better. The demagoguery isn’t healthy or helpful, especially in the wake of horrible events like the one this morning at the synagogue.

It is easy to focus on midterms - but that is the beginning of the mess I think.

It almost feels like the midterms are the only thing that has kept the brakes on.

I fear our presidnet is going to go on a firing spree - and my children are in danger when the special councils indictments come down.

In Watergate -69 people went down. Sadly we all better hold on, Muellers track record thus far is nothing other than astounding and he has been on hold for the three months.

Historically people quit around this timeframe and he is very fond of firing people, so after the midterms in conjunction with Mueller we all need to remain cognizant that dark times are probably awaiting our nation.

Not sure, but I hope so. Along with the agencies who should have been on top of the guy.

This seems like a simplistic response to any situation. It seems in our nation people think this does something.

The reality is anyone can sue anyone. Unless an entity has resources it is meaningless. Those with resources can fight a judgement against them.

From the presser:

- gunman had an assault weapon and 3 handguns
- wounded were taken to 3 hospitals - UPMC Presbyterian, UPMC Mercy, and Allegheny General.
- gunman is the lone wounded at Allegheny, all others at UPMC
- one officer has gone back into surgery, others are stable
- one member of the congregation has multiple internal injuries, in critical condition, others were described in serious condition
- unknown if any children were present, but none were shot
- next briefing will be 9 am tomorrow
- participants were Public Safety Director, Police Chief, FBI Special Agent in Charge, and Medical Director
- all praised the heroic efforts of LE who ran toward the gunshots to rescue people, their actions spared worse carnage
- gunman’s name was mentioned only twice, otherwise referred to as the shooter

For about 23 years, possibly when the Columbine High School shootings happened and it all snowballed over our country, I started wondering: When did young people stop understanding that death is final? That it's not something in a shooter video game they grew up playing?

Then, as I started paying more attention to man's inhumanity to man, I realized there is a pervasive rot, or illness, in the souls of people older than the Millenials. Maybe the Millenials made mass random violence famous, but then we've had the " loner" mass shootings because of all sorts of differences the shooter perceived to exist between himself and the " rest of the world".

My life's work has been spent taking care of people, those who are physically ill, and those who are emotionally disturbed. ( Not serious mental illness in an outpatient setting, as a delusional psychotic person can't safely be in the general population).

What I started seeing, though, were VERY emotionally ill, angry, defeated, alternate- reality people of all age groups trying to stay out of state mental hospitals. They would come to me hoping for a lesser diagnosis and a sort of "clean bill of mental health" which I couldn't and wouldn't grant if not true.

What has happened? Part of me looks into eyes and sees Satan sometimes. Not all the time, but in certain people, there is evil looking back.
I have always believed that people are generally good and kind and will do the best and right things.

I'm not so certain now. The ceremony in Pittsburgh was a baby-naming ceremony. Full of joy and the very meaning of life.
I grieve for those who died, for those who are injured, and for all who were there and witnessed the carnage.
I ask God why people keep dying in places of refuge, in synagogues and churches, in police stations and schools, and honestly, with my eyes closed in prayer, and tears rolling down my face, what I see are those eyes of evil, filled with the antithesis of God's love.
Satan's hate for mankind is loose in the world like never before, I believe.

Our shared eternal Father sees and knows all our pain, even if we cannot comprehend.
Ahava and Shalom to all who are hurting and bewildered by the evil.
