8 dead, several others injured in Pittsburgh synagogue shooting - Jewish Telegraphic Agency

Local CBS affiliate KDKA reported on the incident, which occurred around 10:20 a.m. during a bris circumcision ceremony at The Tree of Life, a 150-year old Conservative movement congregation in the Squirrel Hill neighborhood, which has a substantial Jewish population.

The suspect is a white male who surrendered to a SWAT team on the scene.

“All these Jews need to die,” the suspect said, according to reports.

“PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – Eight people have been killed and a number of others injured after a shooting situation at The Tree of Life Synagogue in Squirrel Hill on Saturday.

KDKA’s Meghan Schiller reports that a suspect, a white male, has surrendered. The SWAT team had been talking with the suspect, and he was crawling and injured. It is unclear the extent of his injuries.”

A new horror, this one close to my birthplace in PA.
What an atrocity that such evil and death could occur at a sacred place called “Tree of Life”.

I have decided there are no appropriate words in our current lexicon to convey the feelings such mass shootings invoke. It is beyond what we know how to say. And what an ominous and sobering and stunning state of affairs that is.

Unfortunately these shootings seem to never end. I don’t know that they ever will. :(

IMO, they won't stop until the MSM stops glorifying the shooters.

suspect in custody

Police spokesman Chris Togneri says police have no more information at this time because they are still trying to clear the building and figure out if any more threats exist.

Well said, @CocoChanel. Very sobering, ominous and stunning, indeed.

Glorifying how? By reporting on these mass murders?

There is nothing glorious or sensationalistic about reporting on hate crimes, mass murder or tragic violence like this.

Don't shoot the messenger.

It's really inappropriate right now, imho.

This is a horrible mass-casualty event. The shooter, for once, is alive and in custody.

By any gauge, this is a newsworthy, tragic act of extreme violence that must be covered by our free press.

Suppressing coverage for any reason right now would be ... odd (to say the least), and possibly unconstitutional.
