Suspect stabbed her boyfriend in the leg following an argument, he died of his injuries at the hospital (I am guessing maybe she cut his femoral artery ETA: this makes sense as he was stabbed in the left leg), and she has been charged with a misdemeanor?! Her bail is high—$200K—but still, that is smply appalling. I wouldn’t be surprised if there’s some controversy over the charge, especially in light of the fact that the suspect appears to be a young white woman and the deceased father-of-five appears to have been a young man of color...MOO

CARLISLE - An Upper Allen Township mother of three learned Tuesday that she will spend at least the next five years in state prison for killing the father of her kids on Oct. 26, 2020.

Alison Morris received her sentence after an emotional and sometime chaotic sentencing hearing in Cumberland County that, at different points, touched on many of the hot buttons of the American criminal justice system, including race, domestic violence and mental health.

When it was all over, however, homicide victim Ryan Young’s survivors pronounced themselves satisfied that the woman who took away their 36-year-old son, brother and father with one violent slash will pay dearly for her actions.

Morris, 25, pleaded no contest in April to one count of voluntary manslaughter stemming from the fatal fight at their Upper Allen Township home.

While they were initially disappointed Morris was not tried on more severe murder charges, Ryan’s father Kevin Young said the family is pleased Judge Christylee Peck imposed a sentence that was outside of even the aggravated range suggested by state sentencing guidelines for the voluntary manslaughter charge Morris pleaded no contest to in April.

“I feel good about it, because we thought we were going to get less,” Kevin Young said.

The seven-year minimum term Peck imposed - even after credit for the 19 months Morris has already served since her arrest the night of the stabbing - means she won’t be eligible for parole until November 2027. State sentencing guidelines for voluntary manslaughter, in most circumstances for a person with no prior criminal record, call for a minimum sentence falling anywhere between three and four-and-a-half years.
