GUILTY PA - Brandi Dunn, 22, found slain in burned Grove City home, 14 Jan 2006

Ditto to what Taximom wrote. Thanks to Steve for tipping us off on this case. I don't know how, but he always finds some interesting cases. I mean, these are people's lives. It's unfortunate that we have to find out about great people this way: that they wind up murdered. But kudos to you Steve, for introducing to us. I sure hope Brandi is resting peacefully, and that there is justice brought to her and her memory. I hope her parents, family and friends are able to rest well. I'm sure this is a most difficult time for them. Especially for her parents who probably lost a lot of great memoirs in their house, which was burnt to the ground, clearly destroyed. Not only did they lose their beautiful daughter, they lost pretty much everything. That's a shame. Whomever did this should pay dearly.

The husband's most recent comment on his MySpace page, dated 1/12/06, is from Brandi:

" 1/12/2006 7:40:00 PM

i know you are still mad at me, but i still love you, im sorry baby."

Hrm. Interesting. Two days before he "found" her body in the fire...

Um, ok. It REALLY riles me up when you guys slam MySpace. Do you know why? Because there are 40 million people on there. That's right. 40 MILLION. That site gets more hits than Google.

And you know why you guys have such a bad impression of it? Because here on Websleuths you only get to see the total freaks. The very nature of this site filters down to whom you are exposed.

A lot of my friends and I are on MySpace (no, I am not linking you to my page, thank you very much). As are almost 40 MILLION other people. That's bigger than NYC and LA combined. Actually, twice as big. And you see only a few of the profiles. You know why? Because everyone else on there are normal young people, trying to express themselves in their own ways. In a sea of 40 million, you'll always get some weirdos and freakshows and losers. That's just humanity for you.

So please stop being so ridiculously ignorant and slamming MySpace, Live Journal, and the like.

I actually work in the industry and My space is still way behind Yahoo, MSN and AOL. I will venture to say they are behind Google, too.
I will also be seeing people in the industry from all of those sites (and many more) in Florida at a conference in February and will have my words with them there, too. Sorry, but it's my choice, and until MySpace cleans up its act, I will continue to do so. I have met the people who started MySpace too and who sold out for millions. That's humanity for you, too.

The definition of ignorant actually means "not knowing" and a lot of people don't know what goes on there, including parents.
I am surprised that the people who now own MySpace let that kind of garbage go on there. (Actually, I shouldn't be surprised. It's all about the money.) Half-naked pictures, filthy language and the like. That's the world we live in imitated on web sites, uncensored. And I personally don't like it.
I'd rather be here, where it's clean and where we can have an opinion and do so without using filthy language :D

Ok, it is not my intent to start a flamewar (which I can see coming), and I apologize for getting so angry. There is a lot you say in your post that I could respond to, but I will let it lie.

But I will (calmly) say two things:

1) With 40 million members, MySpace is a pretty accurate relection of today's youth - and all the cultures and subcultures within it. It is their voices and profiles that you are seeing, unedited. So when you say that MySpace disgusts you, it is actually today's youth. (FYI: An interesting article is here: http://www.businessweek.com/magazine/content/05_50/b3963001.htm)

2) Your criticisms of it have to do with tastes and opinion. Sure, as in real life, there are a lot of people on there who I would NEVER associate with, online or off. And their tastes and language leave much to be desired. But you are also highlighting first amendment issues (ie freedom of speech), which, for better or for worse in this case, should really be valued in this country.

Finally, I would like to say that I am truly sorry about Brandi's death. Her husband looks pretty darn fishy. It's such a shame.

I totally agree ... freedom of speech.
Weren't you the one who first posted for us to not criticize MySpace?

I think there is a difference between informed criticism and that which is biased.
The bias is what I was trying to point out.

The end.

I also have some opinions about Myspace and the like. Why don't we start a thread in either the parking lot, or the jury room to discuss (without flaming)?

You're missing the forest for the trees, but then again, so is anyone who acts like myspace.com is the problem. Myspace.com doesn't kill people, people kill people.

I can't recall that I've personally ever fingered that domain or any other as the problem. The problem is the way too many people use it with no awareness of just how public it truly is. Now, if the domain owners are made aware of problem blogs, like when a number of people made Xanga aware that there were entire blogrings of pedophiles there, and they do nothing, then I'm going to criticize them. But I have a myspace, too, and I'll give you all the URL -- http://www.myspace.com/steveeffinghuff --

I originally got it because it's easier to navigate that domain if you are a member, but I do see why people keep profiles.

Here's the problem I have over there -- WAY too many kids who say they're 18 so the system lets them make a profile, then they state outright that they are 14 in that profile. I do believe Myspace.com needs to find a way to police this. A person who is in my friends space is a reader of my blog who told me she joined myspace originally because she is the mother of a teen who has a profile there. (Believe it or not, it's the "Heather" in my friends area who looks like Jennifer Love-Hewitt.)

I have never warned anyone off that network. I do say parents need to be wary, and aware, just like the person I mentioned in the preceding paragraph. The responsibility for the minors with profiles or blogs or both falls to the parents. Once you are an adult, it is your responsibility to understand what you've gotten into. Anything else is missing the point, as is slamming the worried adults who post here. I understand where they are coming from, but I can only say that the best they can do is police their own kids. People will do what they do, I'm afraid. Writing about crime had dang sure taught me that, at this point.

I was thinking the same thing as you.....I didn't find him posting to her all that strange but the whole Steeler's winning gave me the chills...........I found that very distrubing myself. I mean did he actually watch the flippin game I mean come on it was the day after your wife passed away and may have even been murdered.........
Not that I'm trying to stick up for Scott in anyway, but he wasn't actually the one that referenced Brandi helping the Steelers win in his "goodbye" post. It was GoSteelers who made that comment. And according to Brandi's friends that posted on Steve Huff's site, it was Brandi's love of football/the Steelers that prompted that comment.

Hey, I didn't slam MySpace! I slammed the people I've viewed. That's all. I'm sure there are nice people there too. I'm one of them! :p

Hey adit,

Thanks for bringing that up. I too had noticed that comment was getting wrongly credited to Scott, but decided not to set the record straight. I can actually understand a friend referencing the Steelers. It was an endearing remark made by a friend with whom she shared that passion. A spouse however, as others have mentioned, is a hole other ball game (no pun intended). A spouse, one would think, would be too distraught to even be able to log online, much less make comments about football or "paul bears" or anything else.

My apologies to "livinlife" and others re: any comments here or elsewhere I may have made about the literacy level of those in this circle of friends. "livinlife' has exemplified a very gracious and literate presence. I think I was mostly thinking of Scott's illiteracy and stupidity, and made a bad blanket statement. I feel for all her friends and family, and for her. She seemed a very bright caring young woman with a great deal of potential. NOT that people of lesser characteristics deserve any less sympathy, unless they are someone capable of having committed a crime such as this.

I also watched the news clip of Scott, and was sickened by his affect/demeanor/statement. Even as a 5'1" woman, I would risk being consumed with flames if I saw a loved one being beaten up by someone in a burning house in an attempt to rescue that person, and fend off the attacker. I also thought his mention of a possible robbery attempt by the rescuer was absurd. Was he perhaps playing on the recent tragedies of the Tucker/Baskerville/Harvey robbery/murders?

Still worried about the dogs! Do any locals know what happened to them? I know to many people that would seem a petty worry in light of such dire tragedy, but I'm sure Brandi herself would want to know they are okay....and she probably does know.

Loving, healing thoughts to all of Brandi's friends and family.

Looks like Brandi's and Scott's Myspace accounts have just been closed and their messages to their friends removed. LE?

Hmm ... I almost think that the hubby deleted the MySpace accounts after getting wind of the posts here and at Steve's site. Maybe, maybe not. But some of Brandi's friends had posted at Steve's blog. So I know this crime has been surfed already by people who knew her.
I think this because after we were posting here, he went in and change the picture of himself and the girls hanging on him. And he posted a message on Brandi's MySpace acount to her. It almost seemed as if it was posted there for the world to see if you know what I mean.

Very strange, though, that the accounts have been deleted.

Good article, thanks for posting.
Wow, this is the first homicide in that town in more than 40 years?
Must be a safe little town! That's amazing.
My hubby was born in Grove City. It is a nice little town.

Apologies if this has already been covered. I intended to post this in the wee hours of this morning, but we had a power outage.

In this Post-Gazette article, it says that police said Brandi's husband, Scott, found her at 7:30 in the morning.

This AP article states that Brandi's body was found at 10:30 am, after the fire was extinguished.

Wondering which was it?

I noticed when reading a bit at some of the 'friend's' myspace pages, that a couple of sympathy comments had been left for "GoSteelers" (aka now "Heartbroken") page. But, much to my surprise, no friends left any sympathy comments on Scott's page. That would be a big red flag, imo!

After reading about Brandi's death, right after Steve posted about it Saturday night, my gut instinct was probably another pregnant wife killed by her spouse.

Then, after I read about all the drinking she'd been doing recently, I though surely no one in their right mind would be drinking like that, if they knew they were pregnant. So, I backed off of that theory.

Color me cynical; but my revised gut feeling is simply that yet another husband has offed his wife.

I hope I'm wrong.

(Also, thanks to Steve for posting this intriguing story!)

He COULD be innocent. I am the last standing person on earth that thinks Scott Peterson is innocent though. Total jerkoff yes, but I still was never given concrete proof he did it.

She could have gotten drunk, fell and hit her head on a table that had an oil candle going.

Grasping I know, but since my last grasp at thinking about the Harvey murders and thinking the brother in law did it I am reserving thoughts of guilt until I see proof lol.

Traces of an accelerant were found at the scene.
