GUILTY PA - Carlesha Freeland-Gaither, 22, Germantown, 2 November 2014 - #2

Where exactly did/does this guy live? Whose house were they captured/recovered at? I'm confused.

They just said on local news (live TV) that the first girl told LE that while he held her captive he showed her photos of other girls he'd abducted. "More on that story as it develops..."

Somethings confusing me - on his fb page https://www.facebook.com/tamika.johnson.35513800 you're referring to a post from 1st Oct. When I view it I can't see a post from that date, but there is one from 2nd Oct @ 3:48am. Am I just seeing a different date because I am in UK and therefore it was already 2nd here when he posted it? Can someone else verify?

The October 1st post was made at 10:48 PM EST. It's the one about judging without all the facts and God is the only judge.

That is why I said that I think two people are posting as "Dee". The 8/16 and 10/1 posts are VERY different in every way (tone, grammar, everything!) from the other posts. I think someone close to "Dee" was sending him a message on his own FB site. I have an idea who,due to the religious tones, but we are not allowed to discuss his family.

Didn't his uncle say DBs father is a minister? - 2 of the posts sound like they were lifted from a spiritual speech or sermon. He definitely has deep rooted issues especially with women and ironically almost all of his FB friends are women. A lot of contradictions on his FB page.

Commissioner Ramsey just said on GMA that it is his understanding that Carlesha kept continuing to fight with DB in the car after it drove away (he said "after she was down" or "after she was bound"....I couldn't catch it!). I simply cannot believe DB kept her alive. What a miracle.

Ohio Three--> Michelle Knight quote: 'Just when the caterpillar thought the world was over, she became a butterfly.'.

Answered Prayers! "Awareness is the KEY in missing person investigations"! The American public via MSM and social media is a very effective and valuable investigative resource when utilized"!..

Along with the vehicle's GPS device, many tips were called in to law enforcement by aware citizens identifying Carlesha Freeland-Gaither's violent predator..

Ramsey on Wednesday night praised his detectives' work over the last three days and thanked the media for spreading awareness and the public for sending in tips.

At the news conference, Keisha Gaither hugged the lead investigators on the case, Detective Jim Sloan, who she said had sat at her kitchen table for hours after her daughter's abduction and promised he would bring her home.

"And he brought my baby home," she said through tears.

Sloan, who worked the case with Detectives John Geliebter, Brian Boos, and Ed Davis, credited the speedy response of an eyewitness on the street, who called 911 twice at the time of the abduction, then retrieved Freeland-Gaither's cellphone and glasses from the street where they had fallen. Though the cellphone was locked, Freeland-Gaither's boyfriend called, and police were able to quickly notify her family members and tell them to mobilize with a social-media campaign.

With all the crimes he had committed, and already being wanted by the police in the Oct. 1 attack, he really acted like he had nothing to lose when he kidnapped Carlesha, used her ATM card and had his mug caught on several cameras. That smirk he had in the ATM picture says it all, he didn't care nor did it seem he was worried about being caught. *smh*

He wasn't worried because he and all of the other criminals out there know that some lazy irresponsible DA or judge will let him go or plead down to littering or jay walking if he gets caught.

Look at all of the women he has assaulted so far. How many more are there that no one knows about? How many reported him and got threatened with being arrested too? Because if a man beats you and you defend yourself thats what they do.

He was in prison once and they let him out then he almost killed that 16 year old in October, they got his DNA and still he was walking around free to choose his next victim.

He will get a lawyer for free who will holler and whine that this poor man was targeted, set up, discriminated against and beaten by police. Even if he gets convicted of whatever lesser charge they decide to give him, he will be let out early to do it all over again.

This guy is just one of the many who will never stop until he is locked in a cell alone for the rest of his life. If they let him out when he is 80, he'll do it again as soon as he finds a victim physically smaller and weaker than he is.

MOO

So he made that post on the same day he kidnapped and tortured the 16 year old who he almost killed?

Oct. 1, a 16-year-old girl went missing. She was found two days later, naked, bleeding and burned. She smelled of bleach and gasoline.

Wonder if he knew... I would think so. Either way, criminals are so stupid and should know they will always got caught.

"They began tracking his gray Ford Taurus through a GPS device that had been placed inside the vehicle by the car dealership where the car was purchased, detectives said. It was installed because Barnes had poor credit, officials said.

I think a slightly clearer picture of how the ID and capture went down:
Barnes' arrest was the result of determined police work, a family's dedication to finding a daughter, and sheer luck, including a credit report so bad it led a car salesman to put a GPS device in Barnes' Ford in case it had to be repossessed.

That device became critical Wednesday afternoon when law enforcement officials near Richmond, Va., recognized Barnes from news reports as the man they were looking for in an unrelated case, in which Barnes allegedly assaulted and poured bleach on a young girl. On Tuesday, the FBI put out a wanted poster with Barnes' photo for that attack.

After conferring with law enforcement officials in Philadelphia and agreeing they were looking for the same man, investigators used the GPS device to track Barnes to a parking lot in Jessup.

Why were they waiting on DNA? Couldnt the girl identify him and tell police happened? They could wait on DNA with him behind bars.
Hmm must be missing something and more to this story cause it don't make sense to me at all. I guess I now want to know if someone dropped the ball or what. Why wasn't this guy behind bars?

I thought the first I heard of the attempted murder / explosives charges, etc. said he had an ' outstanding warrant' for the charges. That makes me think he was never arrested for them even though they knew he was their man because they could not find him . By the time they did find him, he had done a ton more crimes. He was probably laying pretty low the last month trying to stay out of sight of LE ** speculative**

ETA sounds more like they were not sure until they got the dna back. Thankfully he had enough priors to match it up asap.

This may be a long shot and most likely not related but I do want to post this case (link below). No progress seems to have been made, very little media coverage and just very little effort in general. The abduction happened in July and about an hour away from Carlesha - in Delaware. The level of effort put forth by Philly/MD LE is leaps and bounds beyond what happened when this case first broke. The case stuck in mind because similar to Carlesha - the woman was abducted right off the street (in front of her own home)....and very brazenly. She worked at a hospital as well. There are also differences which probably indicate the abductor is not DB as I know the recent victims of DB have been younger/smaller in stature. The abductor in this case used victim's car not his own - and it (and the victim) have never been found. When I read that DB showed the 16-year old pictures of other victims - I thought of Nefertiri's case. And again, just posting it "just in case":

I've still got several pages to catch up on, but of course I had to post first. :D I was overjoyed on the bus to work this morning to read a link on Facebook saying she had been found safe. I really didn't expect a good outcome. It's great to be wrong!

The perp sounds like a real piece of work. I bet he didn't take into account what a fighter Carlesha is.

Exactly what I thought, he was never arrested. It took until 10/28 to get the DNA results so I think although he was the suspect, they didn't have the evidence they wanted until then. They waited, and it looks like as soon as they figured out this was the same guy that was being sought for the Philly abdusction, that is when the charges got filed. (jmo)

Just catching up.

Are any of these crimes going to get a conviction that will keep him in jail this time?

He was in prison in Philadelphia for 8 years on an 8-10 sentence. Only released in the end of 2013.
Kidnapping as a federal offense will get him life, pretty sure. I don't think he has avoided prison for multiple offenses, I think the VA case would have gotten him put away in time.

So much to be thankful for in the case! Imagine where we would be if we didn't have the films of her being abducted? Having those helped LE focus on the real perp and not having to go down rabbit trails. Do we know if Carlesha's boyfriend has been at any of the pressers? It was just a matter of time before this guy was arrested. Personally I think the dna in the items found on the Maryland property were the match they needed to know exactly who he is and his connection to the 16 year old. The stars lined up for Carlesha! I pray for a speedy recovery for her and the 16 year old. The streets are safer today!

A lot of people were aware of Barnes' past crimes. I'm wondering if anyone spoke to investigators about this.
"Take a look at m my son/nephew/cousin/parolee, he was accused of a very similar crime."

The videos were shown widely, somebody had to be thinking, that may be Delvin, he drives a car like that too. A random lady picking up litter from her yard made a connection with the contents, who actually knew the guy & had suspicions?

Is there really that big a fear of snitching?

  • #178
All his talk about snitching makes me wonder if he didn't actually brag about his crimes to his friends and follow it up with ' 'if you tell anyone, i 'll kill you ''. Maybe they believed him or maybe they did not. But when they saw the video, they knew . Just thinking out loud.

I believe they did.

I saw an interview this morning on the news with his uncle, who said it was sad that he had a family member like that, but he wasn't surprised it was him. I'm not sure if he actually had called in a tip or not, but I do think some family members did.

It was someone in DB's family who called in the tip about the car, which led to LE being able to track the GPS. Link upthread.
