I agree with all of you who say that just because she didnt' know him, that doesn't mean it was random. I do think she was a specific target. Looking at the video, if it weren't her who he was after, what was he going to do? Pace around the intersection until a lone woman happened to pass by? It was just too perfectly timed imo. Do we know if she routinely took this same path, same time? I gathered that she did since they had worked out a plan for her to call the bf to meet her and walk with her. Which didn't happen this time, for whatever reason. (She was attacked before making that call?) But that was the plan IIRC.

I think he passed her on Greene, walking home from the bus she'd just gotten off (either he was behind the bus and observed her exiting it or came upon her). Noticed she was walking in the direction of Coulter, thought she'd make a good target, so he'd decide to try to get her. Went up to Coulter, turned, was lucky to find a parking spot, then we all know what he did when she arrived at that intersection. I think it is entirely possible he spent that entire afternoon/evening looking for someone to kidnap. Who knows how many unsuccessful attempts he made before that (I don't mean that he physically grabbed anyone and they got away, but maybe the timing wasn't right, he didn't see the right kind of target he was looking for, etc.).

Crawley said police are concerned that the attacks may be part of a larger pattern.

“We’re thinking that there may be multiple victims out there," Crawley told The Times. "He did intimidate our victim and showed her photos of girls he claimed he did this to before, and we’re just hoping if there are other victims out there, they will come forward.”

And isn't this a weird twist: Barnes and Capt. Jayson Crawley of the Charles City County Sheriff's Office in Virginia went to school together. From above article:

Barnes is originally from Philadelphia and moved to Virginia at a young age, according to Crawley, who said he’d attended high school with the suspect.

“In school, I remember him being a normal quiet guy, nothing out of the ordinary attracting any attention to him," Crawley said. "Just a quiet, reserved guy.”

I've mentioned the same thing. It does seem like certain areas have "clusters" of violent crime for years at a time far out of proportion to the population in the area, and this part of Virginia seems to be one of them.

Don't any of you take this wrong way, but I hope between DB and Jesse Matthew a few of these cases get solved....

Since his father is a pastor, that quote doesn't surprise me, and I don't think it's mean to be offensive. Many Christians believe that we must forgive in order to be forgiven. Meaning we must forgive anyone that's hurt us in order for God to forgive our own sins. While the statement wasn't really appropriate right now, I would imagine his family is in a bit of a shock as well.

I could suspect a family member of something, or know they aren't doing things right, but if they were arrested, or actually caught on film committing a crime, it would still upset me. Because especially with your kids, you love them. And even if you've done everything to try to help them, and they continue down the wrong path, you're likely to still love them. Goes to the hate the sin but not the sinner. As my Mom would say, I love you, but I don't like what you're doing, and won't condone it.

Thank u for this post. I was trying to think of a way to explain the father's comments without seeming insensitive. You did a very good job.

Why was this vicious sadistic sexual predator not being monitored, watched so-to-speak (not arrested) by VA LE and/or FBI from October 28 forward?

Yes! And he drove from Richmond which is why I think that he targeted her (it's about a 3 hour drive!) The connection could have been either JM's connections with other Nursing Assistants (who may have known Carlesha) or , another thought.....she had just moved in with her boyfriend two months prior to the abduction. Did he mention something to someone about Carlesha moving in and their routine at night when she got off of the bus? Did he mention something like "oh she has a great job and saves all of her money". Just speculating because , since she had only lived there for two months, if she was targeted by DB, it would have to have been via information from someone that knew her. JMO!

If Carlesha was on that bus she got off before it slows at the corner because if you watch the bus doors stay closed. I think he spotted her on the sidewalk and decided to take the opportunity to do what he was out looking to do that night. She was walking in the right direction for him to pop around that corner ahead of her and grab her. I think he mistimed it and originally had plans to cut through the woodsy area next to the sidewalk and grab her in a more private area, but she got further than he expected so he was forced to make contact then drag her through the lighted area. The "handshake" video shows to me he's in full blown predator mode and past any rational thought process. He hardly looks human in it IMO.

I don't see the plans to call her BF as indicating anything other than simply a safe plan. My husband and I have had plans like this for years.

This is where my mind went when you were talking about connections, but I thought it was simply because I've been following that case. I think these types aren't as rare as we'd like to believe so it's probably a stretch but you just never know!

He was only recently identified by DNA (Oct 28) as the perp in that case. The victim did not know him. They had a warrant out for him and were looking for him when this crime happened.

No way, he was on a mission. What remains to be seen is how LONG he was on the mission. At the party? At the bus stop where she got on? Weeks or months before?

There was no hesitation in his gait from the minute he steps out of the car. He doesn't sit and wait for a target, and she was around the corner when he started walking towards her.

I think, he was on the prowl and seeing Carlesha was a moment of opportunity. A young woman, walking at night on a really vacant street, no traffic, just a bus coming through an intersection.

He is driving and see's her. It looked to me he had a piece of paper, Maybe asking her, do you know where this address is ( just hypothizing ) and got close enough to grab her.

He's done this before, he has it down pat....

He didn't realize, even in the city of Brotherly Love, People will get involved and the camera's were rolling.

Thank God for the 911 calls, the camera's and the search.

That poor girl in VA has probably been terrified this whole month, knowing he was on the loose. I was just thinking about all the cases he may have been involved in and a trail of terrified victims thinking he may come back around who are now all relieved.
