PA PA - Cherrie Mahan, 8, Cabot, 22 Feb 1985

Am I understanding this right? She claimed on social media to be said person? Is it possible she did so for the attention online, not expecting LE to be involved? Didn't expect it to gain public traction, just attention in her small orb?
I am shocked the story even went nationwide with her claims. I believe it might have been for attention.

State police: Fingerprints of female caller indicate she is not Cherrie Mahan

Pennsylvania State Police announced Thursday, June 6 that an initial review of fingerprints linked to the name of a female caller claiming to be Cherrie Mahan indicate she is not the missing girl who disappeared in Winfield Township in 1985 when she was 8 years old.
The department shared that it is investigating a recent online post and voicemail left with state police in which a female caller claims she is Cherrie Mahan. Since her initial voicemail and post, the caller has not contacted law enforcement, and could not be reached at the phone number and address she provided, nor has law enforcement had in-person contact with her, according to state police.
The woman’s claim will be investigated if she makes herself available to any law enforcement agency, state police shared in a news release.

Nancy Grace released a podcast about the Cherrie's disappearance and the women who claimed to be Cherrie.

Why isn't PSP following up with the most likely suspects? Anyone that they have had suspicions of, they should be sending Cadaver dogs or ground penetrating radar on properties that are linked to the suspects or anything that looks suspicious in the area. They need someone that is motivated and is willing to do that. I know all these things cost money, but if they really would like to solve this, they need to be doing more.

Either that or they have a prime suspect. And they are waiting for them to slip up. But judging by newspaper articles and quotes, I believe PSP is still where they were back in 1985 with no progress.

It's like they have given up and are waiting for a death bed confession.

As for the woman thought she was Cherrie . It might be a person also who was adopted . sold to another family. shipped from family members to family member or friends or adopted and though she was her. That happens. People dont always like to tell the truth t kids when they grow up out of fear.

Good Evening,

I joined this site to relay the following information. I know the van - I saw it for many, many years. I reported this to the Pennsylvania State Police via phone and I never heard back from them - what a waste of time. I know the neighborhood where the van resided; if it were registered, it would be easy to find out whos it is.

From what little I have gathered, I can't tell from this site if anyone aggressively pursues these kinds of leads but I have contacted some agencies and I have not heard back from a one.

The van I saw was a late 70's early 80's light blue-grey Dodge or Chevy (possibly with a custom bubble window in the rear) painted with a skier in bright red with dark sunglesses (with something or other that obscured the face) in a mountain scene painted on the passenger side; I'm not sure about the driver side. I saw this van pass by my house every work day as I was waiting for the school bus while I atteded middle school (between1984-1987) - When I went to another school, I no longer waited for the bus and never noticed the van thereafter. I thought I saw the van in the area years later, but it had been primered and not painted. The van would travel westbound on Green Ave. Poydras, LA and turn right towards New Orleans as if going to work. Anyone doing a Google search of this area will notice the neighborhood to the east is not big at all.

I have found sketches of the van online and the similarities are almost dead on with the exception that the skier was further to the back and was not painted on the door - and I remember the van having a spare tire cover in the back.

I found out about the Cherie Mahan case by chance on CNN a few months ago.

I am very dissapointed that PSP never called me back so I am trying to relay this information to any interested party.

Please feel free to contact me with any questions,

Flying K
Did you try calling them again?

I am a close friend of Janice McKinney. We created a Facebook page called Find Cherrie Mahan. We will be holding an event on February 22nd to go over what was missed. Someone knows something. After reading over all 38 pages of this chat.. I will say; I believe we will get answers this year.

I may attend the event on the 22nd. I didn't know Cherrie or her family, but her case has haunted me since I was a little girl and saw it on the news.(I am a year older than Cherrie) I am really hoping that Janice will finally have answers this year, 40 years is too long not to know what happened.

To know Janice, is to love her. All are welcomed at the event. Someone knows something. What are your thoughts on the different theories regarding Cherries disappearance? While her biological father is alive, I believe the neighbors were overlooked.

I honestly don't know. Has her bio dad been thoroughly been investigated?
I live in Westmoreland County (about an hour away from Cornplanter Rd) - I was 9 at the time of Cherrie's My classmate's grandfather had a van with a skier painted on it. He lived a few blocks away from me, I did some research, and he died in the early 2000's. I did submit the tip (with his name to the PA State Police years ago) I remember I kept telling my parents about that van I would see when I was walking home from my bus stop - I really don't think he was the kidnapper, but at 9, I was freaked out.

Do you know if the neighbors were ever interviewed? And I wonder who in the heck was looking in her windows?

The father and uncle of the neighbors were interviewed. The father is now dead but I believe it could have to do with the son who is on Megan’s Law.

The biological father was not looking into as much as he should’ve been either in my
opinion.
