That's a long ways to travel by foot. They're saying he even planned his route of escape.

Bounty hunters are coming in, wanting to help but the police spokesman told the press that they would not use bounty hunters because they don't have the same authority as LE; they can only apprehend someone for jumping bail.

I guess my question was answered as I re-play the press conference. LE believes that Frein abandoning weapons is a sign they are pushing him hard.
