SOLVED PA - Danelo Souza Cavalcante, 34, escapes prison, Chester Co., 31 Aug 2023 *armed with rifle, extremely dangerous* *Captured* #2

I am puzzled by where the blood on his face shown in this image came from, unless the K9 who initially got him bit him on the head, or law enforcement were none too gentle taking him into custody. Or maybe this is, as someone else suggested, photoshopped?
Head wounds, even small ones, can bleed quite a bit even if they're not deep cuts.

K9 subdued escapee

Cavalcante resisted law enforcement and tried to escape by crawling, while armed with a rifle, under a large amount of under brush. Eventually, members of U.S. Customs and Border Protection released a police dog that finally subdued Cavalcante. He suffered a bite wound in the capture, Bivens said.

“Cavalcante did not know he was being surrounded,” Biven said
Good for the K9 !
They're trained to grab and hold if the perp starts to resist/kick them or if the criminal flees, I believe ?
Not feeling sorry for Cavalcante.
The poor woman who was stabbed suffered far worse !
Omo.

Some K9's have been shot by the perp.
So glad this didn't happen and neither LE nor civilian was harmed.

Great news today !!!!!!

I've been impressed by the persistence and the dedication that all of the LE.

Also with the plethora of ancillary LE that they used: ATF, DEA, DHS, and others I don't even know about.

Last night was watching one of the few live streamers on and the cold, rainy conditions full of lightning made for a very dramatic and haunting scene. I kept thinking about how hard it was, even armed and protected as much as possible, it must be for individual officers crawling through deep brush and trees, completely sodden, intense in the pitch dark trying to find this dirtbag.

I'd be one endorsing sending DC to a Maximum Men's prison and not dinking around with the less-than-secure Chester Prison from which he escaped. He needs to be put in a cold cell and forgotten.

I couldn't listen to the PC with the Governor all over himself.

Did they specify that the rifle was recovered?

Unbelievable. Cavalcante's mother blames his ex-girlfriend for "leaving him no choice" except to murder her because she was going to go to the police about the man DC murdered in Brazil (whom DC's mother claims had threatened to murder DC first).

Of course he had a choice. Instead of murdering his ex-girlfriend, he could have fled at that time and likely would have had a much greater chance of doing it successfully. Or, if there is truth in the claim that the man in Brazil threatened to kill DC first, then DC potentially had a self-defense claim, so he could face the charge with that defense.

That he chose to kill his ex-girlfriend so viciously rather than fleeing likely indicates that he kills impulsively and with little justification, so it is likely that is what he did in Brazil as well (regardless what he told his mother).

I know this is her son and she loves him, but her son had a choice to not murder his ex and he had the option to not murder her in front of her kids. Maybe translation has it somewhat off from what her intent was, but even if he was threatened or felt threatened by the ex, he didn't have to stab her THAT many times. He had so many options and he chose to kill her in front of her children.

It was a horrendous murder. And that he killed his ex-girlfriend so viciously in front of her children was an implicit threat to them to keep their own mouths shut about his crimes.

Well and especially because Brazil is not the best place as far as crime goes and I doubt they would even try to bring him back to the country if she did turn him in. My husband went there on a mission trip many years ago and they were instructed to not go to certain areas and were told police won't even go in some areas because of the gangs that control things there.. very corrupt is what he was told. So do they even really care to bring back someone? I could even believe that the murder in Brazil was actually out of fear and because he "had to", but I'll never believe murdering a mother in front of her children the way he did was anything other than him showing his true nature. It takes a very twisted person to do that.

Learning now that Cavalcante’s mother is defending him, I hope someone in LE knows Portuguese. We were told her voice was recorded telling her son to turn himself in, but now for all we know she may have been saying “go to your sister’s house.”

Just speculating.

I'm glad DHS is going to deport her back to Brazil when LE gets done with her.

I'd be very suspicious that she was trying to aid an abet him.

Capture was conducted by Customs and Border Patrol tactical team and SERT (Special Emergency Response Team) from PSP.

Please forgive my ignorance:

What expertise would Customs & Border Patrol tactical team have in apprehending a little guy hidden in a woodpile?

The title on DM's home page reads, "Hunted like an animal"

LE aren't the 'animal', here, main stream media !

Bloodied killer Danelo Cavalcante was sniffed out by K-9s while lying underneath a pile of leaves and wood as cops surrounded him: Officers posed and paraded him for a photo like a trophy after his capture

Cavalcante was bitten and treated for the injury at the scene, Bivens said.

When asked about officials taken photos with the convict, Bevins said: 'Those men and women worked amazingly hard through some very trying circumstances... I'm not bothered at all by the fact they took a photo with him.'

Oh, come on.<modsnip> If there had been no photo at all, people might be asking questions.

Eta : Could have just taken a pic of DC alone, even though being held by his arms ?

The public needed to see he was in custody.
Of course he'll have his dog bite treated.

I doubt anyone would even want to see what his ex girlfriend looked like after he was finished with her.
Pretty sure she was in a far worse condition than he is, poor lady !
The memories of the brutal attack will hopefully fade a bit for the four year old child, but for the seven year old the sights and sounds will last for the rest of the child's life.
They have no one to call 'mom' anymore.
How revolting of DC's mother to defend his actions.

I'm on the fence about this murderer going out in a hail of bullets; but at the end of the day it's fine w/me that he'll likely spend the rest of his days in a cell --- seeing as how he doesn't like being locked up !
Agreed with above posts that IF he'd just walked away from his girlfriend he may still be free.
Considering what he's capable of, it's better that this is the outcome.

Omo.

Rest in eternal peace to the man in Brazil and the ex girlfriend !

So glad that he has been captured!
I got up last night about 4am to get something to drink and decided to checked to see how the search was going. I heard about the heat signature and it seemed they were really close to getting him. So I watched a live stream for about an hour and a half. Heard them clear a house but there was very little scanner traffic.
Finally a retired police officer commented that in his experience LE knew where he was but was waiting for daylight to go get him. I felt confident then that they had him, but I needed to get back to bed.

Yeah. I just don’t like the optics either.
I understand what you're saying.
It was a cluster from the get go.
Starting with the prison escape.
Like I referenced in my previous comment, I don't think LE are the problem.
But, unfortunate optics as in too self-congratulatory ?
The last thing anyone wants is to elicit any sympathy for the devil, so to speak; aka bad optics.
I.e., this could have been ended sooner and DC apprehended faster ?

Omo.

The K9 is the main hero here !

I don't think the issue is with them taking a picture to prove they have the guy, more so posing him in the middle of a group of 50 guys like they won the Super Bowl. JMO
