A quick note about dogs...not every dog, pit or not, will protect their owner. I happen to have a couple of really big dogs, and it's their presence alone which I rely on to help keep me safe. Finn's not grown yet, but even at 5 months he's intimidating. Grace is grown, and she can really put fear into someone. Romi just watches, LOL. I have no doubt Grace would easily overpower someone, if she chose to fight. But she may not...she relies on size to protect me...stands between me and whatever she thinks is a problem. And during a recent assault at the local park, she remained in a down/stay while I fought. She may have come to my aid if I'd've asked...maybe that's what happened to the Dr's pit? Would help if asked, but wasn't asked...so didn't.

I can completely understand if the dog didn't attack or bite, even if it wasn't penned. Some dogs are not protective; it's not in their nature.

The reports say the killer's family had an aggressive boxer that had to be shot by the cops. In my experience, dogs are way less likely to be aggressive with people who are used to large, dominant dogs than nervous with them.

But I think the first thing he said to Melissa probably was, "Can you lock your dog up, Ma'am?"

Also, I have found "Schmidt' names associated with Smith. And people from NJ. I'm hunting about for any other areas, other crimes. I do NOT think this was his first, at all!

And a prescription medication addiction might explain why she was his target, too.. maybe. And she didn't have any. I can see THAT being something he would argue about.

No way is he telling the truth in those statements made in his confession, I am taking it all as one big pack of lies - except the part where he kills her.

Whatever the diminutive doctor said to him, this murdering lunatic likely took as an insult, whether the insult was only an imagined or perceived slight due to his own projections and warped life views.

Some people are prone towards misunderstanding others because of their own preconceived notions about who the other person is, and their own stations in life. Some people go around with huge chips of their shoulders. They feel entitled and walk about the world with anger and hate. I think this violent psychopath already had tremendous insecurities and self-esteem issues.

I would think that his living in a household full of women in a home he does not own but rather is merely an at-will tenant of his gf and her mom's home, that he felt extremely emasculated. He likely butt heads with the women quite often over who's the boss and master of their domain. And obviously the women would win out because it was their home that he had moved into. So when he saw this doctor living in her own house with her dog, he likely hated her on sight, his jealousy, anger, and machismo attitudes raging.

Then when she was giving him instructions about how to do his job (maybe she pointed out where she thought he should spray as that's where she saw the rat), his pent-up anger and rage over his own living situation and powerlessness towards the women in his life, likely caused him to flip. So he took out his rage and misogynist hatred on poor Melissa.

But I also think the murder was premeditated. Why would an exterminator have masking tape and rope, accelerant, and a lighter? Also, he stalked her for many blocks. Why would an exterminator stalk a complete stranger on the street? I think he must have done some google search on her before he met her on Monday. He knew who she was and how she looked. Otherwise, he would have just been stalking a random woman, not the very client whose home he was scheduled to perform extermination service.

Regardless, I hope he gets his just deserts -- exterminated.

Peoplefinders gave more information. Intelius not as much. It looks like he also used a different initial.

There's FB pages for our local news where people are posting. The cousin gave an interview with Deanna Durante so that may be interesting.

Helpful though is that some of those towns coming up are basically in one spot. Example Bristol and Levittown are like neighbors. I have to look again what other ones come up besides Marcus Hook. I think Darby and again they're near eachother.

I believe I know the name you mean that's "unusual". If so that's how I traced to the fire company.

Vigil held for Center City doctor, suspect appears before judge

"Just after 8:30 p.m. Thursday, 36-year-old Jason Smith appeared before a magistrate at the Criminal Justice Center wearing a grey Yankees hoodie.

Across town, Melissa Ketunuti's friends and coworkers paid tribute to her in an emotional vigil.

I read a similar rope around Melissa's neck was found in Jason Smith's home. I'll try to look for that news article again.

"Philadelphia police officials, at a news conference Thursday, said an explosive argument between Smith and Melissa Ketunuti apparently triggered a murderous rage.

Police said Smith told them that the brutal assault occurred during an argument over his services with Ketunuti, 35, a pediatrician at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. According to investigators, Smith said he knocked her to the floor, bound her hands and feet, and strangled her, and then set her head and chest on fire in an effort to destroy evidence.

Speaking on condition that they not be identified, police investigators said Smith's statement, in which he said he "just snapped," included an admission that he was addicted to prescription painkillers and had a history of drug and alcohol abuse.

Court records show Bristol Township police arrested Smith on Feb. 18, 2004 - his 28th birthday - for allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol and cocaine.

When police encountered him, he was stopped at the scene of an accident on Route 413 just north of Bath Road. His car was severely damaged.

After pleading guilty to three counts of dangerous driving, he was sentenced to one to six months in county prison, ordered to enroll in a substance-abuse treatment program, and assessed $1,808 in court costs and fines.

He served one month in prison and was released, completed the court-ordered treatment program, and agreed to pay his fine at the rate of $50 every two weeks. At that time, he lived on Ritter Avenue in Bristol, and paid $75 a week in child support. Neighbors say he has two children."

Oh I didn't see that. I hope he's in withdrawl locked up. His pupils looked big enough in that mugshot though.

On aside I act like Miss Careful Tough. I had an appointment today so a neighbor stayed with my mom. I was upstairs when she left. We have an iron security door that is always locked. Then an inside door. About 5:30PM we hear the inside wooden door getting a knock. We just looked at eachother. I hobble to the door and ask who it is without looking to see if the inside is locked. I swear they said my brothers name, and open it and in my door is a guy. A kid really in his 20's. I about fainted. I recognized the guy somehow, and he was definately high and whatever he had was good cause the kid had zero pupils.

What do I do? Shooed him. Like with my hand. Like "there there get out my door". He says "Hi we're painting addresses on the curbs". What? In the freezing cold in the dark. I looked nuts I guess so he moved on the step. Same kid that was mowing lawns in the rain in the dark months ago.

I go "You just almost had your head blwon off". My mom would have shot him no question.

One day I am not here they don't even lock the door. Painting addy's in the cold. Right?

Wow. Scary! I once had an A/C repair tech come into my home and he scared the bejeezus out of me. My hubby and kids weren't home so I was all alone by my lonesome. This was before we had a dog even. I had to take this big dude to the downstairs ventilation system room. It wasn't his size that scared me but the fact that he looked like he was on drugs. His eyes were bugged out, I smelled liquor on his breath, and he kept asking invasive personal questions.

I kept my cellphone on hand and had my hubby on speakerphone the whole time this tech was in my house. I also kept telling the tech that my hubby was driving back home and should be home in 5-10 minutes. Finally I rushed the tech out and told him to come back when my hubby returns.

Hubby then came home in half an hour and called the A/C company to send someone else to our house.

Being a woman home alone can be a vulnerable thing! It's best to be careful. From then on, I'd always scheduled home appointments only when hubby was around, or when a male friend or two could drop by. Although we don't own guns, I can see why other people keep them in their homes.
