PA PA - Edna Thorne, 15, Philadelphia, 24 June 1975

I have the impression that the brother-in-law is the culprit but he is a really bad guy he cheated on Edna by buying her that pony maybe he had planned that she would visit him at the stable and they would be alone he would take advantage of her she was a 15 year old girl...abusing of her killing her and making her body disappear... it's something that has no name, hopefully one day they can imprison the dirty garbage of the brother-in-law...
rest in peace edna
The brother-in-law has passed in 2020. According to the obituary upthread he was a fantastic person. Nothing bad about the deceased, but I was kind of off to read this; Frank Was A Truck Driver For A Number Of Refuse Removal Companies In The Area (capitals are in the obituary)

I have some questions about this case.
Was Frank Ryan who gave her a pony?
Was Ryan's stable where Edna was last seen?
If the answers are affirmative, taking into account the abuse/assault allegations... Why on earth LE did not investigate him further? He even had access to a great way to hide a body.
Also, who was the sister Edna had an argument with? Why did they have an argument?

I found an article last night that mentioned that Edna's case was being investigated by a Philadelphia police officer named Virginia Hill. I don't know if she is still on the case. Nothing new in article about Edna though.
I know this is odd to reply to such an old post, however I was taking another look at this case after the recent posting today by Diane Redfern and came across this post about Virginia Hill having been one of the investigating officers in Edna Thorne's disappearance. Sadly and ironically, I found that Virginia Hill became a victim of violence and there is a thread about her here on Websleuths.

I am curious as to why official reports state "non-family abduction" but others here, including at least one here that claims to be related to the family, seem to believe that Edna's brother-in-law, Frank Ryan, may have been involved in her disappearance. I also noticed some older posts from one of Edna's sisters that mentions at least one family member (Frank Ryan?) may have refused to take a polygraph examination.

If Frank was involved, the chances of finding out what happened to Edna and where her remains may be located are likely gone forever and he will never be held accountable. If he wasn't involved, the questions about his involvement will likely continue to shadow his family and it may be impossible to fully clear his name. Although we may never know exactly what was discovered in the investigation or even if all investigative leads were exhausted, this is sad on so many levels - Edna remains missing and likely dead, her family has no "closure" and Frank's family also has no answers.

I would really like to know if there are any family members or friends here that are still able to provide any information that might help close this cold case. This case, and and also Jan Cotta's case, haunt me and are eerily similar - both horse girls last seen at the barn (and if anyone knows horse girls, the barn is where they are happiest and most "at home"), pregnancy (Jan was pregnant and Edna was rumored to be pregnant), both petite girls (Edna 5'1", 105 lbs & Jan 5'4", 125 lbs - while pregnant?), both teens (Edna 15 y/o, Jan 19 y/o) and similar time-frame of disappearance (Edna 6/24/75, Jan 6/26/73).
