PA PA - Edward Paul Adams,9, Lamont, PA, 16 April 1910

In memory of an older and very sad case.

I really do wonder if the two cases were by the same perp. If so, logistically how did he (IMO it was an evil man acting alone) do it?
And was April 16th some kind of significant date for the perp, to do this twice on that one day?

If not the same perp, how did two evildoers happen to strike on the same day? Did they somehow know each other? A mere coincidence seems so unlikely, unless this sort of thing happening was widespread(?) and widely known. All JMO.

Or one, or both, didn't get taken but got lost in the woods or fell.

According to the The Pittsburgh Post, Fri, Apr 22, 1910 Page 9 and other news articles (Sources: Newspapers.com, Ancestry.com), Harry Vier Arrowsmith, age 24, of Warren, Corydon Township, McKean County, Pennsylvania, was named as a possible suspect in the disappearance of 9 year old Edward Paul Adams. (The article mistyped his first name as Henry)

Harry Vier Arrowsmith was born 24 Apr 1885 in Salamanca, Cattaraugus County, New York, to William E. and Margaret J. Arrowsmith. The news article stated that Harry disappeared from his home the same day as Edward and was known to be slightly demented and often wandered away from home.

According to the Corydon Township, Warren County, PA, April 22, 1910 United States Federal Census for Harry, he was living with his parents and was unemployed at the time of the census.

Demented is an adjective describing behavior that is crazy, unhinged, or insane. For Arrowsmith, it appears he was able to stay employed in spite of his mental state. I wonder if he's still considered a suspect or whether he was cleared.

The Forest Republican Wed, Apr 27, 1910 Page 3, "Harry Arrowsmith, a demented young man of Corydon, who disappeared about the same time, has returned home and could give no account of his wanderings." (So, he was missing about 11 days)

According to Harry Arrowsmith's 1918 draft reg. card, he was employed as a warehouse worker at the Smith Horton Coffee Company in Warren, PA., with a mailing address at Haley's Rest., Warren, PA.

His obit on Ancestry shows he moved to Akron, OH in 1919.

The 1922 Akron, OH City Directory shows him working at Enlow Coal Co and living with his widowed mother at 403 Valinda Place, Akron, OH.

The Akron, Ohio, City Directory, 1924, shows him working at Biggs B Co and living with his widowed mother at 385 Valinda Place, Akron, OH.

The Akron, Ohio, City Directory, 1926, shows him working for the City? and living with his brother at 284 Brown St., Akron, OH.

The 1928 Akron City Directory shows him working at Enlow Coal Co and living with his widowed mother at 385 Valinda Place, Akron, OH.

He died 16 Jan 1929 in Akron, OH, at the age of 43, according to Ancestry.com

McKean County Miner (Smethport, Pennsylvania) April 21, 1910.

According to this article, the three other boys that Edward Adams was with; Arthur Mahoney, Arthur Williams and Orville Young, "do not appear to be telling all they know about his (Adams) disappearance."
