Hello Texana,:)
I was thinking of this song while I was wondering what is wrong with this world;
This song makes me cry
Respectfully,
dark_shadows

Thank you! I haven't heard that song in a while--This is definitely a time to sing the blues...I like John Lee Hooker myself.

Is it complete frustration that turns a person postal, or is it a sense of entitlement? As in, I'm entitled to take as many people as I want with me when I go?

My sister and I are both teachers. (I'm only part time now, she is still full time.) One day one of her middle school students was worrying about the lockdown procedures, and my sister went through all the steps, and they said, "But Mrs. R, what if they still get in?" And she said, "Honey, then they have to go through ME."

What kind of sick b@stard takes out little girls? That is the part I do not understand.

It looks l to me like Scandi was just giving information. There was nothing there saying he did it because he was home schooled. There was no reason to take offense at that.

So why even mention it? It doesn't seem pertinent to this story.

everything means something in a case like this....we are all here to help out and be friends....we can agree to disagree but no one should be offened at anything said here as we all want the same outcome...

I have to catch up here.......I had a costume to sew LOL...( No not for me)
I think one of the best sites for your questions would be to go to the one given on here which is:
http://www.holycrosslivonia.org/amish/amishfaq.htm#how
That really explains so, so, much. It is enlightening to just go over things we may have never known, or forgot was still practiced.
The Old Order of Amish link electric use as a connect to the world...rather then an evil wire. They did not want the temptation and deteriation of their church and family. Their bible tells them they are not to conform. (Romans 12:2) and in 1912 leaders agreed to connect would not be in their best interest.
Their internet site is not maintained or created by the Amish but rather by their contacts, neighbors, friends, and heritage. And.........just like us Wsluthers they can talk.
But, for anyone with Amish questions.....that site is good along with one I gave early in the day.
I only hope along with my family that all these special children live to enjoy their world any way they choose. I pray they do.........
PS there is an article about their nonviolent nature at that site, and if in a predicament could they use any violence.

So he was homeschooled? Do you think that contributed to his rampage this morning? We all know that there are plenty of people who have gone through the public school systems who turn out just as evil. As a homeschooling parent, I take offense to the comment about him being homeschooled, like that is the reason he lost his mind!

Okay, now that I got the above off my chest, let me say this...

What happened in Lancaster this morning is beyond tragic. I don't know what is going on this week, but hopefully people will come to their senses soon. Another poster stated, if you want to kill yourself, fine. Go find yourself some place where you won't injury or kill anyone else, and let it rip. Don't take others out with you!

Hi Deespoohbear, Heavens no. When I'm posting I have the news on, and if I hear something that hasn't been written here yet, I include it so we are as well informed as we can be. That info was stated on a news show where they were discussing the case. It is not up to me to evaluate this info, but rather to let posters have the info. They can come to any conclusion they want.

As for me it simply tells me that he missed everything that goes along with learning in school. The friendships, organizing events, working on the school newspaper, decorating for the dance, etc. Certainly nothing bad, like it drove him crazy!

Scandi

ETA: Hey thanks Annie and Indy Gal. I appreciate what you both said and agree as well. And Deespoohbear, you'll get to know me. :blowkiss: Sometimes I might say things a bit roughly if I'm in a hurry, but my heart is good. YaYa

Okay, sorry I got so bothered by the comment. It just seemed like you were pointing out the fact that he was homeschooled, like it is some evil thing. There was a situation here in Indiana in the past year where some young man and his girlfriend ran off and got into some major problems with the law. The one thing the news kept saying over and over was the fact that he was homeschooled. I have met homeschooled kids who are the most well adjusted kids I know, and I have met kids who attend the public schools, and they are social misfits. (Take a look at the killers of the Columbine killing...both of them attended the school there, but they were still social "outcasts").

My heart goes out to the victims of another senseless tragedy here. I imagine the Amish community must be shocked beyond all belief in how their world has been forever changed.

Mennonites can drive cars, Amish don't.

Correct me, anybody, if I'm wrong.

The thought of an Old Order Amish in Cabela's is pretty funny.

The Cabela's catalogue alone overwhelms me!
Well, I just read to confirm......so I don't say something that isn't correct....
Texana....It was stated that the "Old Order...all drive horse and buggy"
So you should be correct.....as long as its the Old Order of Amish

He walked in there planning to execute all the little girls and then kill himself. What a chicken chit excuse for a human being!

Scandi :chicken: chit

Mr. Texana and I were talking about this guy, and we came to the same conclusion. What kind of "man" takes out little girls?

Scandi......I am just having a giggle here.....Seems you and I are getting in trouble lately. Even, if I take something directly from TV it is noted as.....wrong. Or even directly from a well loved book.
And...........You too. LOL
We all know you don't mean anything bad by now.....:)
Just keep smiling and pluggin' along I guess. You usually get a big giggle coming your way.......Sunday- Anyhow.....we know your heart is good.

I can't believe this horrible thing. I feel that very deep sad feeling I had after 911.

Yes Sunday, I have had my share of being in the dog house lately!~ LOL :slap:

I feel so awful for these families tonight. My heart goes out to them all and I'm thankful they have each other.

There was a correction that 9 girls were taken to the hospital, and one of them was dead on arrival. There were 11 girls I think, in all. Three were taken to special hospitals, right? This is just the worst thing I've heard of almost ever. Jessica getting buried alive is right up there too. I still think of her a lot.

I got my B.A. from the University of Florida.
Then I decided to get a Teaching Certification from Goshen College.
Goshen College is a Mennonite college.

I doubt Amish travel much past their own villages and to work.
You were a Leaf?

Also, the Amish do frequently travel. They just hire a driver. They're a lot more worldly than one would think.

So am I. I am a teacher and I have Amish children in my classroom. I wonder how much they will talk about this tomorrow, if at all. I do know that they (the Amish community) will be praying for all involved, as will I. This has really shaken me. I heard a man on ABC say that it was his opinion that this guy picked this school because it was close, had no security and his actions would cause maximum shock value. I agree.
