I'm wondering if these could be the remains of Sister Angela Miller. She's a murder victim of a domestic dispute with her nephew who died in a fire he intentionally set after shooting and killing his mother who is Sister Miller's sister. Her body has never been found although there have been extensive searches around their home. Blood was found in her car that was located near the home. Did he kill Sister Miller, transport her body to this arboretum, drove back home then argued with and killed his mother?

Search for missing nun picks up pace
SCRANTON — The search for a missing nun picked up pace this morning after cellphone data led police and a cadaver dog to a block away from the rubble of her burnt out home on Washburn Street.

Police said the nun’s nephew, Alan Smith, killed his mother, Rosemary Smith, 72, with a shotgun, and then set the 2114-2116 Washburn St. home on fire, killing himself. Sister Angela Miller, I.H.M., who also resided in the home, is missing.
Officials said they believe Miller was killed and moved elsewhere.

Circumstances of Disappearance
Eaton was last seen on May 17, 1975. A sophomore at Penncrest High School, "Whizzie'' stayed at home on Mocassin Lane to sunbathe on the roof outside her bedroom window while while her parents and brother went to play golf at the country club.
When the family returned home about 19.00, they found Wendy's bathing suit on her bed.
Several neighbors last saw her walking to the intersection of Indian Lane and Media Station Road, three blocks from her home in the Indian Trails development, about 15.00. The family suspects she was on her way to Media to buy her brother a birthday gift.
Bloodhounds tracked her movement to the intersection of Indian Lane and Media Station Road, where she was last seen. But no further trace of her was ever found.
Wendy's disappearance coincided with the slayings of several other girls whose remains were found in the Tinicum Marsh area, but no evidence has ever been found that would link Wendy to those victims.
Authorities said that Wendy was a girl very unlikely to have run away on her own.
She planned to attend a singing group rehearsal at their church on the night she vanished. Her relatives stated that Eaton would not have missed the rehearsal.

The sack was located in the rear of the property's Francis Cope House, which serves as the administrative headquarters of the Awbury Arboretum Association.

The Francis Cope House was built in 1854 to serve as a summer home for Cope and several of his family members. Germantown was not incorporated into Philadelphia at the time.

An investigation is underway with North Detectives.

We spoke with the general manager of the Awbury Arboretum Monday afternoon. He said the family that owned Cope House stipulated that it wanted the property left open to the public, which is why there are no gates that close at night. The general manager said he has no plans to shut people out, even after this discovery.

I'll be surprised if this turns out to be a victim who was murdered outside of the Philadelphia area. If a person murders someone in a small town or rural area it doesn't make any sense for the murderer to take the body to a more populated location to bury it where there is greater risk he will be seen or caught on camera. Too risky. The only exception to that IMO would be if the murderer worked at the arboretum or had some kind of connection to it where they felt they would not be seen burying the body. Murderers do tend to choose places they are familiar with to hide a body. But I'm leaning towards this being a victim from Philadelphia. MOO.

I wonder what they mean when they say "sack"? The first thing I think of is a burlap potato sack. Any locals have insight on what else it could be? Would sack be used to describe a plastic bag or a duffel bag?

Doubt it was Charley Ross because had it been his remains that they found it would have been all over the news. I also seem to recall that the sack the remains were found in wasn't the type of sack that had been around in the 1870's.

A landscaper discovered the skull and bones at Awbury Arboretum, a nonprofit botanical garden located in East Germantown, on September 30, 2019.

An Awbury Arboretum groundskeeper made the discovery early Monday morning.
The remains were identified as 22-year-old Rashid Young on May 29 this year using dental records, which officials say led to his murderer being apprehended.

Keshaun Sheffield, 20, was taken into custody Wednesday for Young's death, which has been ruled a homicide.

Officials say Young was stabbed to death in his apartment on August 19, 2019, in Pottstown, put in a trash container, then buried at the arboretum a day later. Sheffield had help digging the hole and burying Young's body, according to officials.

Young and Sheffield were reportedly involved in a romantic relationship, which officials described as "volatile." "
