Former Baltimore archbishop Cardinal Shehan transferred abusive priests in Connecticut, new report says

Former Baltimore archbishop Cardinal Shehan transferred abusive priests in Connecticut, new report says

“The diocese’s practice of a bishop’s reassigning a priest following an abuse accusation began during Bishop Shehan’s tenure," states the Bridgeport report, which was made public Tuesday. "He knew of multiple specific incidents of abuse by then-active priests in the diocese, and assigned the priests to new postings with no discipline, and no warnings to the communities to which the priests were reassigned.”

......

Despicable

Mexican Catholic group says late leader Marcial Maciel abused at least 60 minors

Mexican Catholic group says late leader Marcial Maciel abused at least 60 minors

......

Starting to wonder if pedophilia was the start of the church.

I have issues with all organized religion, due to my own experience as a child. I don't think that the Catholic church is the only religious organization with a problem. Just that their problem was so pervasive.

And their religious beliefs that confession clears away all sins. Next day, good as new. o_O

Though only Catholics, Eastern Orthodox and Anglicans practice confessions, all Christian groups follow the concept that "repentance clears away all sins- next day, good as new". Confession is a form of repentance.

As a side note, the repentance makes one new concept is probably present in all Abrahamic religions. This would include Judaism and Islam.

Australia: Police probe alleged Becciu bribe in Pell trial

Australian police say they are probing an alleged transfer of Vatican funds to aid the accuser of Cardinal George Pell in a sex assault trial. Italian media claimed that the money came from ousted Cardinal Angelo Becciu.

Pell is Becciu's nemesis. Priest's have all this going on?

That's a ton of loot he supposedly transferred. No wonder we had to put our "envelopes" in the collection basket since first grade.

Maryland AG releases church sex abuse report into Archdiocese of Baltimore

The report lists 156 current or former Catholic clergy, seminarians, deacons, members of Catholic religious orders, teachers at Catholic schools, and other employees of the archdiocese known to the attorney general's office to have been the subject of credible allegations of child sexual abuse committed in the Archdiocese of Baltimore or to have relocated to the archdiocese in the wake of child sexual abuse committed in other dioceses. Of the 156 people listed, 42 are still alive, according to the report.

I think the next big question that needs to be asked is whether those number over an 83 year period (cases go back to 1940) are proportionate to other public and private entities of similar size and time period.

At a very rough glance, the number would seem disproportionatly high (2 per year). But, how disproportionate, I have no idea.

For example, over a 7 year period, the nearby public elementary school and middle school have had 2 confirmed cases and 1 possible cases that I know of. Possible case involved "vanished" employee with complaints in many areas- including vocalized interests in pre teen girls' "body changes". I dont know if he was accused of any form of actual abuse.

So, say 2.5 employees / 2 schools / 7 years. To my knowledge, the number of victims was very low as all were quickly terminated. But.... I dont know how quickly they would have been terminated in say, 1985.

In all probability, there have been other cases in the district (3 large high schools and supporting schools). But.... since cases are not exactly publicized, details are hard to find.

Archdiocese of Baltimore files for Chapter 11 bankruptcy amid potential child sex abuse lawsuits

This action comes days before a new Maryland law takes effect that eliminates the statute of limitations for victims of sexual abuse to file lawsuits. It also raises a cap on noneconomic damages to $1.5 million per incident, and it does not cap economic or punitive damages.
