PA - Groom sexually assaulted wife's bridesmaid before wedding 6 Oct 2019

  • #21
I just want to say that I’m really proud of the bridesmaid for reporting this and filing charges.

We know who the victim here is, obviously. And thank God, she reported the rape. Now, I do feel really sorry for the bride too. This is just insane. Probably not his first time raping someone.

He bit her during the assault:

“Carney's then-fiancee told him to help the victim out of the raft. The woman told police she remembered being led away from the water and waking up in the men's locker room to find Carney biting her breast and forcefully grabbing her.”

“Suddenly, Carney pulled the woman into the men’s locker room. Then, police say, the groom led the woman to the showers, where he forcibly grabbed her, bit her and removed her bikini bottoms.”

Snip

“The victim told police she woke up briefly on the floor of the locker room to a sharp pain as Carney allegedly bit her and pawed at her body. She said she passed out again, only to wake up minutes later to realize her bikini bottoms had been removed and Carney was on top of her.”

Also, from the same article above, it sounds like he initially tried to blame her for initiating the contact until the surveillance footage showed otherwise (moo):

“After police reviewed the video, Carney changed his story, admitting he’d grabbed the woman by the arms and pulled her into the locker room.”

——-

““It was chaos amongst the entire wedding party,” the woman told police, the Morning Call reported.”

I can imagine!

“The 28-year-old was arrested a month later on Oct. 3 and charged with involuntary deviate sexual intercourse of an unconscious person, simple assault and indecent assault, according to court records. He was arraigned Monday in Marshalls Creek and placed on an unsecured $100,000 bail on the condition he does not have any contact with the victim, a court official told NBC News. His attorney, James Swetz, did not immediately return a request for comment.”

That is sick. I'm sorry, but how anyone can think that guy is marriage material is beyond me. To each his own, I guess. MOO

Maybe he lied to her...
Maybe she was in shock...
Maybe she was in denial...

I bet she is having her second thoughts now.

Well, she walked in on it so I don't know how he could lie about it or why she would believe him if he did.

If she immediately started screaming at him and then they proceeded to get into a fight in the parking lot, that doesn't sound like denial to me.

But shock, oh yes, I imagine so! MOO

There's more, though... the then-fiancee, now-wife walked in on them!

The victim said Carney's then-fiancee walked into the locker room a short time later and began screaming at him. The victim told police she was helped out of the locker room by another bridesmaid. Police said that once the victim left the locker room, Carney got into a physical fight with his fiancee outside, according to the complaint.

On the morning of the wedding, Carney texted the victim and asked her to be "as happy as possible" for the bride, according to the complaint. He also asked her to take the morning-after pill to prevent pregnancy. "We never did do it but would you consider taking plan b to make damn certain just in case?," the text read in part, according to the complaint. "There is almost no chance but still. Please tell me yes I’m begging you."

Yeah I think we would all be in shock and perhaps denial. What a really terrible thing to happen to these women. And their families.

As far as him possibly attempting to lie about it or deny it, it seems that dog don’t hunt considering she not only walked in on it, but surveillance shows him forcefully pulling her into the male locker room. Not to mention he asked her to take a “morning after pill”, etc.

So we know he’s a rapist. Does she want to have kids with this man now?

This is just sad on so many levels.

You know earlier I mentioned that I imagine the bridesmaid feels somewhat betrayed that the bride went on with the marriage to someone who assaulted her. Where do the bride’s loyalties and priorities lie? I ask this because something similar happened to me. I was betrayed by one of my “team members” and this person was allowed to remain on our team. This was a slap in the face.

ETA: Him telling her to “put on a good face for the wedding”..the nerve!

Front page headline now on CNN:

Groom sexually assaulted a bridesmaid days before getting married, police say

“The Pennsylvania State Police investigated and filed the charges based on interviews with the victim and the suspect, text messages from Carney and an intercepted phone call between the two.”

Snip

“CNN has called a number connected to Carney but has been unable to speak with him. An attorney for Carney did not immediately respond to a call and an email seeking comment.”

Snip

“She told investigators she woke up as Carney was grabbing her head and body, the affidavit says. She said she blacked out again and woke with her bathing suit bottoms off and her legs pushed back with Carney on top of her, she told investigators.
The bride then entered the locker room and began screaming at him, the affidavit says. He later got into a physical altercation with her in the parking lot, the affidavit says.
That night and the next day was "chaos" among the wedding party, the bridesmaid told police. She said she had little recollection of the incident, but she did not believe Carney's story that she had "followed him" into the locker room, the affidavit says.”

Snip

“Before reaching the doorway, Carney allegedly turns around and then pulls the victim into the locker room, according to the affidavit. About 20 minutes later, Carney's wife enters the room, and Carney exits shortly thereafter.”

"”We never did do it but would you consider taking plan b to make damn certain just in case? There is almost no chance but still. Please tell me yes i'm begging you," he allegedly wrote.”

You know, just in case there was “immaculate conception”...

Disgusting rapist individual. Wedding or no wedding. Bridesmaid or stranger.

I wish none of the women involved here would be judged.
Predators know how to choose victims.

And the bridesmaid is really brave. I hope she will be treated with respect if there is a trial.

Actually, thinking more about this, “attempted” is even too minimal, imo. He bit her like an animal and asked her to take a morning after pill. I can’t recall if a rape kit was done, will need to look back. Whatever the case, I hope he gets more than a slap on the wrist.

I was thinking about the fact hat he took this woman into a shower to commit the act.. what do you think the purpose of that was?? Probably so he clean up any evidence after the assault. I think this guy has done this before.. imo

so did the bridesmaid 'put on a brave face' and attend the wedding?

What does "Predators know how to choose victims" mean?
