A Pennsylvania man concerned when his mother didn’t show up for work Thursday received some bad news when he arrived at his parents’ home, according to reports.

His 63-year-old mother wouldn’t let him inside, and then she told him what happened, PennLive.com reported.

“I hit your father with a baseball bat and he's dead,” she said, according to the report.

A concerned son checking on his parents made the grim discovery that his mother killed his father with a baseball bat, court records show.

Pennsylvania State Police filed a homicide against Deborah Ann Stephens, 63, on Thursday, in the hours following the discovery of her husband James Eugene Stephens' death.

Police said Stephens killed her husband in their home in the 200 block of Middle Street in York Springs.

The couple's son contacted state police around 6:45 a.m. Thursday, saying he'd tried to contact his parents repeatedly since 2 p.m. Wednesday, according to court documents. He said they'd been having marital problems and argued in the past.

According to the report, investigators confirmed that state police had been called to the home twice last month, on Aug. 21 and Aug. 28, on reports of domestic violence. The first incident involved the woman hitting her husband with a TV remote, the report said. Details of the second incident were not available.
