GUILTY PA - Jennifer Daugherty, 30, Held Captive, Tortured To Death, Greensburg, 11 Feb 2010 *appeal 2022 denied*

This is really sad

it says that Jennifer acted and looked younger than her years, so that is why they may have said "teenager" in the beginning?? How awful

what a creepy group of people....if she met them at some "center' or whatever, I guess some of them have mental/emotional problems...but really I say "so what"?? They are dangerous and I hope they lock them up and throw away the key, death penalty works for me also

such a horrible crime...RIP poor Jennifer

The reference to "cult killing" was in one of the videos earlier today...I heard it but don't see that video up now....I'll keep looking.

The reporter didn't really go into detail about it....IIRC, she said something like "police said it was a cult killing" then went on with details about other things.

Same for the reference to "jealousy" being a motive...that's in a video too.

god i wish this had just been a serial killer it would be a lot easier to stomach........
6 twisted people torturing a mentally disabled woman and disgarding her like garbage?
ughhhhhhhhhh

I know. Words fail me at this time. I believe the suspects were DD also, but that surely doesn't excuse their actions. What I don't understand is why? Does anyone know of a motive? What makes 6 DD people attack, torture, humiliate and kill one of their own???:banghead:

Wish, kbl8201, that I did not have to agree with you. Over the past 1 1/2 years the number of times that I would of had to agree with you are, imo, far too many for a sane mind to comprehend.

Did you read Robert's description of himself? He says he is the kindest man around? And his "wife" (and co defendent) is pregnant? So sad for the victim.

imo....If the pregnancy factor is true.....Jennifer is a hero posthumous...

What is the deal with the boyfriend information on her various pages?

I think the edward reference is to twilight. I am not familiar with those movies, so someone educate me.

However, the Bobby references could clearly be the Robert who was arrested.

Does anyone else think maybe this could be the wife's retribution?

This stuff is creepy. And so, so very sad.

Greensburg police Chief Walter "Wally" Lyons said Daugherty has lived at various locations in the Mt. Pleasant and Greensburg areas. He said the chain of events began Monday, when Daugherty traveled to Greensburg by bus from Mt. Pleasant to keep some appointments, then went to the suspects' apartment. Lyons said Daugherty was involved in a relationship with Smyrnes and knew some of the other suspects.

That relationship, which police knew about, along with tips, led them to the North Pennsylvania Avenue residence, authorities said.

Lyons declined to discuss the motive behind the killing.

"I think that's what happened — she was at the wrong place at the wrong time," Lyons said during a news conference.
Article go's on to say she was bound with stolen christmas lights and a stolen trashcan from the neighbors.

It's hard enough to understand how one person can be so cruel, but for six people to all be so cruel and band together to do something like this to another human being? It's beyond all understanding.

Rest in peace, Jennifer Daugherty. I'm so sorry you had to endure this.

the word "Holocaust" comes to mind

Why would the guy leave his truck at a school all night? Hopefully, he's a teacher/coach who couldn't start it so he left it there and got a ride home. Hopefully, he has an airtight alibi or I'm going to be very hinkified.

WELL...he would have had to be insane to put a dead body under his own car :waitasec:

But maybe he is insane and just blocked out like other insane people claim to not remember the chit they pull. :banghead:
Which I do not believe.

I hope we find out what the motive was, what possesses people to do these horrible things to another human being.
They were "F" crazy.
and I don't give a chit if it turns out that they were on drugs,
and out of their mind.:furious:

OMG-this is beyond horrific. Why would anyone treat another human this way?

I agree with songline....all this politically correct junk....hey some people are WHATEVER....and should not be out roaming around where they can hurt other people

at the very least some of these people probably should have been in some supervised group home instead of sharing an apartment together, although they may have been a danger to others in a group home

I also hope we don't have to hear any boo hoo stuff about how they "didn't know what they did" blah blah

I don't see that use of disparaging language - "crazy, bonkers, nutz" - when referring to the mentally challenged is in any way helpful to the discussion of justice for Jennifer Daugherty, who might well, in her life, have suffered from being called these same words.

http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/10045/1035865-59.stm

from from article above talks about the jealousy, and the autopsy. Very disturbing.

In the days before she was held captive and killed, Jennifer Daugherty resisted the sexual advances of a man who now faces homicide and other charges in her death, the man's former roommate said Saturday.

Ms. Daugherty didn't like Ricky Smyrnes, but he would "force her to do things with him," said Robert Cathcart, who on Tuesday moved out of the apartment in Greensburg where investigators believe she was abused and killed.

"He was being a bully toward her," said Mr. Cathcart, 19, who described Ms. Daugherty as his best friend. Mr. Smyrnes wanted to have sex with her, Mr. Cathcart said, but "she wouldn't let it happen."

Another article.

About a week ago, neighbors saw 17-year-old Angela Marinucci strolling down North Pennsylvania Avenue in Greensburg wearing a tiara.

Her companion, 23-year-old Ricky V. Smyrnes, had been accused of beating his mother, his ex-wife and an ex-girlfriend.

The pair lived in a North Pennsylvania apartment with Peggy Miller, 26, a mentally challenged woman who met a man from Michigan with mental health issues on MySpace. Miller, who had lived in homeless shelters in Greensburg and Uniontown, compelled Robert Loren Masters Jr., 36, to move to Greensburg.

Sharing the apartment, which had no furniture, was another couple, 20-year-olds Melvin Knight and Amber C. Meidinger. The six were seen walking to the library, thrift shops, a community center for the mentally ill and the library, all in downtown Greensburg. They slept on the floor and subsisted on welfare checks and disability payments, police said.

You are correct, But it is hard to curb your tongue when evil is in the mix...
And I don't want to hear how they blocked out, or have a disability there for it is forgiven,
or there for they get a slap on the wrist, or that their meds were changed.
Logical Mind did get it right though...they should not be out where they can hurt anyone.
they should be in a home for those who are imbalanced. Clearly one of them had a violent history,
Not so sure about the others.

I think they knew exactly what they did hiding the body, hiding the bloody cloths in the attic. They defiantly knew what they where doing, the spices, detergent, vegtable oil. I hope we dont have to hear that nonsense neither I'm sure we will though.

I guess when a person is killing you it hurts less if you call them "mentally disabled, mentally challenged, mentally ill">?

Sorry I can't see why these people were even out in society..especially "Her companion, 23-year-old Ricky V. Smyrnes, had been accused of beating his mother, his ex-wife and an ex-girlfriend."

Jennifer herself seems to have needed more help/supervision than was given

as I said...I had an uncle like this...and I am alive today and my family lived...he didn't molest me (he did do a couple dangerous things, twirl me around, etc, disrupt family thanksgiving dinner)...but we were not all killed at the Thanksgiving dinner like we see cases here

my grandparents were able to call the "men in the white coats" and take him away...I had the stigma of knowing I had a "crazy" uncle as we called it then...and didn't tell people that yeah he was usually in one of the 2 well known mental hospitals where we lived

he died in one of them...prematurely...chirrosis and heart problems and whatever caused by his erratic lifestyle

but he was not allowed out to harm people..yeah I am sorry for him but happy for me and the rest of my family and anyone else he might have harmed. From what I remember he had gotten worse over the years...more violent...and while they didn't have all these "meds" back then I am sure he would have been like others today and refused to take them

Calling it nice names doesn't change the outcome...maybe we need to get more "proactive" here...stop the tea and sympathy

My other uncle was diabetic in fact...so was my grandmother..if they didn't take their meds they would hurt themselves...these people?? they hurt others

and this group?? IMHO from their past actions many of them shouldn't have been out on the street....mental hospital or jail or prison or prison for the criminally insane

Jennifer probably should have had more protection and supervision herself. Oh my...how mean of me...yeah mean but sensible.
