GUILTY PA - Jessica Padgett, 32, Northampton County, 21 November 2014

One thing that really confuses me is how sloppy he was at the end. He went through all of this meticulous planning; lied about taking his truck in for repairs, dropped his truck off at the garage so he'd have a ride home, planned where he was going to plant Jessica's car nearby, did this horrible deed while her mother was away and he'd gotten her to the house alone. I suspect he was the one that sent the text to her sister as well. Yet, he buries her body right on his own property, the FIRST place the police are going to look, then denies them entry to search, knowing this is putting the nail in the coffin for him (no pun intended). It's like he planned all this out, then panicked when the deed was done and got incredibly, stupidly careless.

I also wonder how his relationship was with Jessica's mother. Was he abusive? Had she been in the process of leaving him? Could this have been a revenge tactic against her mother?

I see in news articles that the usual media parasites are out full force, knocking on the door of Jessica's house, showing up at her work (where there are children, for god's sakes). Can these cockroaches have one iota of human decency and compassion for the family?

I'm not so sure I believe the theory that there was long time, ongoing sexual abuse. I think if there had been, she certainly wouldn't have worked for him, or felt comfortable going to his house alone. I'd think she'd try to put as much distance as possible between herself and him. The next few days should be very interesting, hopefully the necropsy reports are released soon.

^In my earlier post, I speculate that he possibly tied her up when she arrived at the house. Dropped her car then came back and had much, much more time. Otherwise he just didn't have enough time to assault and kill her based on her leaving the daycare at 12:50 and him on video shortly after 1:00.

And what you said makes the most sense. What doesn't make sense to me is that in the PC they mentioned finding blood in her car, and they were very vague about it. I would like to see a transcript of the PC to hear exactly what was said in that regard. The blood part led me to believe that something happened prior, but it could have just been the struggle between Jessica and her stepfather prior to him restraining her.

Well he still could plead "not guilty", even after a confession, though I hope not.

I wonder, if they truly had a good, "normal" relationship...did something go wrong with his brain?? Just wondering...it seems so bizarre.

  • #345
Thats my main reason for thinking he had to be abusing her before because the families relationship did appear normal but yet he one day woke up and decided hey i'm gonna kill my stepdaughter today..that doesnt sound very likely to me that he'd just up and do it for kicks..he had to have a reason behind it..maybe it's sexual abuse or maybe more

It said sexually motivated, but has it said she was sexually assaulted?

In the press conference they made sure to say sexual assault or attempted assault. They said the autopsy would be needed before it could be determined officially.

I don't remember hearing about blood in her car when I was making notes of the PC, but I could have missed it!

Can someone with FB experience take a look at something on Dad's FB for me?

I'm definitely no FB expert, and can't figure this out. Please look at the June 3 & 4, 2012 posts. I don't understand how he has "Married DG June 4, 2012" followed right below that of the picture of drawing a bow and arrow to shoot the deer, followed by the picture of Jessica getting married? How did a new photo (2014) get in the 2012 post? Would he have had to change that photo?

IF he changed the photo to Jessica's, do you think there's some message by showing the bow and arrow getting ready to kill right above the wedding photo? Or am I being completely paranoid (probably).

Police went to the house and were denied entry, they came back to the house with a search warrant.
They had him at hello.

I just can't wrap my head around the fact he placed his truck for an escape... What the heck was he thinking. Laying in wait charge sounds like it could be on the table as well if he requested her to come fax something.

That's not what was said at the 4pm news conference. They said he let them search the home but it was his statements that put him at the top of the list.

They did say the consent search was denied (two days ago). They came back with a warrant yesterday. They questioned him this morning, which is when he made the incriminating statements.

I am sick about this case...and in my gut...I believe this predator will take the secrets to his own dark grave. Jessica knew him well...and he panicked. Now..with the help of a well paid defense attorney...he will find a way to blame our Jessica. And her grieving babies will never be the same. I am so angry tonight. We will never know the truth. "Vengeance is mine says the Lord." Amen

??? He admitted he killed her and he's the one who told police it was a sexual motive. He's apparently talked a bunch.

Has nobody listened to the entire 20+ min news conference with the DA and the state police? They go through all of this.

How many times did they go to the house? I swear I heard them say he allowed them to search or come in. I remember thinking, "Yeah, that's because he had buried her out back behind the shed."

I'm not sure, I know he denied consent before they had a warrant, but I bet once they served the warrant they remained on the scene or at least were back early the next morning and have remained since.

I bet early on, like the first day, he allowed them and then when he realized the police were suspicious of him, he denied entry and they got a warrant. They made a comment to media that he had cooperated (this was early on). And apparently he also "helped with the searches for her." A media person specifically asked that question.

I don't think he'll ever get out of prison, no need to worry about that. He could be eligible for the DP IF they can determine there was sexual assault via the autopsy, as that would be murder committed during a felony, which would make him eligible. Either way, premeditated murder should be able to be proved by the DA.

In my opinion there is much more to this than a random sexual assault gone bad. This was premeditated. Why would one plan to kill?? And your step-daughter! I can only come up with she was a threat to him somehow.

I just keep thinking about this. It's so bizarre! The shot to the back of the head seems like a major power trip. Is it possible he recorded it as some type of snuff film to sell??

She must have been so scared and you know her last thoughts were of her babies. A mother's nightmare, for her children to be motherless.

That poor family.

She may have heard or seen something that he felt threatened by, even if she didn't make any connections.

Or.... he was secretly in love with her and her recent wedding just drove him over the edge.

Or... he's done this before and we are only just now scratching the surface.

Watch a movie called Frozen Ground with Nic Cage. Based on a true story. Some people are just crazy.

I agree but the threat could be as simple as her telling people he came on to her.
