Since the early morning hours of Dec. 3, 40-year-old John Harrison has been a missing person. He was being pursued by police in Kittanning because his headlights were off. When his 2000 Dodge Dakota truck crashed, he jumped out and fled seconds before police arrived at the crash site. Why he fled and refused to stop remains a mystery, and the valuables he left behind deepened the mystery of his disappearance.

“He left his wallet, his phone, his coat, his gloves and hat,” his sister said. “Like, he had no warm winter coat, and it was 30 degrees that night. He left the keys in the truck. That would have been the keys to his home.”

Moments before the crash, one of the front tires on Harrison’s truck blew out when he struck a guard rail, and he was speeding from pursuing police on the rim of his wheel.

Police said besides being a missing person, Harrison is considered a fugitive from justice because of his refusing to stop for police.

How far from the crash site was his body found? Why was he running from the police, did he have warrants? Why was he driving without headlights on, were they not working? So much of this is confusing to me. The only thing that would make a little bit of sense is if he were under the influence of drugs or alcohol... I wonder if the autopsy will be able to determine that after all this time...

Looks like the accident (Kittanning, PA) would be about 48 miles from where the body was found (Blawnox, PA). But both are located along the Allegheny river. Without knowing exactly where the accident was (how close to the river), it's easy to believe his body could have been in the cold water since December, sadly.

There were previous alcohol related crimes in his past, so it's possible that's why he fled to avoid another DUI.

How far do you think he went before he somehow ended up in the river? How far can a body travel in water in that amount of time... I know it depends on water depth and current, etc. 48 miles seems like a long distance. I feel like he must have been running for awhile before he ended up in the river. But maybe not, if he was affected by alcohol or drugs...

I have no idea how fast the river flows. My guess is it would travel a lot more than 48 miles in 4 months. I'd guess the body probably was held by debris part of the time and then rising water levels (it's been a very wet spring) dislodged it. Purely a guess on my part.

Sounds like most of the questions are answered here:
The accident was about 300 feet from the river.
There were struggles with alcohol and the family thinks he was probably drinking that day.
No cause of death determined yet.

Ok so he was on parole and likely drinking because it was the anniversary of his brother's death. It makes more sense now that he ran from the police.

You're right, rivers probably do travel pretty fast and in 4 months a body probably could travel that far and even farther. Upon first reading it, it just seemed like such a far distance. He probably did fall into the river as he was running from the police that night. I wish he could have gotten some help, it's so sad.
