Authorities search for missing man in South Buffalo

Authorities were searching Wednesday for a man reported missing in South Buffalo Township.

The search for Kenneth L. Himes, 70, began around 8 a.m. Himes had been visiting relatives on Codogan Slate Lick Road.

Just before noon, state police called for a helicopter to aid those searching the area on foot, according to Trooper Travis Trimbur.

Family member of his posted on Facebook that there are reports of him being seen at a restaurant near Pittsburgh. Nothing official yet though.

Searchers came up empty at a pond just smaller than a football field that was drained near the Cadogan-Slate Lick Road home were Himes was staying, according to South Buffalo Fire Chief Randy Brozenick.

“It’s frustrating to us that a number of rescue dogs picked up scent and went to the pond,” he said.

State police have a grainy video of a man, who could be Himes, which shows an older man dressed in black, like Himes, walking along Cadogan-Slate Lick Road toward Ford City about 4:15 a.m. Dec. 26 near the ball fields just past The Villa restaurant.

If anyone walks regularly along Cadogan-Slate Lick Road at that time of day, they are asked to call state police in Kittanning at 724-543-2011.

If the video image was of Himes, he was walking toward Ford City, he was not captured on video at the Sheetz at Ford Cliff, a landmark stop for anyone in a car or on foot in the area.

Passavant Memorial Homes, where Himes lived in Pittsburgh, soon will launch a billboard campaign to get the word out that he still is missing.

Himes kept a regular schedule in Pittsburgh.

There was an alleged sighting of him at J & J’s restaurant in Mt. Washington shortly after his disappearance but no other sightings corroborated his presence there.

Report: Reward Offered In Armstrong County Missing Man Case

According to the Trib, Kenneth Himes’ family and the personal care home that was taking care of him, Passavant Memorial Homes, are now offering a $12,000 reward for information leading to his location.

Crews have done grid searches, and dive teams combed through a pond behind Himes’ brother’s home, but he has not turned up.

Himes was on foot and was last seen wearing a black jacket, black cap and white athletic shoes.

Himes is autistic and has early-onset dementia, state police said.

Autistic and dementia... so very sad... or maybe not. Maybe he has a wonderful life, I prefer to think that, and he needs to get back to it. 70 is not old IMO. Where are you?

Reward Increased To $27K For Locating Missing Elderly Man With Dementia

The reward has been increased for the person who finds a local man who has been missing for two months.

According to the Butler Eagle, the board of directors at Passavant Memorial Homes near Pittsburgh where Kenneth Himes lived recently increased the reward to $25,000. Himes’ family is also offering $2,000,
making the total reward $27,000.
